Wimberley’s been a home and destination for millennia. e early inhabitants farmed and hunted game, as did the settlers who came in the 1840s, who added cattle, sheep and goats to the mix. Our current settlers come for the climate, beautiful Hill Country and friendly atmosphere that makes living and visiting here a mindrestingWimberleytreasure.is a world destination because of our dining, waterways, vistas, weather and the neighborliness that seems to only grow as the town grows. People leave their big city ways as they drive into town, and take our little city ways with them when they go.

Over the years Wimberley has transformed from a summer visitor community to a year-round destination. We are a mecca of artists, musicians, galleries, shopping boutiques, amazing restaurants being sourced by local farms and so much more. People come to Wimberley to heal from the outside world, and we having healing and massage therapists here to help.

No matter why you are here, enjoy your stay.

Regional Park preserves Wimberley’s Blue Hole as a summer swimming hole, with hiking paths catering to runners, walkers and cyclists, winding throughout the park. ere are even soccer elds, which are where Star Parties happen since Wimberley is one of the few Dark Sky Communities in Texas.

Once you’ve found Wimberley, you’ll understand why it’s called “a little bit of heaven.”There are no major highways running through town and being far away from the hustle and bustle of the big city is one of the reasons people love it here. Although Wimberley is very accessible to Austin and San Antonio and only three hours from Houston, it’s tucked away in the rolling hills of the beautiful Texas Hill Country. Cross the Blanco River and the beautiful Cypress Creek and you’ll understand that you have escaped for a while or for a lifetime.

Many restaurants have been opening up over the past few years with some even remodeling to keep up with an evergrowing tourist industry. is recent surge of new restaurants has caused the entire food scene to step up to separate themselves, adding even more diversity into the Wimberley foodOpeningscene.

While Wimberley may be known for its artistic and musical side, the food culture is gaining traction within the valley.

According to Mark Grimes, one of the founders and executive chef of the Supper Club, Wimberley residents have been wanting a ne dining experience that doesn’t require having to travel a long distance.

A burgeoning food culture

e Supper Club o ers a variety of high quality meals served with fresh ingredients, from their pastas to Wagyu cut steaks to Alaskan Halibut to a wide variety of cocktails, wines andDespitebeer.

“ ere are some really nice restaurants in town,” Grimes said. “But you’d have to go to Austin if you want to get dressed and fancied up to have a nice meal experience. A lot of the folks we talked to said it would be nice if they didn’t have to drive out of town to have a real special meal.”

in the summer of 2022, Ranch Road 12 Supper Club of Wimberley has become a hit with the locals, bringing a newfound, high-class dining experience.

Fish Tales is also trying to emphasize the importance of being a local restaurant.

“ “

Practically right next door to the Supper Club, Dos Olivos Market has its own focus on the locals, while also providing a little something for everyone.

seriously and make any adjustments if they have any suggestions. There haven’t been too many, so we hit the mark pretty well.”

Dos Olivos

Kyle ach, the general manager of Dos Olivos, says the restaurant operates with a variety of different services.“Weare a bunch of things wrapped into one,” ach said. “We are a butcher, market, wine bar and a full service restaurant. We sell local Texas products and Spanish imports. Our wine bottles consist of Texas wines, but we also branch out to the west coast and international as well. Our menu doesn’t slide into any certain cuisine, we use traditional European methods and put a little Hill Country manners into it.”

As aligned within their business model, Fish Tales puts an emphasis on making fresh food ready to order.

“Our food is made to order,” Harpring said. “It’s all hand breaded and hand cut, meaning we take the sh and cut it into strips, we take the chicken and cut it while also hand-breading it. It’s not frozen, unlike some restaurants that pre-freeze it.”But not only is having fresh, not frozen, meals important, but the amount of care and detail as well.“It’s the love we put into the food,” Harpring said. “We put care into every plate. We have a three step process where the cook inspects it before taking it to the next level for inspection, and then the person at the window checks it.”

Despite opening in 2 1 , Dos Olivos went under a major rebrand and remodel this summer, transitioning from Los Olivos by growing into four markets in Dripping Springs, Buda, Harlingen and Wimberley becoming a one-stop shop.

Fish Tales serves a variety of seafood and Cajun dishes and is already getting rave reviews around town. As with all of the new restaurants, there is a high bar for good food in Wimberley, but each has brought a new twist to continue to enhance Wimberley’s burgeoning food scene.

“We understand the market really well,” Brett May said. “... We are trying to keep up with the locals and being able to take care of them.”

