Mint, oh yeah that’s fresh BRAND IDENTITY
Universal Music put together a compilation of the year’s best dance tracks and called it Mint. I created a clean and fresh word mark for Mint that reflected the title.

Loaded is a urbanwear fashion store in High street, Auckland. It’s old logo was looking a tad tired on it, so I stripped it down, cleaned the barrels, applied some gun oil and then reasembled it in under 10.2 seconds while sitting cross legged and blindfolded.

“I once met a girl in a bar, she told me she hadn’t seen my type before. I told her that most of it was smaller than 10pt so it wasn’t surprising really.” TYPOGRAPHICAL STYLES
I love working with type, and know enough about typography to realise that it is a discipline of its own that takes years of experience and practice to understand all of it’s subtle nuances. I understand the history of type and respect the early masters that hand drew those classic letter forms.

Yet in saying this, I’m more than happy to hop in ‘boots and all’ and re-cut a headline or title font. Most of the font work in this portfolio has at some point been trimmed, caressed and sculptured into more ascetically pleasing forms and shapes.

Books? I’ve read a few BOOK DESIGN
At Seven I worked on briefs for Penguin and New Holland. The mainly consisted of covers for New Holland, and both internal spreads and covers for Penguin. Last year I received a Highly Commended in the 2003 Montana Book Awards for my work in Ruth Pretty’s cookbooks.
Of all my design work, I love book design the most. I enjoy the challenge of finding a visual style that reflects the books contents and a structural format that allows the reader to enjoy the reading experience, while flowing through the information and images within the book.

In my Element INDUSTRY PUBLICATION
Elements was an industry newsletter called Cater With Confidence that was published quarterly by NestlĂŠ FoodServices. The brief was to tidy it up and
make it look more professional. Over a period of two years the newsletter grew into a slick little Microzine that was eventually rebranded Elements.

Screen of dreams - “build it and they will come” Get online, web and multimedia are still the fastest growing media in the world and e-comerce is changeing the way people do business. If you haven’t got a .com door open to the virtual world you might as well be in Timbuktu. Actually with the right website... you could be in Timbuktu
Anyway here are a few screenshots of sites that I have designed.

The studio experience that I gained informed my work at school and I consequently passed my degree with honors. I then worked full time for Seven until I left at the end of 2003. For the next nine months I freelanced until accepting a full time position at Switch Design for a year. I am currently working as a freelance designer.

Prior to graphic design I spent sixteen years as a professional hairdresser. During this time I ran Salons, trained staff, organised photo shoots and travelled though-out New Zealand giving educational seminars and shows. Although I loved every second of it, after awhile I found that I had reached a point where hair was failing to excite and motivate me, I needed a new challenge and a new career. So I bit the bullet and did a four year design degree at Unitec as well as Axis Awards School. At the complication of the Axis Awards School I received a highly
