Lori alone graduated from Te as A niversity in . Her rst job was at plendora lementary. he also holds a master s degree from tephen . Austin. he is deditcated to the education and sucess of the children in orth amar I .
What led you to become a principal?
“ kay, so I was, I graduated from Te as A niversity in , dating myself. When I was, my rst job was at plendora lementary. I was single and tephen . Austin brought mid management classes, master's degree classes, to humble high school. And my principal encouraged me to go ahead and get my mid management degree since I was still single, and I had just gotten out of college and all that. o that's how I managed to get this degree.”
how long have you been a principal?
“I've been in education over years. I was at plendora for three years, one year at ell's, years at acon, years at ailey, two years at tone as assistant principal, and then I've been here Higgins ever since.”
In all your years of being an administrator for different school districts, what's been the most impactful thing that you noticed?
“Impactful here Higgins is just the children coming to school every day and spending uality time with their teachers and learning to read and function in a structured environment and just thriving that way.”
Has there ever been a time where you felt like you helped a teacher excel in their classroom?
“As a principal, I try every day to get into classrooms and help. I think it helps the staff. I think it helps the students. It's just, you know, every day is an adventure and everyday you're walking into something new and it's just fun. That's awesome. It's fun.”
What programs do you like to implement at Higgins to help the student become leaders in the community?
“We do have parent family engagement activities. We invite families into the building for all kinds of social studies days, grandparent days, science days, you name it. We have after school activities to help parents get involved. A lot of times it's the same people coming, but you really see a difference in those that are coming.”
What words of encouragement would you give to a young person who would want to seek out this career for themselves?
“It's not for the weak of heart, every day is a new day, but I think if it's something that you can manage different things coming at you all the time and you can manage all kinds of emotions throughout the day and just to be steady, calm and you know, just be yourself, but to be a force in the steady and the calmness and I think that manages itself throughout the building.”
What do you do for holidays?
“We did blankets for seniors one time and cards for the nursing home. We do the spooktacular parade at Halloween, which is a huge, huge success. It brings a lot of people in the building and the children love it. Christmas, we put up the trees everywhere and we have parties, including decorating the outside of the school, the kids love it.” u

Families build their farm of dreams
Sometimes dreams do come true. ut they come true because of diligent planning and hard, hard work. uch is the case with fam ily owned Cottage arms on out near umner.
Carrie and Carl Bethea, along with their daughter and son in law KayCie and Conrad yck, combined their individual business ven tures into one to create Cottage arms akery and arm tore.

That’s only the beginning, though. Outside there are lots of activities for kids. The “gravel pit” has toy earthmov ing e uipment and tractors, there s a hay castle to e plore, and a petting barn with a variety of gentle animals. There’s a “rabbitat” that delights everyone. And of course, there s a pumpkin patch.

There are vegetable gardens and they’ve put in an or chard which will have apples, peaches, and pears. They’re growing blue berries, have pecan trees and Carrie’s favor ite, muscadine grapes.
And, their home is an Air , which stays booked up It has its own outside door and the Betheas offer ideas of things to see and do in the Paris area.
Carl used to be senior construction manager on wind turbines and the couple traveled all over the United States.

Her family has been in amar County since the s and she grew up at ovice on a cattle farm.
Carl grew up in Winnsboro around truck farming so they both have agricultural backgrounds.

She was doing the baking at the farm but is currently doing social media. She and Conrad have a little boy and girl and are expecting another boy soon. Carrie is doing the baking now. There are three full time and two part time employees.
Carl and Conrad built the airy farm store themselves, with a lot of help from toddler son grandson. The oor is wide, un nished boards for a reason.
Growing up, every country store had a certain sound when you walked in on those nailed down board oors. loved that sound and decided to replicate it here to add to the farm store feel Carl explains.
Conrad is from eli e. ayCie did a mission trip at age 18, went back to teach and she and Conrad fell in love and married.
Carrie and Earl met and fell in love 30 years ago cruising Mirabeau S uare with all the other teens.

