sessive with documenting life. From saving packaging from my favorite things, journal writing, whining for my first film camera since as long as I can remember and then using it excessively to photograph my toys, pets, friends and later family. Always finding it hard to let go I have felt an immense need to safeguard memories, too aware of the fact that the real things and moments will otherwise be lost.
Taking photos of my own life hardly seemed enough and I have always enjoyed sharing captured moments with friends and family and hardly anything warms my heart more than my frozen fractions of time being favorited and loved by the people present in the photograph.
Not much has changed since my childhood. Even though I no longer develop photographs in the dark room with my Dad, who was a keen photographer and junk collecting enabler, but I do document everything with no lesser intensity. Aware of the time fleeting by so fast and memories fading with the overload of information we all take in these days I am simply petrified of forgetting the simple things in life and how much they matter.
I promised myself this “about me” would be about two sentences as I’m aware how readers just want to skip to the chase but I just can’t help it, I can’t, can’t stop. This is me holding back. And as with taking photos I simply cannot stop and I won’t as long as I will be able. So go ahead, feed the fire – invite me over and let’s make your family’s history more picturesque!

It makes me happy to have such profound technology in hand these days to freeze those precious moments in time. Moments that would otherwise be lost

5 Reasons Why Documentary Photography Matters By Svatka
The images communicate a story
Storytelling is as old as time, with the power of image capture we have the ability to savor the storyline forever. What offers more storytelling than everyday life? I couldn’t agree more with David Du Chemin: “If I could say everything with words, I wouldn’t have picked up a camera.” The photographs are genuine. Why am I passionate about documenting families? The stories that create memories and happen on an everyday basis, those moments are slipping away without any chance. As much as we are aware of the fleeting time and the importance of our most common, yet most intimate times together we do not generally capture those to last.
Creating meaningful keepsakes for future generations
Photography is a powerful way of preserving evidence of life as you know it. Future generations can find themselves fascinated with the way of life back then. It happens in a time and place that is most comfortable and familiar for your family – your home, not in the middle of the autumn meadow waiting for the golden hour, not inside a studio where you are surrounded by umbrellas, lighting equipment and
‘interesting’ backdrops. Your living room, your backyard, your favorite café, those are your backdrops with a meaning. A matching outfit or the studio’s pretty sofa and their vintage rocking horse will tell you and everyone else NOTHING about your way of life.
Your story is worth telling
Documentary images have purpose and meaning. They are uniquely yours. Even if I don’t know your story, you do. You will recognize and appreciate the small moments and details surrounding you on a daily basis and you won’t even realize how much meaning those details have until you look back at the photos. Be it tomorrow or when you share with your grandchildren. The most common parts of your day are those we usually fail to notice yet those are the moments that are so important to us. However routine based your average day is the life still remains unpredictable, children are unpredictable in ways only parents can dare to assume. Capturing your real life pays attention to all the predictable and unpredictable, all the subtleties, without a script.
Get in the picture
You get to look at your life from another perspective and there won’t

be anyone missing in the picture, literally. Everybody’s in, even your dog who never seems to leave your side and especially you, who is usually behind the camera creating images of everybody else. If your family albums lookanything like mine then they consist of motherless memories full of good times between Dad and the kids or the kids alone. Whether you are a Dad or a Mom who always ends up taking the photos, don’t let that always be the case. Get the true story recorded, not just for your kids but for yourself too.
Ordinary parts of your day turned into art
Have you ever turned a favorite snapshot from your phone into a wall-art? Are you often able to or want to display photos of yourself with the family in the same image you took? Are you even a part of family photographs at the best of times? It could be a simple tight hug you share with your little one a dozen times a day documented from above or below, it may be the cheeky look you get from your loved one all the time, the look in your child’s face when he sees you after a nap or the siblings’ mischief when you’re not looking or perhaps the detail of those tiny toes tangled in a blankie that turns into an image you want to place on your wall to admire and treasure.
Day in the Life
Your day, your life, is made up of all the small moments. These moments tell a family’s story and all those precious moments from the bumps, bruises and tea joy. Tell your family’s story.

