Message from the Chairman
On behalf of the Kaufman Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Directors I would like to welcome you to our amazing community. I am so proud of this community in which we live and the leadership that continues to navigate our way through these growing times.
In recent weeks, Kaufman has been named as part of “the fastest growing county in the country.” With growth, comes a great responsibility. The Chamber understands that in order to have a strong economic environment you must have a strong community. We are truly blessed to have leaders, business owners, educators, and citizens who realize that we all share in the responsibility of creating economic success and happiness within our community. Together, we are better. We may be a small, rural town, but we have a large community heart.
We have so much to look forward to as the Kaufman Chamber of Commerce continues its mission of promoting, supporting, and enhancing a positive business environment. The Chamber has the absolute pleasure of celebrating with all our members. Whether that is a Ribbon Cutting for a new or relocated business, an anniversary, Honorary Business of the Week or Month, Business of the Year, our networking mixers, quarterly membership luncheons, or exciting events around town, we look forward to supporting and celebrating with you!
I want to thank you all for your support. I especially want to thank my Executive Board and Board of Directors. I appreciate your efforts and countless volunteer hours in promoting our business community, strengthening community relationships, and making our town a better place to live.
And finally, thank you - our Chamber members. I know you are part of the Kaufman Chamber of Commerce because you believe in the value and importance of our business community. Together, we will continue to make a significant impact on the city that we love.
The Chamber invites you to call, click, or stop by to learn more about the area and our member businesses. We encourage you to think and shop local! By supporting the businesses in our directory, you are reinvesting in your community.
I believe it is the work of boards to always strive to leave their organization even better than they found it. I deeply appreciate your trust in me, and it is my great honor to serve as your Board Chair for 2023.

Foundation Board and is slated as one of the presenters at their annual conference this February for the second year in a row.
“I am really looking forward to 2023. This year’s board is diverse and innovative and full of great ideas.
Cassidy Earnheart has been married to her high school sweetheart for 18 years and together they have three amazing kids. Their oldest is a Kaufman High 2022 graduate and currently attends TVCC and works full time at Jalisco’s in town. Their middle child is a sophomore at Kaufman High School, he also works at Jalisco’s. You probably know him, he is the one with curly blonde hair. Lastly is their precious girl who attends Helen Edwards Early Childhood Center.
Cassidy moved to Kaufman in 2001 from California (don’t judge). She moved to Arizona in 2005 to be close to her family but quickly realized that as much as she didn’t want to admit it Kaufman had become home. Kaufman is what Cassidy always dreamed of as a little girl. A small town where everyone knows everyone, a place to raise a family and become a part of something special. Cassidy attended ReChurch on the Kaufman Square for close to 18 years, was married there and had all her children dedicated there. The last two and a half years she has become very involved with C|Life Kaufman.
Cassidy’s passion is people. She enjoys her position with the Chamber of Commerce because she can cross paths with people from Kaufman in different areas and seasons of their lives.
Cindy Skinner is a part-time FUNdraising and Marketing Specialist at the Chamber. Cindy and her husband sold their Mabank horse ranch in 2022, and currently live with their three dachshund ‘kids’ in two different RV’s; one on a friend’s property in Grand Saline, and the other at the ATV mud park in Jacksonville, where they operate one of their businesses, SCS PowerSports ATV Rentals. They also own SCS PowerSports Repair, an ATV/motorcycle/jet ski repair shop in Gun Barrel City. Cindy is also a companion to a lady with Alzheimer’s and she takes her on weekly outings and adventures.
Having spent many years in specialty retail management, Cindy left her career in 2019 to become selfemployed as an independent agent for Globe Life Family Heritage Division. She specializes in accident, cancer, heart attack/stroke and hospitalization supplemental insurance, and she works fiercely to protect people when life hits hard.
She joined the Chamber staff in the spring of 2020 and has enjoyed the relationships built with many of the local businesses in the community. Her desire to make a difference by brightening anyone’s day is visible in her infectious energy and silly sense of humor found in the weekly newsletter.

