WELCOME FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
NISD FAMILY & RATTLER NATION Welcome to Rattler Stadium… welcome to Navasota ISD… and welcome to Navasota, Texas, USA! We are so excited about this upcoming 2021-2022 school year and all the opportunities for success that it holds. Last year was one for the books! Our teachers, staff, students, and families all stepped up during an unprecedented year that, at times, may have felt like it had more questions than answers. One thing remained the same… that the family of Rattler Nation came together and did an amazing job time and time again! I have never been more proud to be a part of this Rattler family and community! The staff and students here at Navasota ISD are truly GAME CHANGERS!!! Thank you for all that you do every single day! There are two priorities at NISD: • To provide for the safety, security, and the well-being of every single student and staff member every day. • To provide the highest quality of education to help our students and our staff be successful in what they do – both now and in the future.
DR. STU MUSICK Superintendent, Navasota ISD
Along with those priorities, part of our Mission Statement reads… “As a multi-cultural, professional community, the district provides equitable experiences for students to participate in a rigorous curriculum using the latest technology in quality facilities.” As you know, there are a few remaining construction projects that are taking place all around Navasota ISD from our 2017 Bond that was passed. We are nearing completion on the remaining projects at Phases Three, Four, and Five and we are excited about the completion
of all remaining Bond 2017 projects within the coming few months this Fall semester! From the “boring stuff,” such as replacing roofs and HVAC systems, to the “exciting stuff,” such as our brand new Career & Technology Education (CTE) Center, new Science classrooms and labs, and additional classroom wings on some of our campuses to provide for much needed room to grow. In addition to the academic campuses, the Career & Technology programs, and the Fine Arts facilities, the athletic facilities have also seen a major renovation across the board. These are just a few of many great projects going on throughout Navasota ISD. Someone once said, “It only takes a few seconds to tear something down, but it takes years to build something great!” We are ALL a part of the wonderful atmosphere and activities that are going on not only in Navasota ISD, but also in the Navasota community. We are ALL on the same team and we ALL bring important talents and abilities to the “huddle.” The important thing to remember is that it takes ALL of us working together, pulling in the same direction, and building each other up, in order to be “GAME CHANGERS!” It truly is an exciting time and a great time to be a Rattler! We are ALL IN this TOGETHER! #WeAreNavasota

After graduation Dacus continued his athletic career playing a year of baseball at Wharton Junior College before transferring to Abilene
Christian University where he played for three years. Dacus earned a Master’s Degree in Sports Management from Baylor University. Cornelia Wilson has been an English teacher and Cheer Sponsor for more than two decades at Navasota ISD. Since she took over the Navasota High School Cheer program, the Rattler Cheerleaders have become known for being technically sharp and award-winning at UCA Camps. However, “sponsor” isn’t really the best word for what Mrs. Wilson does. The Cheer organization is a family, and she is a second mom, friend and confidant to many. Wilson lives and breathes school spirit and Rattler Pride. She spends countless hours holding practices, dreaming up pep rally themes, coordinating events on campus or within the community
20
and supervising the cheerleaders from the sideline at sporting events. Because she brings tough love and a fun personality to the cheer program and to all Rattlers, Wilson has influenced hundreds of students and embodies the spirit of NHS. For 40 years, she has been married to Dan, who organizes the tunnel crew at football games. They have three beautiful daughters — Sarah Shalley, Hannah Wilson and Rebekah Santoy – who are NHS alumni; two wonderful sons-in-law, Daniel Shalley and Roberto Santoy; their greatest joy is being “Cookie” and “Chief” to their grandsons, Parker, Pierce, Patton, and Rome.