“A big thing is the exclusivity of our products,” ach said. “We try to stock our shelves with items you are not going to nd anywhere else. It lends itself to the environment and the kind of experience we provide here. We pride ourselves on providing our customers with an exploration period and take them throughout Texas and all over the world to provide the best service you can nd in town.” ’s a

Another new addition in the summer of 2 22 is Fish Tales, a seafood restaurant down River Road.Founded by Scott Harping, Fish Tales opened up a new location here in Wimberley with ve other locations being operated near Houston.

What Dos Olivos prides itself on is having products not found around town or in the Hill Country, as well as their service.

“There’s Market Days and shopping and wedding venues,” she continued. “Wimberley has great water, but there is so much more. There are so many reasons that people come here.”

Wimberleyay is a destination

When Espinosa says that Wimberley has great water, she says it from experience. Creekside Cabins is located alongside Cypress Creek in one of the most quaint areas to experience the waterways of Wimberley. Towering cypress trees create a canopy above the grassy slopes that lead down to the water’s edge, making for a great place to unwind — whether your plan is to swim or simply relax.

The Texas Hill Country, and more specifically the Wimberley Valley, have drawn visitors for decades if not centuries. The rolling hills ease into the deep valleys that are punctuated by the meandering streams and rivers that make Wimberley an iconic destination to visit.

“We are coined Rockstar Western,’ which was given to us by an Austin publication,” Mason said. “We don’t want to be cookie-cutter, and we are trying not to be like a traditional western wear store.

With more than businesses spread across the Wimberley S uare and plenty more around the rest of town, there is no uestion as to why. But one of the uni ue aspects to Wimberley’s shopping scene is that essentially every business is locally owned and operated. There may not be a single corporate-owned shop in town. This gives every shop the uni ue personality of its owner offering a wide diversity.

Cypress Creek Lavender

Wimberley has long been known as a shopping destination.

Wall Street Western is one of the most iconic shops in Wimberley, its corner location on the S uare welcoming visitors as they drive through town on Ranch Road 12.While western wear is their theme, this isn’t your traditional western wear store.

“In a small area like this, you have to be individual,” ac ue Mason, owner of Wall Street Western, said. “If you try to copy something to get the same thing, why are you doing that I’m not going to carry it.”

“You get a variety of customers that cannot a ord the same things as the others, so it’s very important to do the best we can,” Paparo said. “We have a pick your own discount sale where customers can pick discounts from a little gift bag of 10, 15, and 20 percent o .”

While Wall Street Western shows Wimberley’s country roots, there are plenty of other o erings around town.

Amber Busboom, owner of Cypress Creek Lavender, o ers a variety of products not only made with lavender but also made from her own lavender

Sol de Mexico is located in the business park at e Junction, which is the intersection of Ranch Road 12 and Farm to Market Road 32 on the way towards San Marcos. It is a one-stop shop for imported Mexican products.

But most importantly, Sol de Mexico doesn’t try to price out a certain number of customers, o ering a variety of discounts.

“Currently,farm.

Because of the calming e ects of lavender, Cypress Creek Lavender has also become a place where you can relax from a long day of shopping.

“Funny enough, our number one selling product is books,” Busboom said. “It goes well because lavender is calming and comfortable to which you can see yourself sitting down with a cup of tea. It’s very soothing and relaxing, which makes the books go well with the lavender products.”

Because of their products, Sol de Mexico is known for being a shop with products you can’t nd either in Wimberley or the Hill Country.

“We are an authorized Stetson retailer, which means we are exclusive in carrying Stetson in the Wimberley area,” Mason said. “We carry Stetson, Resistol and Charlie One Horse, which are all under one big company called Hat-Co. So we represent everything that they have.”

Cypress Creek Lavender doesn’t just sell beauty products either.

many of our products are homemade,” Busboom said. “We make the lotions, the spray, pet products, dog and human shampoos, cuticle oils and lip balm. I play around a lot with the cosmetics that are in the store labeled Cypress Creek Lavender, which is the stu I make.”

Sol de Mexico

“We are a Mexican import store with rustic furniture and talavera blue clay items,” Sharon Paparo, the general manager of Sol de Mexico said. “We also have tin merchandise and wrought iron outdoor pieces.”

No matter what store you walk into in Wimberley, it will have a variety of options that you can’t nd anywhere else. With so many shops vying for attention, there is no other way around it.

We have vintage and new products, so everything is mixed in the store.”

Wall Street Western

“We have items in our shop that most stores around don’t have,” Paparo said. “Customers are going to nd a nice variety of items that you can’t nd just anywhere. We aim for high quality but not super expensive products.”