So tell me... FAQ
How far do you travel? I am currently based in Durango, Colorado. Travel cost up to 30 miles is included in all my session fees. Further distances possible at an extra cost depending on the travel times. All destinations considered. Please contact me for details.
Portraits & group pictures? I understand that group photos are still important for many families and catching a decent candid group shot is a matter of very, very good luck. If you book a full or partial (4 hour) Day in Life session, we can reserve a little bit of time for an organized group photo that will be taken in a relaxed and not strictly posed way. During the full Day in the Life session we can devote up to one hour for family group photo and individual portraits and a brief window of time during the 4 hour session, approximately 15 minutes, for a group photo. I always try to get good candid portraits of all individual family members regardless and I will always try to catch you all together as you gather naturally during your day. Nobody says you can’t have a Christmas card with more of a story should that be your primary focus. We have pets, are you allergic? Nope, no pet allergies. And I love all pets.
Where does the session take place? Wherever you feel at home, wherever you are at home, pretty much anywhere you want but bear in mind that the more familiar the place for your family, the more comfortable and more meaningful the outcome. Which package shall I pick? The longer time I get to spend with your family, the more opportunities, stories and emotions I get to capture. Also the younger members of your family will act more natural and be themselves more with the longer sessions.

Why should I pick you as a photographer?
Not everyone can do what I do. Not every one is willing to do what I do. This is VERY hard to do at home yourself, even if you are good at taking photos. I am passionate about family photography, crazy about documenting and mad about little details. On top of that I’ve worked with kids of all ages for years and they seem to really like me for some reason. And I can stand up really tall and curl up really small. Oh and I am not afraid of pets and dirt. Hmm, what else, I have sense of humor in multiple languages. Aaand I’m kind-hearted, easy going, open minded, opposite of uptight, sarcastic non-smoker. If none of that scares you, you’ve got the right gal.
INFORMATION
How do you pronounce your name?
Don’t worry, you’re not the first person to ask me that. It’s a traditional Czech name that means “Saint”. Essentially, you can pronounce it very simply if you think of it this way: say “vodka” and put an “S” in front of it.
Can I upload my pictures to Facebook or other social media?
Of course! You can share any material I send your way. I only ask that you tag Foteem Photography in your posts. Random Fact A 3-year old boy’s voice is louder than 200 adults in a crowded restaurant.
Will my shy kids be a problem?
Nope. The funny thing is that both animals and kids are strangley attracted to me. Pets are always friendly and the shy kids always come out of their shell when I’m around.
When do I get my pictures? I try to work on the session as quickly as possible. The processing of your session will take no more than 10 days. Any additional products such as photo books or large prints (on request with extra charge) will take longer.
Do I have to order prints from you? No, you can get your images printed wherever you want as long as you purchase the digital prints package. Either way you still have the option of ordering through Foteem and have high quality prints shipped directly from the printer to you.
How do I book? Call me or email me and let me know which kind of family fun are you interested in capturing.
Random Fact
A photo of Machu Picchu was the first archealogy picture ever taken.
What happens after I book a session? After a successful booking (choosing date, time and paying the deposit) I will send you all necessary information and guidance prior to the booking date and answer any questions you may have. We will discuss any concerns you may have over the phone or via email, depending on your preferred way of communication.
I don’t like posing for pictures, do I have to do this?
That is precisely why I do this style of photography. I will not tell you what to do and put you in awkward poses. In fact I won’t direct you at all. And if you don’t want to include the optional family photo during the Day in the Life session, even better.

What to wear?
Do I need to pay in advance?
Wear whatever you want to wear, your regular wear and what you are comfortably in will work just fine. I will provide more guidance in the post booking information pack.
I ask for a 25% down payment on your session fee. The deposit will need to be paid when the contract is signed and guarantees your session date. The remaining 75% of the cost is due on the day of the session. Any further charges do not need to be covered in advance. You can decide about the package you will or will not purchase after the session and pay when you order. I don’t have a family, do you do couples
What to do during the session?
The more routine your day is while I take pictures, the better. There’s no need to plan unusual activities or get stressed with Pinterest ideas on how to present the perfect family. Being yourselves is the best you can do. I will provide guidance and suggestions on the details prior to the session.
too?
I do! While my focus is primarily families, the style of photography I do is great for capturing real and initmate moments between couples as well. I’ve done documentary photography for date nights, special events, and even weddings. You would be suprised how genuine those pictures can be.
Random Fact The word photography comes from the Greek word meaning “drawing with light”.
I like my privacy, do you have a non-disclosure agreement?
How many images will I get?
Random Fact
Do you take photos of weddings?
The amount of images varies greatly on the material you provide me with but I pick the very best of what I have. Please see the session details to see what the minimal amount of final HD images is. The more time I have with your family means greater chances for better quality moments.
Yes, a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) is available. The additional fee for providing NDA is 3 times the regular price of a service/booking.
What is a Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA)?
Celebrities, other high-profile or privacy-conscious clients or individuals in undercover law enforcement often wish to ensure their images and photographs are kept completely confidential, and to ensure they maintain complete control of how those images are published (or essentially not published). In those instances we sign appropriate non-disclosure agreements (NDAs). Foteem will then not display the photos, disclose any names or other information related to the photographed event. Confidentiality completely intact.
There is an average of 300 million photos uploaded to Facebook everyday!
Anything is possible. However, I tend to shy away from the traditional form of wedding photos. Instead you might get some real smiles based on genuine events. The tears from a happy mother, the smiles from the groomsmen and bridesmaids, even the funny uncle doing the chicken dance. Nothing can be more special than your wedding, and the moments you remember are always these things, not the 2 hours of posing in traditional wedding photography.

