How to make your mom smile

Even the simplest Mother’s Day gifts mean everything to moms

Mother’s Day wasn’t always sentimental — it was originally meant just to give mothers the recognition and honor they deserved.

It has become not only about the sentiment but much more through the decades — especially with moms who are deployed, single working moms, moms raising kids while their spouse is deployed and busy stay-athome moms.

This year, Mother’s Day is being celebrated Saturday, May 9. If you need gift ideas that she’ll love, the Arts & Crafts Center has a lot to offer:

• Order a keepsake photo pillowcase with her favorite family photo or a surprise photo.

• Give her a photo night-light that lights up with dark with a photo of her loved ones.

• Create a photo mug that’s hers alone to use!

• Gather together some mementos and bring them in. The professionals at Arts & Crafts will help you find the best way to preserve her memories in archival-quality mountings, whether in shadow boxes or picture frames.

• Pick out a ceramic vase, lidded box or other items you’d like as gifts and use the ceramic paint-&-go studio to decorate the items before they’re fired in the kiln.

• Bring in a print of baby’s footprints or your child’s painting and have them custom framed.

• Purchase a wine glass, glass stein, decanter or other fancy glassware and bring them in for laser engraving.

• Pick out a clever design and order a glittery vinyl transfer to stick to her car window, mirror or any hard surface.

• Order a personalized tote bag or backpack.

• Bring the kids in to create string art as a gift with instruction from our resident artist.

• Have a photo you bring in magically transferred onto a T-shirt for her.
