Welcome to the heart of the Texas Hill Country!
Boerne is both literally and figuratively an entryway into one of Texas’ most beautiful regions, the Hill Country.
While just a couple of decades or so ago, Boerne (pronounced Bur-nee) easily could have been considered “forgotten.” Today, it is a town where technology and times past enjoy equal balance.
Boerne is recognized across the United States as a desirable place to live. Listed by the U.S. Census Bureau as one of the country’s fastest-growing regions, the area’s rapid expansion has meant numerous new housing subdivisions as well as an influx of industry, business and tourism.
Boerne strives to hold on to its warm, smalltown origins. Oak trees still grow together in canopies above many city streets while a trip to the grocery store almost guarantees an encounter with friends and neighbors.
The surrounding countryside is lush and arid, dramatic and pastoral. Streams and rivers soften the sharp-edged limestone topography. Roosters and goats, still raised around the city by a few old timers, may wander about under cell phone towers that have risen within the last several years.
Established by a young group of Germans who considered themselves classical philosophers – or Free Thinkers – Boerne originally didn’t allow churches inside the city limits. Today, however, the town is home to numerous religious congregations.
Also enormously important within the ranks of the city’s population is its volunteerism. Citizens selflessly donate countless hours not only to religious matters, but to social, educational, environmental, political and historical causes as well.
The crown jewel of Boerne’s history is its quaint Main Street. Also called the Hill Country Mile, it is lined by many of the buildings that formed the vibrant core of the county’s “city life.”
These structures, although admired by tourists, are still thought of as home by the town’s octogenarians.
“That’s the house where I grew up,” one might point out, or “There’s the hospital where I was born,” or “Here’s the dry goods store that sold us fabric for our dresses.”
And apparently it’s not only long-timers and newcomers who are drawn to Boerne’s old structures. Ghosts, it seems, are drawn to the buildings as well. For example, the lovely, ornate Joseph Dienger building on Main Plaza has an officially certified other-worldly occupant believed to be the building’s original owner, Joseph Dienger himself.
Whether it’s shopping, visiting the area’s beautiful caves, exploring the local nature center, enjoying historically authentic exhibits, birding, cycling, hunting or hiking, Boerne provides the ideal blend of the urban and the rural.
Close on one hand is an international airport, the Alamo, the San Antonio Riverwalk, SeaWorld of Texas, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, the San Antonio Zoo and numerous concert and museum venues. Nearby on the other hand is the unique and sought-after beauty of the beautiful and picturesque Texas Hill Country.
So, on behalf of The Boerne Star, one of Kendall County’s oldest businesses after being established in 1906, welcome to the heart of the Hill Country!
WHILE THE VETERAN COMMUNITY TODAY REMAINS A VITAL part of Boerne and Kendall County, veterans always have been a significant part of the history of the local community. This is evidenced not only by the monuments erected in the county over the decades but also by the number of veterans laid to rest in the Boerne Cemetery, beginning with those who served in the Mexican American War and continuing through ay the war in Iraq.
There are more than 700 recognized veterans buried in the Boerne Cemetery, information from the Boerne Cemetery Foundation stated. The majority, 340, of them buried in the cemetery served in World War II. Additionally, 94 veterans who served in World War I, 91 who served in the Korean War and 41 who served in the Vietnam War also are buried in the local, historic cemetery.
The city and county’s rich history of veteran residents stretches back to the 19th century, as two veterans who served in the Mexican American War, which took place between 1846 and 1848, and 19 veterans from both sides of the American Civil War, 1861-1865, were sent to the local cemetery for their eternal sleep.
One local veteran buried in March of last year, George Gray Majirus, was born in Boerne in March of 1922, having started and ended his life’s journey in the same hometown.
According to Majirus’ obituary from February of last year, he joined the United States Marine Corps in 1940 and served in the South Pacific Campaign as a mater tech sergeant in World War II. He’s noted for having driven President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s son, Jimmy Roosevelt, for several days after the bombing at Pearl Harbor in 1941. After serving in several combat areas, Majirus returned to his Boerne hometown in 1945 where he worked as a mechanic on Main Street and a machinist at Kelly Air Force Base until his retirement in 1975.
Majirus is one example of many veterans who served in wars dating back to the early days of Boerne and Kendall County who now rest in the Boerne Cemetery. Many recognizable names tied to the genesis of Boerne and Kendall County can be found in the local cemetery, showing the deep-rooted tie between this region and military service.