faq
Can I print my images?
Yes, after you purchase the digital files, I will issue a print release (license to print) form where I sign a permission for you to print all provided images for personal use without any restriction on size or the printing company.
INFORMATION
Can I use the images commercially?
You cannot sell or use the images for commercial purposes as Foteem retains the copyright. What about food? Do I need to feed you? If I am a part of your family for the day I will need to be included in your family meals, restaurant meals, etc. I will share the day with you as and how it comes and of course I cannot run out ‘on a break’ to grab a Subway or a take out. The good news is that I do not require any special diet.
Random Fact I traveled with a friend from my small town in the Czech Republic to the UK when I was 20 to work as an au-pair.
Will you be using the photographs from our session?
The photographer retains the copyright of the images taken, those may be used for commercial purposes. There is a model release in every contract.
Do you have any kids? I do! At the moment I have two little boys who keep me busy. Plus a husband, so I guess you could say I have three kids.
Can we just get the RAW photos and edit them ourselves?
My kid asks a lot of questons, is that a problem?
No. This is not an option under any circumstances. A big part of my work as a photographer is in the editing and processing of the photos. In a way it’s my signature.
Not at all! Did you know that 4 year olds ask an average of 437 questions a day? And I don’t mind any of them.
I would love to meet you but I don’t live in Colorado. What can we do?
Random Fact Children have more taste buds than adults. Maybe that’s why they’re so picky about food?
That’s not a problem. I’m used to talking with people and potenntial clients from further distances. And when we are considering a session I’m well practiced at using tools like Skype in order to communicate ‘face-to-face’. Or we can just chat on the phone if you prefer.
Payment methods/How do I pay? All major credit cards accepted, plus cash or checks. Where are you from? I was born in a small town in the Czech Republic. Growing up my family owned a pottery factory and I remember taking pictures of everything I could find!
Do you like to travel? I love to travel! I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to 20 countries so far. My passport is always ready to go.

INFORMATION
When my wife told me we were going have a photo session at home I was definitely surprised. We have a lot of photographs and a camera on each cell phone. I can surely take my own pictures daily, those were my thoughts. Then the Day in the Life photoshoot came. It was just like any other day plus the fact that Svatka was always somewhere nearby. When I saw the results I was mesmerized. I’ve long forgotten about our day but the pictures brought them all back. There were the small, seemingly unimportant moments. The composition is wonderful and they portray our family perfectly. Anyone can take pictures but not everyone can take GREAT pictures. Also, not only did the photos make us really happy but we’ve been viewing them time and time again. We gave small photo books to the grandparents as gifts and Svatka’s video had an incredible response on our social media.
It was a pleasure to have Svatka in our home to encapsulate this fun, crazy season of life! Her pictures speak for themselves. She is so talented at catching the candid moments; capturing the beauty of daily life honestly and without any intrusion. Her photos are each a work of art! We would recommend Foteem Photography to everyone who wants real photos of your family. Even my husband, who really dreads posed pictures, appreciated Svatka’s unimposing style.
We take family photographs every year to keep record of how much we change. We always take these outside, and change the photographers every year. Still, I always carefully choose the clothes for everyone in the family and I do my hair and makeup because I want to look my best in the pictures. And even though those pictures are very nice, they’re not really true. Our day with Svatka was special and fun. She was there when the kids got up and followed us through the whole busy day. She didn’t intervene in our activities but carefully recorded them. The kids didn’t have to “behave” and smile, I didn’t have to put on tons of make-up and still we got a set of brilliant photographs from one day in our life in 2016.