What is the KonMari Method?
Are you tired of living in a home lled with items you rarely use In the best selling book The ife Changing agic of Tidying p, apanese author and e pert organi er arie ondo outlines her techni ue for turning a cluttered home into a tidy and peaceful place.
The on ari ethod differs from other decluttering methods in that it recommends cleaning by category rather than room by room. There is an order to “ ondoing” your home
. Commit yourself to tidying up the whole home within a timeframe of a few weeks.
. Tidy by category, not by room. The categories are clothes, books, paper, komono miscellaneous goods and sentimental items.
. Touch each item and ask yourself if it sparks joy. The answer will help you determine whether you should keep it.
. iscard items before beginning to organi e what s left.
The third step may be confusing to people who are just starting with the on ari ethod. ondo herself admits that this can be awkward at rst, but that people get used to it uickly. Think of it as choosing what to keep instead of choosing what to discard.
In addition to outlining a way of decluttering your home, arie ondo also advocates new ways of organi ing and storing what you ve kept, including her own techni ues for folding clothes.
If you d like to know more about the on ari ethod, pick up the book at your local bookstore or library, or watch the et i series of the same name. u

Warning Signs Suicide
Since eptember is a ICI TI TH, it is important to understand the magnitude of this problem. The World Health rgani ation WH estimates that almost million people die every year from suicide What makes a person decide to commit suicide It is dif cult to understand what drives so many people to take their own lives. ut it is widely acknowledged that suicidal victims want to end their sufferings because they see no hope and cannot bear any further pain since they are in a perpetual state of hopelessness and depression.
Suicide warning signs what to look for?
• Talking about Suicide ne of the earliest signs that a person can detect with a suicidal victim is that he she may start talking about committing suicide by using e pressions such as “I wish I were dead” I wish I wasn t born” with an unusual focus on death

• A sudden sense of calm after they are extremely depressed: It means he/she has made up his/her mind to commit suicide.
How to help a suicidal person?
The best way a family member or friend can help is by being empathetic. Lend a listening ear. Let your loved one know and understand that he/she is not alone and that you care. You can offer help but do not take responsibility for making your loved one well. The suicidal person has to take that responsibility upon him/herself to recover.
It is a very courageous and a daunting task to help a suicidal person recover from depression and self-destructive thoughts. It is very painful for family members emotionally to go through helping a suicidal person recover. Family members should also seek counselors to talk about their feelings and will need to ask for professional help with their suicidal family member in certain cases. Call National Suicide Prevention lifeline at: 1-800273-8255 for professional help.
According to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, at least 90 percent of all people who die by suicide suffer from one or more mental disorders like: bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression or alcoholism. However depression plays a much larger role in all suicides. Therefore, as a family member, encourage a healthy lifestyle in a suicidal victim; introduce plenty of sleep and getting in the sun with family and friends for at least an hour a day. Exercise is extremely important for a suicidal person as it introduces endorphins, promotes emotional wellbeing and relieves stress.
Even if immediate suicidal crisis has passed monitor the suicidal family member /friend closely. Keep all potential means of suicide out of the reach of the suicidal person like pills, guns, knives etc.
If a suicide attempt seems imminent, call 911. u

It's a joy to witness
It is a joy to witness people progress and ful ll their purpose in life but it is also a tragedy to observe lives become stagnate and unful lled. A huge reason we fail to progress in ful lling our purpose is that we have accepted the present state of our lives as the best we can do under the circum stances.
The concept “under the circumstances,” is a phrase that we have heard over and over in our lives and most of the time its reference is not from a positive place. This concept, “under the circumstances,” serves to imprison us and to immobili e our od given ambition. any of us have surrendered to the status quo and have be come prisoners of war of our own minds. We often forget that “circumstances” are simply temporary arrangements of life that we all face. We overlook or disregard that fact that these circumstances are designed to identify, e pose, develop, re ne and ma imi e our true potential. It s not what happens to us that matters, but what we do with what happens. uch of the time we are not responsible for our circumstances, but we are always responsible for our re sponse to those circumstances. A major key to ma imi ing your potential is to become dissatis ed with the circumstances that restrict, limit, and sti e your potential.
Thessalonians ive thanks in all circumstances for this is the will of od in Christ esus for you.
It is my opinion that we possess great potential and all have a signi cant purpose in life. nfortunately, in most instances, we still fail to move beyond good intentions and never experience the fullness of our lives. o.....the uestion is Why I believe our comfort is greater than our passion. We become more concerned with tting in than standing out. emember, we will never change any thing that we are willing to tolerate. Our Creator wants us to consciously choose to ful ll our purpose and ma imi e our po tential because in doing that we bring glory to His name. History gives us evidence of only a few rare individuals who, driven by a passion to achieve a vision in their hearts, initiated their own deliverance, rose above the tide of the norm, and impacted their generation and ours. Consider the work of ev. artin uther ing r. hilippians I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. nder the circumstances could be de ned as a crisis or a wakeup call, but however de ned, trust that you can over come any circumstances with faith that if God brought you to it, He will bring you through it!!
Hebrews ...e uip you with every thing good for doing His will, and may He work in us what is pleasing to Him, through esus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. u
Roman Restoration
Pasta carbonara is the oman's answer to comfort food. It's composed of a humble trio of ingredients eggs, cheese and noodles which, with the elemental magic of heat and water, alchemi e to create a glistening bowl of pasta that's as restorative as it is comforting. Crispy pancetta is a traditional ingredient in a carbonara, and its rendered fat adds salt and avor to the dish. While less traditional, sweet peas add brightness and balance the pork in this recipe.
This carbonara comes together uickly, so it's important that your ingredients are prepped before you begin cooking. The most important element is the egg and cheese mi ture, which coats the hot noodles and creates the slick sauce that binds the dish. Add the whisked eggs and cheese to the hot noodles away from direct heat, stirring constantly to thoroughly coat the noodles. The heat from the pasta will help to cook the eggs, and the stirring will prevent them from scrambling. It may sound complicated, but once you give it a go, you will see how easy and foolproof this method is.
Try to use bucatini for the pasta, which resembles thick spaghetti with a hole running through the center, which allows the sauce to permeate the pasta and give it more avor. u