“When you walk in, you are not bombarded with items,” Busboom said. “We have small tables and chairs where you can sit down, relax, and enjoy the smells… I want people to come and hang out here and relax.”While the shopping scene may be centralized around the Wimberley Square, there are plenty of other options around town also.

Wall Street Western is also the home to one of the few stores in the Hill Country to be an o cial seller of the world famous Stetson hats.

The Wimberley Valley has long been known as an artists haven. com.The organization has held a number of high-pro le events in Wimberley, beginning in 2 1 and 2 1 with Wimberley Alive, which celebrated the town’s recovery from the devastating floods. In 2 1 and 2 21, the Wings Over Wimberley festivals showcased local artists and brought attention to the over 1 , Mexican Freetail bats that fly nightly from under the Cypress Creek bridge on RR 12. The walls of the museum, which is the original Winters-Wimberley House, are at least 1 inches thick to protect from the arrows of Native Americans. This also helped with insulation from the Texas heat and cold. Inside the museum is the actual millstone from the mill. Pleasant Wimberley, the city’s namesake, was one of numerous owners of the mill. His sons’ house, called the Wimberley-Hughes House, is right next door. It was built for an age-old reason ach’s wife did not want to live with her mother-in-law.

Local history at the Wimberley Valley Museum

The next time you are driving around the Wimberley Valley, take a minute to imagine doing it almost 2 years ago or earlier on foot, horseback or in a wagon. No cleared roads, no payment, no easy way to get from here to there, no matter where there might have been. With that in mind, it’s easy to understand why the valley was not settled until 1 , when the area’s lush trees were con uered and a sawmill was established. The present location of the Wimberley Valley Museum is just a stone’s throw from that sawmill.

Blue Hole Regional Park is located off of Old Kyle Road a few blocks from the Wimberley S uare.

From the towering cypress trees that overhang the banks of the chilly natural spring-fed Cypress Creek to the miles of hiking trails through the native Texas Hill Country land, there are plenty of sights to see and things to do year round at Blue Hole Regional Park.

BLUE HOLE REGIONAL PARK

The city, along with many local private and governmental contributions, saved the park from creeping development. It is now the crown jewel of all the Wimberley Parks. Beyond the iconic swimming hole, it includes . miles of trails, picnic areas, a community pavilion, playscape, basketball court, sand volleyball court, and an amphitheater.

acob’s Well Natural Area is a Hays County park and widely considered to be an ecological wonder. A natural artesian spring, which forms the headwaters of Cypress Creek, the area is a recharge zone, and acobs Well is the wonder at the center of it. nderground springs replenish the “well” whose temperature is always degrees year round. The depth and allure of the well have drawn swimmers for centuries, with the rock outcroppings around the well making for the perfect place to relax and warm up in the sun. While swimming traditionally ends in September at the park, there are plenty of other options. The park with its trails and natural features is open year round.

Trails surrounding the valley and local parks are in place for locals and visitors alike who want to wind down, clear their heads, take a deep breath, and enjoy the sights and sounds of the area’s natural beauty.

e Patsy Glenn Refuge, located at the end of the Wimberley Community Center’s parking lot, was established as a 1.8-acre haven for local and migrating birds, wildlife, insects and native plants of the Wimberley area. A small rural town like Wimberley is lucky to be a part of the Texas Parks and Wildlife designated “Wimberley Loop,” which draws bird watchers to the trail that also consists of Blue Hole, the Red Corral Ranch, Jacob’s Well, Charro Ranch Park and Blanco State Park.

e Cypress Creek Nature Trail is 7.24 acres of natural beauty maintained by the city that starts just steps from the busy Wimberley Square. At the head of the trail, just a few steps down Old Kyle Road, is the Martha Knies Community Park with its whimsical new sculpture. e trail leads from the Wimberley Square along the banks of Cypress Creek until it reaches Blue Hole Regional Park where the trail continues on. e creek’s beauty in its natural state can almost hypnotize you into thinking this is how it looked before the footprints of man.

OLD BALDY

MARTHA KNIES COMMUNITY PARK

ere are anywhere from 218 to 222 steps up the side of Old Baldy. Nobody is quite sure how many, because you’re too lightheaded to remember once you’ve climbed to the top. But the climb is worth the e ort with breathtaking 360-degree views of the Wimberley Valley and the Texas Hill Country that is waiting at the top. e city park is only about 2.5 miles from the Wimberley Square. According to some of the local old timers, dances and even overnight camping were once allowed on top of Old Baldy. ere are also legends about past Texas heroes visiting, along with other stories.. Parking is very limited, so be nice to the neighborhood surrounding Old Baldy.

