Magic Valley and Kentucky Lake AREA ATTRACTIONS NATHAN BEDFORD FORREST STATE PARK Located on the western bank of Kentucky Lake, this is the highest point in West Tennessee. The park offers a group lodge, seven cabins, camping area, and a primitive camping area (see LODGING, pg. 12), two covered picnic pavilions plus numerous picnic tables, excellent views of wildlife, viewing area from the top of Pilot Knob where General Forrest defeated a fleet of Union gunboats, PLUS an abundance of history, a Tennessee River Folklife Center, and a soon-to-be gunboat museum. DUCK RIVER SCENIC OVERLOOK - Located on the Duck River Wildlife Refuge, the overlook offers a spectacular view of the Tennessee River Valley from high above. It is located just a few miles north of Exit 133 off I-40, at the 7 mile marker on Hwy. 191. PATSY CLINE MEMORIAL - Historic site where country music stars Patsy Cline, Cowboy Copas, Hawkshaw Hawkins, and pilot Randy Hughes tragically lost their lives in a plane crash March 5, 1963. A stone monument, located 2.8 miles north of Camden on Mt. Carmel Rd., stands in their honor. TENNESSEE RIVER FRESHWATER PEARL MINI-THEATRE AND MUSEUM, FARM, JEWELRY SHOWROOM AND PEARL TOUR The only freshwater pearl culturing operation in North America is open seven days a week, year round, as featured in Southern Living Magazine. Brief tours available to walk-ins, or take a 4-5 hour guided journey through the history of freshwater pearls (reservations only). THE HUMPHREYS COUNTY MUSEUM AND CIVIL WAR FORT - Located high above Waverly in a beautifully restored mansion, the museum houses a fine collection of Indian and Civil War memorbilia. The Civil War Fort, directly behind the museum, boasts a very well-preserved rifle pit. Located at 201 Fort Drive, Waverly. 931-296-1099 PARIS-HENRY COUNTY HERITAGE CENTER - Established in 1989, the Paris-Henry County Heritage Center is housed in Cavitt Place, the most prestigious mansion in Paris when it was built in 1916. Cavitt Place retains its original painted glass windows, marble staircase and floors, ceiling and wall murals, and mahogany woodwork. This Italian Renaissance two-story home was called by one state historical expert “the jewel in the crown of Paris,” and is situated in the North Poplar Historic District. Offering unparalleled wildlife viewing year-round. Seasonal quota hunts for whitetail deer, and non-quota hunts for turkey, raccoon, and squirrel are popular. Starting at Exit 133 off I-40, the 55,000 acre complex continues along Benton County/KY Lake’s eastern border on into Henry County and crossing over KY Lake into Humphreys County. CAMDEN SPEEDWAY - Located at 500 U.S. Hwy. 70 Bypass featuring a dirt track that is three-eighths of a mile from start to finish. FIDDLERS’ JAMBOREE - Held annually the third week in April at the Holladay School, located at 148 Stokes Rd., 584-2217 to participate in the Blue Grass or Fiddler’s contest. FORT DONELSON NATIONAL MILITARY PARK - Located in Dover, Tennessee, Fort Donelson illuminates a crucial Civil War battle in which General U.S. Grant first gained fame. Stand at the cannon emplacements on the Cumberland River Bluff and imagine the bombardment of gunboats below. Find out why the Federals threw away their coats and blankets when a snowstorm was coming. LORETTA LYNN’S DUDE RANCH - Take a tour of the Coal Miner’s daughter’s plantation home, see a replica of her humble family home, or relax and enjoy country music at its best. Civil War reenactments, motorcycle races, concerts, and many more events are offered year-round. HOLLOW ROCK - The town of Hollow Rock gets its name from a massive rock situated just off the railroad tracks running through the town. What used to shelter vagabonds jumping the train, and now boasts a small park. PARIS LANDING STATE RESORT PARK - Paris Landing State Park is 841 acres located on the western shore of the Tennessee River on Kentucky Lake. The park sits on the widest part of the lake, making it the perfect location for water sports such as fishing, boating, swimming, and water-skiing. The park also offers a beautiful and challenging Par 72, 18-hole golf course. The park pro shop provides golfing supplies, lessons, rental clubs, and carts. CASEY JONES VILLAGE, HOME & MUSEUM - The life of John Luther “Casey” Jones, a courageous railroad engineer, is highlighted at the Casey Jones Home & Museum.