Some of the oldest gravestones in the cemetery are those of history’s veterans, including the namesake resident of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 688, Bruno Phillip. The Phillip family veteran history tied with Boerne begins with Julius Paul Phillip.
The senior member of the family lived from 1843 until December 1964, and he served in World War I while in his 70s, according to the Boerne Cemetery Foundation records.
Julius Paul Phillip’s oldest son, Julius A. Phillip, was a Kendall County judge for 10 years and headed other county offices in his lifespan from 1867 to 1935. But, the junior Julius Phillip’s oldest son, Pvt. Bruno Phillip, served in the same world war as his grandfather, where he lost his life at the age of 31 in the tail end of the war in 1918. Bruno Phillip died Sept. 3, 1918, with just over two months left until the armistice was signed.
“Our post is named after a local hero named Pvt. Bruno Phillip.,” the local VFW post said of its namesake resident. “On September 3, 1918, Boerne resident Pvt. Bruno Phillip paid the ultimate sacrifice for freedom and the United States of America. He was killed in battle during combat in the forests of France in World War I.”
Another Phillip veteran lies in the cemetery, Sgt. Vincent Phillip, although there’s no record of relation to the three generations of Phillip graves. The U.S. Army Air Force veteran lived from 1916

to 2002 and served in World War II. Beyond his military service, he was a Kendall County commissioner for 12 years and was a longtime active member of the Kendall County Junior Livestock Association, further proving how closely tied the local community has been with the veteran community for generations.
While Mark “Tyler” Voss wasn’t laid to rest in the Boerne Cemetery, he was a local resident whose family kept the ties to the community unsevered. Voss was buried in Arlington National Cemetery after he died
in a plane crash near Chon-Aryk, Kyrgyzstan. The local American Legion Post 313 named its post after the young fallen soldier, and a memorial was placed in Voss’ honor at Veteran’s Plaza in Boerne. During many, if not most, veteran holidays, the local Legion honors him. Voss Middle School also is named in his honor.
The Phillip family is just one example of familial veterans buried in the Boerne Cemetery. Two Perrin brothers, Arthur (1894-1936) and Stanley (1896-1944), were both U.S. Army captains, with Arthur
serving in World War I and Stanley serving in World War II. Two native Boerne Bergmann brothers, Walter (1913-2003) and Elmer (1919-2019), served in World War II together. Elmer was a U.S. Air Force veteran who also went on to serve in the Korean and Vietnam wars. Walter
While the majority of veterans in the Boerne Cemetery served in one of the two world wars, some of the veteran gravestones predate the global disputes. There
are 19 known Civil War veterans marked in the city site, with seven Union soldiers and eight Confederate soldiers identified. Although Texas did succeed from the United States in 1861, joining the confederacy and mainly supplied soldiers and supplies to more central confederate states, the Hill Country is notable for housing groups of union soldiers and sympathizers.
The Treue Der Union Monument in Comfort is dedicated to the 36 Union sympathizers in the Hill Country who were mostly German immigrants and were captured and killed by Confederate soldiers. The slain residents were attempting to flee to Mexico rather than fight the Confederate forces.
Notable Civil War veterans from the Boerne Cemetery Foundation include Confederate soldier Gustav Toepperwein (1835-1915), whose name carries generational history in Kendall County with several gravestones carrying the Toepperwein surname, and Union Lt. Col. Emeric Szabad (1825-1894). Szabad was an immigrant from Hungary who moved to Boerne and became an author and Union soldier. His grave remained unmarked until 1987 when the local VFW Post 688 and Masonic Lodge recognized his grave and marked it.
While many of these graves have seen the ware of time as families spread throughout the state and nation and lost ties with their Boerne roots, several gravestones have been replaced since the 19th century by lingering legacies that mirror the modern reflection of the local community’s deseeded appreciation for its veterans.
The Patrick Heath Public Library keeps burial data for the deceased, the locations of graves and is compiling genealogical data on those buried at the Boerne Cemetery. Information also is available through the city by calling 830-248-1635.
BOERNE, THE COUNTY SEAT OF KENDALL COUNTY, is bound by Cibolo Creek, Interstate 10 and Highway 87 about 30 miles northwest of San Antonio in the southern part of the county. In 1849, a group of German colonists from Bettina camped on the north side of Cibolo Creek, about a mile west of present-day Boerne. They called their new community Tusculum, after Cicero’s home in ancient Rome.