Try the Classic American Western
Searching for something to recommend in light of the dearth of lms currently showing at the cinema, I was delighted to learn that there are many classic Westerns available on cable T Ama on rime, et i and H . And TA has an entire channel devoted to the Western.
The Western, the ultimate American lm genre, encompasses the classic setting between civili ation and savagery.
TH A CH is considered the de nitive classic Western. In it, ohn Wayne and director ohn ord create a beauti ful and brutal vision of the West. The famous shot of Wayne standing in the doorway of

The hero or anti hero , than, is shown as a loner who spends little time with his loving e tended family.
The ne t time he visits them, a particularly violent party of Indians has brutally slaugh tered the family, kidnaped the daughters and burned down their cabin. This sends than off in a rage with a desire for vengeance. He and a nephew spend years looking for the one surviving niece and her abductors. When he nds her he thinks that she is more Indian

This fully animated game has a Studio Ghibli art style and hand-drawn backgrounds. As expected, the game opens up with an ama ing cinematic cut scene where you are introduced to the world and eventually the main protagonist, Anne. our aim is to investigate the Forgotton Lands, a world fueled by blue magic energy called Anima. The land is populated by Forgotlings, which are animate items that have been neglected and lost to time. The game s mechanics are heavily based on using anima, as you will need it to traverse the 2D side-scrolling world. Forgotton Anne is an Adventure Platformer with plenty of light-hearted pu les to solve. The way the art is done throughout this entire game truly makes you feel like you are playing out a real Ghibli-style lm. Gameplay will take about 4-5 hours, and there are multiple endings to unlock. f you have already played this game and loved it or are thinking about getting a copy, have some wonderful news for the fans Throughline Games has announced a se uel called Forgotlings, which is set to release in 2024. The art style of Slice of Sea is truly a breath of fresh air. The game was entirely illustrated on paper with ink. The line work is both simple and intricate can t help but be reminded of Shel Silverstein when look at it. The colors are muted, with mostly cool tones of grays, greens, and blues, with little pops of reds and purples throughout. Described as an adventure pu le game, you play as a sea creature named Seaweed who has found himself on land looking to make his way back to the sea, where he belongs. PC gamers can re oice, as Slice of Sea is a PC exclusive and is currently not ported to any consoles. The indie adventure game was created by a lone developer, Mateus Skutnik, who is a man of many talents. Skutnik is a musician, artist, game developer, and comic book author. f you are wanting to play any of his other games, he has a series on Steam called Submachine and Daymare, which can both be found on his website, https www. mateus skutnik.com.
ust because it's hand drawn doesn't mean it's for kids. ated mature for lood, trong anguage, and iolence, mori is an old school style game similar to the arthbound series but and I can't believe I'm saying this way weirder. nlike the other games on this list, mori isn't fully hand drawn. The game itself is a top down pi el style with hand drawn elements that pop on the screen as you play. The artwork's style is not consistent either, which I love. ou just never know what's going to happen visually. ometimes the style looks like it was drawn with bright colored pencils, and other times you will get a scene right out of aint. There are even bits of real life photography sprinkled in. The game as a whole is a bi arre work of art and is highly praised for how it portrays mental health issues, including childhood trauma, depression, and an iety. The game has ve known endings good, bad, secret, neutral, abandon, and knife, each determined by the player's choices and how they interact with others throughout the game. mori is an atmospheric masterpiece with a deep narrative, making it an e perience worth having. mori can be found across all gaming platforms.
