CHARITY REALLY DOES START ON THE DOORSTEP You may already be aware but following on from the success of the Foundation of Light and the thousands of lives our sports charity has changed, we’re now in the process of building the Beacon of Light. We can’t wait for people from outside the region to tackle the issues the North East faces – help isn’t coming, so we need to help ourselves. The Beacon of Light will be a motivating place that provides opportunities for young people and their families. It will include four zones designed to deal with issues such as poverty, unemployment, skills shortage and obesity. But we have a shortfall in funds and still need £2m to complete the building. That’s where you come in. STEP THIS WAY AND BE PART OF HISTORY We’re giving local businesses and individuals the opportunity to be part of the actual fabric of our building forever. Our ‘73 Steps’ project is a chance for you to sponsor a step on our feature staircase that runs through the centre of the building. The stairway features 73 steps in recognition of the Club’s famous FA Cup success.
The step will be yours for a lifetime and will show the people of the North East you support the region and want to make a difference to the lives of our locals. As well as great self-promotion and the chance to deliver in terms of your Corporate Social Responsibilities, you’ll get a two-year Corporate Membership (usually £250 +VAT a year) and an exclusive invitation to the exciting pre-opening event. Your name or company logo will be laser-cut into the stainless steel step plate and the etching will be there for 300,000 people to see every year. Each step is £5,000 and when we sell all 73, we’ll raise £365,000 towards the completion of the building. That’s nearly 20% of the total we need to raise.