IN 1852, GUS T AV T HEI E N AND J OHN J AME L AI out the town’s site and changed the name to Boerne in honor of Ludwig Börne, a German poet and publicist. Ironically, Mr. Börne never visited the town that was named after him.
A post office was established in 1856 with August Staffell as postmaster. The community had only 10 houses in 1859, but it was chosen to be the county seat by a margin of 67 votes after the county was established in 1862. A courthouse was built in 1870 and is still in use, making it the second-oldest courthouse in Texas.
Boerne developed the reputation of having a very healthy environment and quickly became known as a health resort. By 1884 it had five hotels, assorted businesses and 250 residents. Cotton, wool and grain were
the principal shipments, but timber, cedar posts and building stone also were profitable commodities.
The arrival of the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway in 1887 brought increased economic opportunity, and by 1890 the population of Boerne had risen to 800. Boerne residents voted to incorporate in 1909 and established a mayor-alderman form of city government. Also in that year they established the Boerne Independent School District.
The population was reported at 950 in 1914, and the community prospered through the 1920s. The Great Depression of the 1930s, however, all but put an end to the tourism and cotton farming that had been staples of the local economy. The population fell from an estimated 2,000 in 1928 to 1,117 in 1931. It had risen to only 1,271 by the 1940s.
In the 1950s, however, many residents turned to nearby San Antonio for employment, and Boerne became a bedroom community. The population grew at a slow but steady rate, reaching 2,169 in 1960.
In the 1960s construction in neighboring Bexar County of the San Antonio Medical Center and the University of Texas at San Antonio, as well as the completion of Interstate 10, made Boerne even more attractive as a town from which to commute. Its population rose to 2,400 by 1970, 3,254 by 1980 and to 4,274 by 1990.
In the 1990s the population exceeded 5,000, making Boerne eligible for Home Rule. This was voted in by its citizens in 1995. Accelerated growth in the late 1990s and early 2000s increased the population to an estimated 10,661 according to the 2010 census. The 2020 census showed a big jump with a population of more than 19,000.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Boerne was the 15th-fastest-growing city in the United States, population of 10,000 and up, from 2010-19, exploding by 71 percent during that timeframe.
Meanwhile, Kendall County was the fifth-fastest growing county in the nation, population 10,000 and up, during the same time period. In July 2019, the county’s population was listed at 47,431, compared to 33,384 in 2010. That computes to a 42.1 percent hike.
In spite of the influx of different ethnic groups, the German cultural tradition has dominated the community in many ways. The Boerne Gesangverein, or singing society, which was established in 1860, was an important social and recreational organization until it disbanded in 1977. German community organizations still active include the Boerne Schuetzen Verein (shooting club), which was formed in 1864, and the Boerne Village Band, which was formed about the same time as the singing society.

of the city’s most stunning historic buildings can be found including St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, an iconic limestone structure built high on a hill overlooking the city. The church was modeled after San Antonio’s Mission de la Purisma (1730) with twin towers that rise 65 feet in the air. Next door, The Phillip Manor has seen many uses over the last 152
years, and now has been restored into a boutique hotel, pub and event center. Across the street, the two-story triple column structure with arched windows is the Victorian style Carstanjen House (also called The Mansion House). Nearby is the famous Kronkosky Tower, on the grounds of the Benedictine Ministries offering the best view in Boerne, and Veterans Park.
Looking for a place to relax and enjoy what nature has to offer? Come to River Road Park, located just off Main Street on River Road near downtown Boerne. Residents and visitors alike come to the park to enjoy the many features this beautiful location has to offer.
Feeding the many ducks that reside there that are beautiful, colorful and playful is one of the most popular activities at this picturesque park. There is also a winding walking trail where you can take a leisurely stroll, ride a bike or rollerblade. There are also clean picnic tables where you can enjoy a picnic or just relax and read a book. You may also see people of all ages fishing from the riverbanks and turtles that will occasionally pop their heads up out of the water.
If you love being in a serene and peaceful place and enjoying what mother nature has to offer then visit River Road Park in Boerne.
City Park, 106 City Park Road, is in a unique natural setting as it shares a border with Cibolo Creek, which boasts some of the most magnificent cypress-lined banks of the Cibolo. The park still serves as Boerne’s largest park.
In 1964, efforts were underway by the city to acquire a 125-acre tract of land to serve as the city’s first developed park. The mayor, Ray Smart, was notified on February 10, 1965, by a Western Union telegram from Ralph W. Yarborough, U.S. Senator, that Boerne would be receiving $12,159 from a federal grant to aid in the purchase of the park land.
