FORT WORTH ART DEALERS ASSOCIATION

SPRING GALLERY NIGHT

March 23

20 24

MISSION STATEMENT

FWADA is a unique arts organization in a unique American place. Few cities of Fort Worth’s size are privileged to command such a wealth of major art museums, and fewer still have such a vital community spirit. What truly sets Fort Worth apart, however, is the vigorous, longstanding, clearly defined cooperation between the museums, the university art galleries, the non-profit exhibition spaces, and the art dealers, all of which are full working members of FWADA.

To fulfill its stated mission to stimulate interest in the visual arts through educational programs, art scholarships, and art competitions, FWADA organizes, funds, and hosts exhibitions of noteworthy art.

FWADA sponsors the annual Fall Gallery Night and Spring Gallery Night for members and friends. FWADA also sponsors an annual show featuring submitted artworks from Member institutions, the summer Selections exhibition. Keep an eye out for our Gallery Guide! You can find our most recent issue in your FW Weekly newspaper, or pick one up at a Member gallery or museum.

All these attainments have created a stable environment that produces a steady stream of top-notch talent, including major local artists who exhibit their work nationally and internationally. Newcomers are frequently dazzled by the quality of work being created in every medium and style. Their passion reinvigorates Fort Worth patrons who have become habituated to the riches that surround them, reminding them anew that the most authentic cultural connection they can make is the one that affords direct communication with the artists who interpret and illuminate the life experience they share through common background and interests. Although the city is justly recognized for its cosmopolitan worldview, it is the local artists and their devoted collectors who are the lifeblood of the Fort Worth art market.

The members of the Fort Worth Art Dealers Association are pledged to the maintenance of a high standard of ethical conduct and professional integrity; these businesses furnish a model that gallery associations in other cities might do well to emulate. FWADA is to be commended for its important role as a contributor to the cultural and aesthetic richness of Fort Worth.

Caro’s style borders on impressionism, mainly concentrating on landscapes in oil; it’s full of motion and color. Mountains and southwest images capture her fancy. Her color palette is inspired by a trip to Provence in the fall. Caro noted, “it was like Van Gogh had his hand on my shoulder”. She shares her love of color in stirring new work, with new motifs. It is a happy exhibition.

Surrealism and Us: Caribbean and African Diasporic Artists since 1940 is inspired by the history of Surrealism in the Caribbean with connections to notions of the Afrosurreal in the United States. Representing a global perspective, this exhibition is the first intergenerational show dedicated to Caribbean and African diasporic art presented at the Modern.

Inspired by the essay “1943: Surrealism and Us” by Suzanne Césaire, the presentation includes over 80 works from the 1940s to the present day, in a wide range of media such as painting, sculpture, drawing, video, and installation. Centered on the intersection of Caribbean aesthetics, Afrosurrealism, and Afrofuturism, Surrealism and Us explores how the exhibited artists have interpreted a modernist movement. Artworks, framed within a pre-existing history of Black resistance and creativity, illustrate how Caribbean and Black artists reinterpreted the European avant-garde for their own purposes.

THE POOL NEAR SOUTHSIDE ARTS SPACE

1801 8th Ave., Fort Worth, TX 76110 instagram.com/thepoolnearsouthside

GALLERY NIGHT HOURS: 12-9 PM

The Pool Near Southside presents Clotted Cream, an exhibition by Fort Worth-based Red Milk Crone. The exhibition addresses narratives of women’s oppression and repression, and the proliferation of women’s perspectives being disregarded or devalued in educational, medical, and political systems. Red Milk Crone aka Lady Di is a mixed media artist that rebel against traditional methods and styles in effort to confuse the viewer and inviting them fall into her world of works like a Venus fly trap. She started painting and creating as a toddler in her mother’s kitchen with a phonebook and pens while her mother was cooking. As she grew, so did her art studies throughout her school years to college and University. Born and raised in Toronto to a daughter of a jewelry designer and maker, she had to grow in a fast paced and male dominated art world with constant rejection and constant reminders of being a woman. Creating and painting for four decades allows Lady Di to constantly adapt, to change and ignore authority for the “art rules”. “There’s no rules when creating. Art is politics, whether it’s your views or not.” As a practicing artist and illustrator, Lady Di continues to push the dialogue that is often taboo. Mixed inspiration from Leonara Carrington and Francis Bacon all show through her work.