TO KAUFMAN
Located right in the center of the fastest-growing county in the nation, Kaufman is home to a vibrant and diverse population of residents, a booming business community, an A-rated school district, nationally recognized Texas Health Presbyterian hospital, and parks and recreation options for the entire family.
Given its proximity to Dallas, Kaufman offers easy access to all the conveniences of a big city, while preserving the benefits and laid-back pace of a small-town lifestyle. As we are fond of saying: It’s a great place to live. A great place to work. And a great place to raise a family.
There’s a long list of reasons that Kaufman is a great place to call home. But at the top of that list are our people. That may sound cliché, but it’s true. Kaufman is a community full of folks who are always willing to help – and they’ll do so with smiles on their faces. That is the real key to our success – our people.
Our citizens volunteer their time throughout the community at their churches, nonprofit organizations, and civic clubs. They are our police officers and firefighters and public works employees. They teach in our classrooms and serve on the school board. They operate our businesses and restaurant’s. They are our nurses and doctors. They’re our little league coaches. They are folks we interact with every day, who always show an unwavering support for our community.
I am keenly aware, from my position as mayor, that we have a big head start in Kaufman simply because of the people who make up this community. That said, every decision we make at city hall is in answer to one question: will this improve the quality of life for the citizens of Kaufman? With that in mind, we strive every day to deliver services that benefit our residents and businesses while maintaining the small-town charm that we love so much.
I invite you to come visit us. I think you’ll find out what those of us in Kaufman have known for a long time: This is a great place to live. A great place to work. And a great place to raise a family. Kaufman is simply a great place to call home.
Welcome to Kaufman!! We are a great community to be a part of whether you are moving your family or business here, or both!
Kaufman is a very friendly and supporting community and we have a business-friendly City Council.
Your Chamber of Commerce is working hard to be a catalyst for business growth, a convener of leaders and influencers who can make things happen and a champion for our community. Kaufman is a growing community in the fastest growing county in the nation. We have many new homes coming to our community as well as businesses. Additionally, the city is working on several quality-of-life initiatives such as improvements to our parks, including an inclusive playground, and a plan for a walking/running trail that will circle the city. Pieces of this trail are already in place.
We, the Kaufman Chamber staff and board members, are pleased to work with and for the businesses in our community, providing referrals, networking opportunities, website, and social media presence, shop local initiatives, educational opportunities, and advocacy.
Contact us today at 972-932-3118, www.kaufmanchamber.com or stop by. We are in the Kaufman Civic Center 607 E. Fair St. on the left side of the building.
Welcome to Kaufman and welcome to Kaufman Independent School District. I am Dr. Lori Blaylock and it is my honor to serve as Superintendent of Kaufman ISD. Our district is a fast-growing district made up of seven campuses and more than 4300 students.
Our highly qualified teachers and staff work hard to ensure that each student achieves success within a very safe and caring environment. We understand that capturing the hearts of our students is an important first step in their educational journey and that high expectations will continue to motivate them as they find their purpose in life.
That is why the Texas Education Agency has given Kaufman ISD an academic rating of A! It is also why our students exceed in UIL athletics and a variety of other programs designed to engage their interest and provide them with the skills that they will need to become a productive and self-supporting member of our community.
We take great pride in every one of our Lions, from PK-12th. Thank you for joining our family and for sharing your precious children with us.

Take a morning or afternoon to visit downtown Kaufman. Architecture of interest include the Historic First National Bank building, built in 1908, which now houses a tearoom and gift shop. Greenslade Drug, now a shared office space and gift shop, was the oldest pharmacy in Texas continuously owned and operated by the same family until its closure on July 29, 2006, after the death of 76-year-old owner Dave Greenslade. A Texas historical marker is on the building.
In the middle of Kaufman Square stands the Colonel Isham Chisum Courthouse. The historic courthouse was constructed in 1955. Stop by the trough on the east side of Kaufman Square, which today is a fountain where visitors stop to take pictures.
Locally owned restaurants, gift shops, clothing boutiques, afterhours lounge, and more welcome visitors to stop by and enjoy some small-town Texas hospitality.

In the center is a pentagon shaped pedestal topped by an American eagle. Flags of the United States, Texas, POW/MIA, and Kaufman County Veterans’ Memorial Park fly over the monuments. The settlement that later would be called Kaufman County grew up around Kings Fort, a small fortress with four cabins, a stockade and fence that protected a group of men William King hired to survey the area. Indians were common in the area at the time, and the fort served as cover, as well as a home base for surveyors and other travelers. King purchased land and tried to attract settlers to the area until his death in 1841. Charles F. Mercer brought colonists to the area between 1844 and 1846, and the area became known as Kingsborough.
Kaufman County was formed in 1848 and named after David S. Kaufman, a noted Texas patriot who was elected in 1845 as one of the first members of the Texas delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives.
In April of 1851, Frances A. Tabor, the widow of Dr. King, deeded 150 acres of land for the new county seat, keeping 12 lots for herself. This land included the site of the old fort and included much of what became the City of Kaufman.
A series of courthouses were built near our current courthouse and county offices. A stone building was built around 1887 and remained in use until 1955, when it was torn down to make way for the current two-story building.
Several historic homes remain standing in Kaufman, particularly
on Houston Street, which parallels the main thoroughfare of Washington Street. First United Methodist Church and First Christian Church are located on Houston Street, as well. Other historic churches in the area include First Presbyterian Church on Mulberry Street and Our Merciful Saviour Episcopal Church on Jefferson Street.
An interesting aspect of Kaufman history is the Kaufman County Poor Farm.
The farms, once fixtures throughout the state, have all but disappeared, and Kaufman County’s is one of the few remaining in the country that is still owned by a county. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, those who could not provide for themselves were ordered to live and work on the farm.
The Kaufman County Historic Commission is consistently working to preserve the site. The farm is on Preservation Texas’ list of top 10 endangered sites. The site is also home of the county’s old jail.
Kaufman is a growing community, with much of the new growth taking place in the Kings Fort area, named in honor of the area’s original settlers.