Developed shortly after the city purchased the land in 1964, City Park was unique in that it offered the widest variety of recreational opportunities of any park in the city at the time. It also served for many years as the city’s only park that supported athletic activities such as softball, baseball, tennis and soccer. Today, the park has tennis facilities, multi-purpose fields and a swimming pool.
Located about one mile northwest of Boerne off of Upper Cibolo Creek Road, this large lake has attracted outdoor enthusiasts for decades.
Concerned over flooding in Boerne, city forefathers recognized a need to create a means to assist with flood control. An application was made to the Texas Water Commission to seek approval for water rights in the Cibolo Creek Watershed of the San Antonio River Basin. The Texas Water Commission granted permission to the city of Boerne on January 7, 1972, to construct and maintain a dam and reservoir on Cibolo Creek for municipal purposes to aid in flood control.
In September 2005, the Boerne City Council approved development of City Lake Park. To protect this valuable asset of the city, the Boerne City Council approved the first set of ordinances for the lake in March 1979. One of the most significant rules of the lake is that no motorized boats are allowed on the lake. This is to further protect
Beyond the shops and bustle of historic downtown, Boerne’s host of natural features are a must see for any visitor. From unbelievable living caves to beloved natural preserves, nature enthusiasts and thrill seekers will find something to suit their fancy. From day outings to camping trips, the wonders of the Texas Hill Country will be memory-making for any family.
Ever since the publication of the famous German-American novel, The Hermit of the Cavern, the caves of the Texas Hill Country have been a beacon to the stalwart adventurer and casual spelunker alike.
Cascade Caverns first opened its doors in the early 1930s, and Cave-Without-a-Name followed just a few years later in 1939. These natural wonders are made possible by Boerne’s unique location on a massive deposit of calcium carbonate – or limestone. Over millions of years, underground rivers and groundwater eroded the limestone, leaving behind the massive caverns and breathtaking formations that exist today. The geological process can still be seen, as both of these caves are “living” and water continues to erode and deposit formations at a glacial pace.
At Cascade Caverns, visitors can wander through the winding corridors, looking for the unique Cascade Caverns Salamander that makes its home in the lake. For those seeking an extra thrill, Adventure Tours take spelunkers down into the mud for an unprecedented, up-close look at the cavern system.
Set amid the turning backroads of the Hill Country, a scenic drive north of town takes wanderers to Cave Without A Name. Known as “the Little Carlsbad,” Cave Without A Name boasts a near endless collection of breathtaking formations, as well as several large, open caverns where visitors can experience the renowned acoustics at frequent concerts. Camping facilities are available at both locations.
the water. However, sail boats, row boats and kayaks are allowed.
The park also offers swimming, picnic areas, disc golf, a pavilion and other amenities.
MAIN PLAZA
The central focus point of downtown Boerne, Main Plaza, 100 N. Main St., was the first area designated in the city of Boerne to serve as a community park. It was established about 1852 and was known as the Common Area. This area was much larger than the remaining part, which is now known as Main Plaza. The plaza is in the heart of Boerne and serves as the site of numerous festivals, concerts, car shows, celebrations and Boerne Market Days. The park features a gazebo, which serves as a location for weddings and concerts.
VETERANS PLAZA
At 801 South Main St., Veterans Plaza is one of the original four park sites in Boerne. The park is filled with a variety of trees and sidewalks that lead to the center of the park, where the Veterans War Memorial is located. The park is the site of annual gatherings for veterans and Memorial Day ceremonies.
Many Kendall County residents have answered the call to duty to serve their country in time of war. In 1923, the H.J. Graham family erected a memorial monument near the center of Military Plaza (today known as Veterans Plaza) honoring all the men who died as a result of military action in the armed forces during World War I. The names of those who lost their lives are listed on the four sides of the monument.
Years later, a bronze piece was added to the top of the monument recognizing veterans. And plaques were added to recognize those that were killed in combat during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. As part of the 2014 renovation plaques were added recognizing those killed in combat during the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.
Included with the 2014 renovations of Veterans Plaza, “The Walk of Honor” was installed. The Walk of Honor was part of a fundraising project to help finance some of the shortfall for the entire park renovations. It is an extra wide walkway from Main Street to the center of the park lined with bricks that include names of family and friends
who served or are still serving in the military.
