Russian Master Makes Four Arts Debut

The Four Arts opens its live performance season by featuring one of the most remarkable pianists of his generation, Daniil Trifonov. The Russian makes his Florida solo recital debut with an allBach program that includes Brahms’ arrangement of Bach’s towering Chaconne for solo violin, the monumental Art of Fugue, and Myra Hess’ transcription of Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring.

The Times of London calls Trifonov “without question the most astounding pianist of our age.” He recently added a Grammy Award to his already considerable string of honors, winning Best Instrumental Solo Album of 2018 with Transcendental, a Liszt collection. Trifonov served as 2019-20 Artist-in-Residence of the New York Philharmonic.

attended Moscow’s Gnessin School of Music, before pursuing piano and composition at the Cleveland Institute of Music. His honors include First Prize in Tel Aviv’s Rubinstein Competition, Third Prize in Warsaw’s Chopin Competition, and First Prize and Grand Prix in Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Competition.

Director Michael Mayer reimagines Verdi’s towering tragedy in Las Vegas in 1960 — an ideal setting for this eternal conflict of depravity and innocence. Tenor Piotr Beczała is the womanizing Duke, with baritone Željko Lučić as his tragic sidekick, Rigoletto.

The Met has cancelled all live performances in their upcoming season due to the global health crisis. Three replacement encore screenings have been added to The Four Arts schedule in lieu of the following live cancellations:
