Live Longer, Better Being healthy in Fort Worth is a communal effort, and one particular organization is playing a huge part! Blue Zones Project is providing easier ways to be healthy where you live, work, and play through health, wellness, and active living. As a society we are constantly on the go and can often find ourselves in a riptide of stress and fatigue. If you are in need of some self-care, Blue Zones Project, a national well-being improvement initiative that has chosen Fort Worth as one of its target cities, has five suggestions to help you regain and improve wellness: 1. Eat in moderation. Listening to your body’s cues is essential. When you feel 80% full, cease the chewing! Enjoying your meals slowly and more consciously will leave you feeling satisfied both physically and mentally. 2. Wine at Five. As your day comes to an end, relax and enjoy a glass of wine. Studies show that a daily glass of wine can boost your well-being and possibly even add years to your life. Cheers to that! 3. Get your move on! Find ways to be active during your day. Whether it’s taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or going for a walk in the evening,
Blue Zones Project is making healthy choices easier! Check out its complete list of Blue Zones Project Approved™ restaurants, grocery stores, worksites, and schools! https://fortworth.bluezonesproject.com/

you will find yourself feeling healthier. Most importantly, do a physical activity that you enjoy. 4. Establish some quality time with friends and family. Shoulder-to-shoulder (doing activities together) or face-to-face (talking in person) are great ways to connect with others. Building relationships is a great way to create wellness and clarity in your life. 5. Remember to downshift. Schedule some time for yourself. Read a book, go for a walk, or listen to your favorite music. It’s important to recharge and reflect on yourself!

Yoga & What It Does for the Body & Mind & Spirit Yoga is about breath, movement and space. Breath. This is the force of life. Through breath, we find the magic that allows us to exist. Yoga, or specifically asana, which means the physical poses, brings awareness to the breath. It was in my yoga classes that I learned how to calm my breath and bring my heart rate down with my own awareness. This became a remarkably handy tool when I was a runner.
Movement. As you connect pose to pose, you learn to move gracefully and with ease. You celebrate your ability to move. And this is entirely worthwhile as your ability to move is, in fact, worth celebrating. Through personal experience, I became keenly aware of the beauty of our movement. It’s something so many of us take for granted. We tend to wish we were better, different, thinner, stronger, longer, more flexible, younger… we rarely are able to see the remarkable, sheer, righteous gift of being able to swallow and wiggle our fingers and toes. Yoga will bring you into appreciation of your breath and your movement.
Space. Through breath, through movement, you create space. Space in your joints, space in your muscles, space in your ligaments, tendons and fascia. Space even in your organs. And yes, space in your heart. Yogis often speak of clearing away the clutter to get in touch with that which truly matters. The poses, the breath, the movement, they help you create space for love, for peace, and for that which truly matters to you — your happiness. Your happiness matters. One of my teachers offers, the greatest gift we can give this world is the happiest version of ourselves that we can be. I couldn’t agree more.
Namaste, my friends. Namaste. See you on the mat. - Rebecca Butler - Yogi 20