Located across from Curington Elementary School at 524 Adler St., this park covers about 7,500 square feet featuring a plaza style design. The city worked with the local skating community to get its input on what the park should feature. The result was a one of a kind streetscape plaza style park that features various skate ramps.
Located at 111 Water St., this fenced and shaded park is very popular with families with younger children. Kinderpark is perfect for small birthday parties and gatherings. Amenities include a covered pavilion, picnic tables, benches and a unique and exciting playground.
One of Boerne’s true natural gems, the Cibolo Nature Center was born of the dreams of local citizens who wished to see natural habitat not only restored, but preserved in perpetuity. Since the 1980s, the CNC has continued to develop and grow both in size and in learning opportunities, celebrating the Hill Country land and natural resources as an important legacy.
With conservation as its primary focus, the CNC’s library and exhibits allow for learning, while its many trails let visitors explore a variety of ecosystems within a small area through which a beautiful, cypress-bordered stretch of the Cibolo Creek runs.
One of Boerne’s most historic and beautiful structures, the Herff farmhouse and its surrounding
property, was purchased recently as an extension of the Cibolo Nature Center. Something of a neighborhood gathering place, the Herff Farm land is the location of a community garden, a weekly farmers market and other special events.
Three county parks lie within just a few miles of Boerne’s central Main Street area.
The Joshua Springs Park & Preserve is the first of the county’s large and beautiful nature areas and a place where walkers and hikers can enjoy an extensive trail system as a way to experience the Hill Country in a peaceful, up-closeand-personal way. Birders are provided with many opportunities for sightings, including areas that are specifically dedicated to chimney swifts and bluebirds, while fishermen are welcome at the park’s ponds and waterways. The most developed of the county’s three parks, Joshua Springs offers pavilion and playground facilities, among many other amenities, including a new disc golf course.
Just around the bend from Comfort, the James Kiehl River Bend is a 25-acre area of exceptional beauty
and peace dedicated to a local veteran who died in Iraq. Almost 2,000 feet of riverfront land allow visitors swimming, paddling and fishing access to the exceptional beauty of the Hill Country’s celebrated Guadalupe River.
Another lovely and quiet spot is the Kreutzberg Canyon Natural Area - more than 100 more acres of rolling countryside adjoining the Guadalupe. Left largely undeveloped, three miles of paths trace the river’s banks, while wildlife observation blinds allow visitors to stop and observe the natural world around them.
GUADALUPE RIVER STATE PARK
East of Boerne, just past the quaint hamlet of Bergheim, is the Guadalupe River State Park. Horse lovers have access to several miles of an equestrian trail system, and campers can pitch their tents on any of the multiple camping sites. Miles of water access allows enthusiasts to fish, paddle, swim and float, while the Children’s Discovery Center gives children hands-on access to exhibits, themed discovery boxes and a backpack of tools that make exploring the park fun.
THE CIBOLO CENTER FOR CONSER VATION transforms lives through the love of nature, welcoming guests into a beautiful natural Hill Country setting for nature education, enriching community experiences and environmental research. With two campuses encompassing more than 160 acres in the heart of Boerne, the Cibolo Nature Center and Herff Farm offer miles of trails, distinct ecosystems, gardens and connection to the regions agrarian roots. These campuses protect the fragile Cibolo Creek watershed that contributes more than a million gallons per day to the Trinity and Edwards aquifers. The watershed is a primary source of drinking water for the region.
The Cibolo Center for Conservation is widely considered a premiere example of what a community can do when hearts and minds come together. The Cibolo devotes itself to preserving, sharing and teaching about living harmoniously and sustainably with nature. What was once a small grassroots organization today is a reputable conservation leader serving more than 100,000 children, adults and families annually.
The Nest Nature School provides a rich child-centered learning environment for preschool aged children (ages 3-5) built on uniquely developed curriculum that prioritizes exceeding developmentally appropriate learning standards. The curriculum incorporates play and learning in nature to best support the whole child academically, socially, emotionally, physically and spiritually to ensure that they are prepared for Kindergarten and beyond.
The Farmers Market at Herff Farm is an open-air farmers market on the historic Herff Farm. Individuals can buy products directly from local growers, ranchers and crafters on a beautiful German farmstead in the Texas Hill Country. Explore fenced gardens, pollinator meadow and trails and see the historic limestone Herff House.
Cibolo summer and spring break camps provide opportunities for learning through nature play and hands-on activities. Children engage in enjoyable science learning while having fun in several ecosystems with creek time and archery every week. The Cibolo also offers a myriad of events and programs throughout the year, including an outdoor concert series, guided hikes, festivals, gardening workshops and more! Go to www.cibolo.org to find more on the calendar of events.
We welcome volunteers in many ways from individuals to large groups from organizations and businesses. Whether you are by yourself or with a group, the Cibolo has both short-term and ongoing volunteer opportunities for many interests.
EAC H L AB OR DAY WE E KE ND, T HE KE NDAL L OUNT F AI S UP LI E home-grown fun through a carnival, rodeo and livestock show, as well as Homestead Heritage exhibits. It also supplies multitudes of food booths, craft booths, live music, clowns, children’s activities and much more. Each evening is capped with a dance with a variety of bands and dance music. The festivities start Thursday night with the queen competition followed by the opening of the fair exhibit hall on Friday, a parade downtown on Saturday and plenty of live entertainment through Sunday night. Visit www.kcfa.org for more information.
The Kendall County Fair has been an icon in the Hill Country community since its inception in 1905. The fair, as a fun-filled weekend and a showcase for the local agricultural industry, saw its beginnings as the citizens of Boerne gathered for the first time to share agricultural information, recipes and news of events on Sept. 4, 1905.
On July 1, 1913, the corporation gained a charter as a nonprofit from the state of Texas.
The Kendall County Fair Association produces the annual event. For more than 100 years, the nonprofit agency has maintained its agricultural mission for Kendall County and the greater Texas Hill Country.
At the gate to the beautiful Texas Hill Country, a vibrant rural community where agricultural industries are encouraged, agricultural education is
promoted and where agriculture, horticulture and livestock management are flourishing, the Kendall County Fair Association works hard to maintain the agricultural traditions, enhance agricultural education and en-
courage rural development both now and into the future.
The Ferdinand Ludwig Von Herff family deeded 56 acres of land to the KCFA to be used for its annual county fair and to erect buildings for the event

The Geneva School of Boerne exists to provide a classical education from a biblical worldview, to equip students for a lifetime of learning, service and leadership to the glory of Jesus Christ. It is a classical and Christian K-12 private school that pursues doing all things with excellence to the glory of God.
Educators are dedicated to a Christ-centered worldview and to the Geneva mission, locking arms with parents to provide a rigorous and time-tested education. The award-winning and accredited academics, athletics and arts programs uphold the classical ideal by teaching students to recognize what is good, true and beautiful in every endeavor. Educators teach from a Christ-centered worldview — everything students learn and do is evaluated according to the standard of God’s word. Geneva graduates enter the world well-spoken and
uniquely equipped to lead as servants, scholars, athletes and artists in their individual contests.
Located on 51 beautiful acres in Boerne, the school provides a place for all students to be known, foster a small-town roll-up-your-sleeves style of family volunteerism to get things done and cultivate an outward-focused community that actively loves its neighbors both inside and outside the school.
Geneva is a welcoming, tightknit community of people who trust and invest in each other with grace and grit. The school was formed in 1998 and began offering classes in 1999 to 13 students in kindergarten, first and third grade. The first senior class of 19 students graduated in May 2011. Today, Geneva serves about 700 students in grades K-12.

as opposed to a night in the city – Boerne has its own reserves of local fine arts opportunities.
The vibrant Boerne Community Theatre, after about three decades of stage productions, provides excellent excuses to get out of the house and into a live-event venue with a strong cadre of adults and teens who consistently bring down the house.
Boerne Performing Arts puts together an annual schedule of entertainment that pleases audiences of all ages. Performances take place in the Champion High School Auditorium.
Also, the Boerne Concert Band, a nonprofit organization that provides a venue for local musicians to present popular music for family-oriented audiences to enjoy, puts on several performances annually in the Boerne High School Auditorium. The concerts are free.
The Patrick Heath Public Library hosts a Live! At the Library series of concerts and events for guests to enjoy as well as other programs. Other local venues also provide artistic opportunities throughout the year.
HCCArts sponsors shows and offers classes that entertain and educate.
Two high school choirs, both winners at highest competition levels, provide regular opportunities for nights of great vocals. The district’s middle school choirs, which score high competitively as well, do the same.
Respected orchestral programs at the secondary school level also make for wonderful evenings of music. In fact, Boerne ISD’s entire music program has received national recognition, as well as individual performance honors.
Local high schools also have talented theater departments and produce outstanding stage performances.
BISD fine arts events can be found at www.boernebisd.net and click on “calendar.”