Located between Wimberley and San Marcos along Ranch Road 12, Middleton Brewery offers an assortment of different beers. Many of the beers change with the seasons - with the exception of favorites like Black Lab Porter, Garnet Belgian Red and Bobcat Red. All the offerings are brewed Belgian style. Their motto is an old Belgian saying, “Where beer is brewed, evil cannot exist.”

If you happen to be on the other side of town, you’re in luck too. On the way to Dripping Springs is the newest brewery in the area: Ghost Note Brewing. According to the owners, they are aiming for a different type of experience, one of relaxation.“Wecallit porch beer,” said Thelma Coleman, who owns Ghost Note with husband Kenny. “Sit outside at a picnic table and enjoy a porch beer. That is what our taproom is modeled on.”

The tasting room might as well be the front porch, with a covered picnic area and lawn games spread out over the lawn. With live music on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, it is the perfect place to enjoy the afternoon.

Ghost Note Brewmeister Tyrell Elliot came from Thirsty Planet, and he brings his experience with him. On tap are about a dozen beers he helped create. The four core beers start with the Painted Porch (a Pilsner), the Texas Sun Saison (a Belgian style top fermenting beer), That Tracks IPA, and the Hill Country Common.“Wecall it a Hill Country Common,” Coleman said. “It’s normally called California Common, but it is kind of our twist on it.”

Down the road and literally a block away, Roughhouse Brewing features “Farmhouse Ales” and offers IPA, fruit-flavored beer and a seasonal variety of brews. At Roughhouse, the ale’s ingredients include yeast harvested from the Pasternak Ranch and local spring water. Some are even aged in a subterranean cave underneath the brewery. Both breweries have to-go menus and offer food to patrons. They also feature live music on weekends.

There may be no better place to take in the views of the Texas Hill Country than the rooftop of Middleton Brewery. With a craft brew in hand, climb the decadent spiral staircase that reaches the roof where you can look over the Wimberley Valley.

Creek Winery is one of the most storied wineries in the state of Texas and is often credited with the creation of the Texas Hill Country Wine American Viticultural Area. After decades of success lled with international wine awards, Fall Creek opened a vineyard in Driftwood across the street from the famous Salt Lick BBQ. e wines are produced with 100% Texas grapes, and they have put Texas wines on the international map winning multiple awards from a half dozen world-class international wine competitions.

While a re in 2011 destroyed the vineyard, in 2016, new owners would purchase the land and replant anew. e fruits of those labors are now coming to fruition as Limestone Terrace Vineyard is open to the public and producing 100% Texas-grown wines. ey produce white, rose and red wines. Taste wine on the top of the property overlooking the beautiful Texas Hill Country. Situated in the newly constructed Barrel Room, the tasting room and patio provide an opportunity for you and your group to taste current releases amidst our future wines aging in barrels.

Duchman Family Winery was founded in 2004 by Drs. Lisa and Stan Duchman in a quest to bring world-class winemaking to Central Texas and the Texas Hill Country. It seems they have achieved their goal. e winery won two gold medals at the 2019 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the largest competition for American wines, for their 2014 Agliancio and their 2016 Vermentino. Beyond the amazing wine, Duchman’s is also one of the top wine destinations in Texas because of its beautiful Italian inspired grounds and architecture.

Driftwood Estate Winery and Vineyard claims they have a “million-dollar view” and visitors agree. Located on Elder Hill Road in Driftwood and just a few miles from Wimberley, the winery’s tasting room and grounds overlook a sweeping view of the Texas Hill Country. Family owned, they produce award-winning wines and even received Reader’s Choice for Best Texas Winery by Prime Living Magazine. In addition to the wines and the views, they now have a full menu of food options on weekends, served up by Driftwood Bistro.

Just a few miles from Wimberley proper, the Wimberley Valley Winery is a treat for all the senses. Located on Lone Man Mountain Road, the winery is a great place “to sit and watch the world go by,” according to owner Dean Valentine. Visitors can sip their wine and stroll the grounds while Texas Longhorn cattle and donkeys graze in the pasture. Several decks and outdoor seating options are available, in addition to some indoor seating. Fruit wines such as raspberry, blueberry and cherry are also produced and are tasty but they also o er a wide range of wines, from sweet to dry.

As for distilleries, Texans have always bragged about how big things are in Texas, and that’s a positive thing. But sometimes things are better smaller, such as small batches of rum from Wimberley’s Cypress Creek Rum. Handcrafted and personalized, they have worked to perfect the process that makes Cypress Creek Reserve a pleasure to drink, and they have been winning awards in the process. e small batch process demands that special attention is paid to each and every batch, ensuring that Cypress Creek Reserve rums are always avorful and easy to