Kaufman Chamber CEO and Accredited Chamber Executive
The landscape of the City of Kaufman is changing, and it is an exciting time. It is awesome to look around and see all the new houses that are being built, anticipate the new businesses coming in and the planning and progress of all aspects of our city.
One good thing that came out of the pandemic was a concentration on shopping locally and discovering that many of the items sought in other cities could be found here in Kaufman. Our local businesses also rose to the occasion and shifted how they did business which has resulted in more dollars spent here. Initiatives like the Shop Local, Easter Egg Hunt and Small Business Saturday events continue to encourage keeping our dollars local. Keep watching the Chamber Chat e-newsletter to keep up on new and renewing members, local networking, and education events, shop local initiatives, member of the week, businesses to focus on right now and, of course, dad jokes.
A convener of leaders and influencers who make things happen, the Kaufman Chamber of Commerce in its effort to support our local businesses and Kaufman Independent School District has been meeting with Trinity Valley Community College, major employers, the EDC, and others with the intent to shrink the gap between the positions that we have open in Kaufman and the skill sets available to fill the positions. We support and encourage the new TVCC Workforce Training Center here in Kaufman to support the Career & Technical Education (CTE) program at KISD and to provide training in skill sets such as construction trades, welding, HVAC, car mechanics, truck driving and policing. KISD has an internship program that started in the fall of 2022, working with local businesses. Alongside these initiatives, the Chamber Board has started a scholarship for high school students that work at Kaufman businesses. The goals of this scholarship are threefold: to provide member businesses with employees, to highlight job opportunities
in Kaufman following graduation and to incentivize students to work locally while in school.
The change coming to Kaufman is inevitable, considering our proximity to Dallas, and our City Council has been diligent about controlling the growth, so it is positive and productive for our businesses and residents. They had the foresight to put in the necessary infrastructure prior to the growth so we would be prepared. We will be welcoming several new housing and apartment developments, new retail opportunities and a planned development that will introduce an indoor sports complex, office space, restaurants and more to our community. The Civic Center that opened in 2021 has been extremely popular and has hosted everything from shot clinics to major fundraisers to family reunions and prom. This asset in Kaufman is gaining attention for future conferences that will be aided by adding hotels to our landscape.
This year, the Kaufman Chamber is well positioned to continue the growth, profitability, and leadership of this fantastic community. Join today and be a part of the progress.

Kaufman Economic Development Corporation
It’s a great time to be in Kaufman, Texas! Momentum and excitement are brewing as we progress in growing our community. Kaufman is proud to be the county seat of the fastest growing county in the nation. We currently have over 2,000 housing units in the pipeline which will most likely double our city limits population over the next decade or so. We are witnessing record sales tax collections and growth within our retail sector.
The Kaufman Economic Development Corporation was created in 1994 by Kaufman voters with the vision of diversifying our local economy and tax base. Supported by ¼ cent of the local sales tax, Kaufman EDC reinvests in building the future Kaufman that will generate a positive economic growth. A key focus of the Kaufman EDC is recruiting new employers that will provide jobs to area residents allowing them to live and work close to home. The KEDC also works to enhance the community’s retail and downtown revitalization efforts, which is witnessing continued expansion due to our location as the south-central commercial hub for Kaufman County. Over the last year, the Kaufman EDC has worked to identify infrastructure development needs, secure future sites for commercial/industrial development and work with our existing businesses both large and small to understand their specific needs.
2023 should be a great year for the City of Kaufman with new businesses and significant interest on the horizon. The Kaufman EDC office is located at City Hall, 209 S. Washington St., and welcomes those looking to establish or relocate their business to Kaufman.
