An Introduction to Explora Journeys

This is a story that starts in 1940s Sorrento with a Neapolitan ferry captain, Gianluigi Aponte, who, together with his Swiss sweetheart, went on to create MSC, a global shipping operation and the world’s largest privately-owned cruise company. Now this Swiss seafaring family are fulfilling their life-long dream and launching Explora Journeys, an exquisite, modern luxury cruise experience, set to transform ocean travel.

Designed in partnership with the world’s foremost superyacht specialists, the first of six ships in the Explora Journeys fleet, EXPLORA I, sets sail in Summer 2023, and will seamlessly blend elegant Swiss precision with modern European craftsmanship.

Each of the 461 suites, penthouses & residences offer sweeping ocean views from their floor-to-ceiling windows and private sun terraces. The recently revealed design reflects the brand’s philosophy of creating an Ocean State of Mind, thanks to light, colour, space, and privacy with luxurious, serene, and spacious ‘Homes at Sea’ starting from 35 sqm (377 sq ft) in the Ocean Terrace category - some of the largest in the industry.

Elevating the suites, each comprises a walk-in wardrobe with seated vanity area and features a Dyson Supersonic hairdryer, heated floors in the bathrooms, wireless bed-side charging, a personal mini-bar replenished according to preference, espresso machine with bio-degradable pods, a kettle and teapot, and a complimentary personal refillable water bottle for each guest.

Whilst outside of the suites, more than 27,000 sq feet of outdoor space includes three swimming pools and 64 private cabanas; an indoor pool with a retractable glass roof, and 9,700 sq feet for the spa and fitness studios. Sophisticated, varied culinary experiences are offered across 18 venues, including six restaurants, five lounges and in-suite dining, all supported by an industry-leading guest to host ratio of 1.25 to 1, allowing for an intuitive, effortless and culturally intelligent service style.
