Many people lament having tired, achy feet. That’s especially so among women who routinely squeeze into uncomfortable shoes in the name of fashion.Feetcarry
Women who are concerned about the health of their feet and any feelings of discomfort in their feet should speak with a podiatrist.

· Wear supportive shoes. Podiatrists state that foot and heel pain is a common byproduct of plantar fasciitis, which is a stabbing pain felt under the soft part of the foot and around the heel. Proper arch support can relieve such pain. Supportive shoes or custom insoles can provide ample support to the arches.
Find relief with proper foot care
The Pedorthic Association of Canada says that, when a person stands, the same muscles in the feet fire repeatedly as the pressure on them remains constant. This differs from when one walks about and the pressure shifts to and from different areas of the foot so the same muscles aren’t working all the time. That is why feet may not ache as much after walking as they do after long periods of standing still.
These factors may be exacerbated by wearing uncomfortable shoes or high heels. Heels position the foot to point the toes downwards, which can put stress on the balls of the feet and also on the toes. Stress fractures of the metatarsal bones can occur if the strain is great enough. Pain also may extend into the knees and lower back.
· Don’t walk barefoot. Walking barefoot on hard surfaces, even indoors at home, can lead the foot to collapse. This can lead to a tremendous amount of stress on the foot and the rest of the body, advises Dr. Miguel Cunha, a podiatrist and the founder of Gotham Footcare in New York. Going barefoot also exposes the feet to bacteria and fungi that can infect the skin.
These foot-pampering steps can help women take care of their feet.

Everyone deserves access to the support they need, when they need it – and that includes mental health support. As of July 16, anyone facing a mental health crisis can call 988 and get connect ed to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (also called the Lifeline).
In the U.S., the average amount of time between the onset of symptoms of a mental health condition or challenge and a diagnosis is 11 years. It’s never too early to get support: If you’re facing a mental health crisis, reaching out can help. Mental health challenges and crises are widespread and you are not alone. As of July 16, it’s even easier for people living with these challenges to get the help they need. If you or someone you know needs to be connected to someone who can help, call 988 to be directly connected with a trained crisis counselor at the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
The line is staffed with trained crisis counselors who know what callers are going through and know what local resources might make a difference. The phone line is staffed 24/7 and is free and confidential.

When someone is facing a mental health concern or living with a mental health condition, it’s common to feel like no one understands what they’re going through. It may be difficult to imagine that someone who picks up the phone could understand what you may be feeling, and even harder to imagine that recovery is possible.

Unlike 911, counselors are at the other end of the Lifeline when you dial 988. They are trained to meet you where you are emotionally and to pair you with real resources that can help with what you’re going through.

is easily taken for granted . But when something goes awry, the value of strong eyesight is crystal clear. Once diminished sight oc curs, it is very difficult to get it back without serious intervention - if at all. That is why it is so vital to keep eyes healthy and functioning at their peak.
Protecting eyes is a simple yet often overlooked component of maintaining overall health. Taking measures to keep the eyes safe is both easy and effective

· Practice frequent handwashing. Washing hands regularly helps to keep bacteria, dust and dirt out of the eyes should you touch your face. In addition to washing hands, avoid rubbing your eyes.
Eye care involves regular vision checkups but also includes other components. The following tips can keep most people on the path to healthy eyes.
· Eat for healthy vision. Various vitamins and minerals are needed for healthy eyes, especially those in leafy greens like kale, spinach and collard greens. Fatty fish like tuna and salmon also have been shown to help the eyes, according to the Na tional Eye Institute. In addition, healthy eating can help people lose weight. Being overweight or obese increases the risk of diabetes, which contributes to vision problems.

· Say “yes” to a dilated eye exam. Many eye diseases have no early symptoms, so the only way to check for eye disease early is through a com prehensive dilated exam. Getting the eyes dilated is painless and fast. Specialized eye drops are used to dilate the eyes. Dilating the pupil enables the eye doctor to see inside of the eye to check for diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and retinal problems. Dilation will last for a few hours, depending on the patient. Although uncomfortable for a little while (dilated pupils let in more light, causing squinting), it’s well worth it to catch diseases early.
· Give your eyes a rest. Eye doctors know that people spend a lot of time staring at screens during the day. Providing a rest is necessary. Follow the 20-20-20 rule, which translates to every 20 minutes, look about 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
According to The Vision Council, nearly 60 per cent of individuals who routinely use computers and digital devices experience symptoms of computer eye strain. The health care experts at Cedars Sinai note that computer eye strain symptoms can include dry eyes, headache, blurred vision, and eye twitching. Despite the prevalence of computer eye strain, office workers and others who spend long periods of time at their computers can take steps to reduce their risk.
· Upgrade your tech. All About Vision notes that flat-panel LED screens with anti-reflective surfaces are preferable to computer screens with cathode ray tubes, which can cause an imperceptible flicker of images that contributes to computer eye strain. A large display screen, whether it’s a desktop computer or a monitor connected to a laptop, also can reduce risk for computer eye strain.
Schedule vision checkups. Cedars Sinai notes that uncorrected vision problems are a major cause of computer eye strain. The American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends individuals get a complete eye

hazards are a part of life for people in various professions. Office workers might not consider themselves vulnerable to injury when they’re at work, but individuals who spent much of their day staring at a computer screen are at risk of developing computer eye strain.

exam once in their 20s, twice in their 30s and then again when they turn 40. A comprehensive eye exam at 40 is necessary because the AAO notes that this is when early signs of disease or changes in vision may appear. Diseases or changes can contribute to computer eye strain, among other is sues. After conducting a comprehensive eye exam, ophthalmologists will then tell patients how often they should have their vision tested, and individuals should heed this advice and keep appointments.
· Redo your work environment. Cedars Sinai recommends individuals concerned about computer eye strain create a better work environment to reduce their risk. The online vision health and well ness resource All About Vision notes that eye strain is often a byproduct of excessively bright light. That light could be natural light coming in through a window or from interior lighting that is harsh on the eyes. If exterior light is making your of fice excessively bright, close drapes, shades or blinds to keep that light out. Excessively bright lighting fixtures can be remedied by using fewer light bulbs or fluorescent tubes or replacing existing bulbs with lower intensity alternatives. All About Vision also notes that some individuals find floor lamps that employ soft white light from LED bulbs are less taxing on their eyes than overhead fluorescent lighting.·

Avoid giving false hope

Many hygienists will hand out small toys after a suc cessful visit, or at the least a great new toothbrush and other fun products to try.
Many people are unaware that children should visit the dentist early in their lives. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that a child should visit the dentist by age one or within six months of the eruption of his or her first tooth. However, many parents wait until much later - age two or three - to take kids to the dentist, offers Delta Dental Plans. Hesitance to visit the dentist may stem from personal fears or perceived reactions by children.Primary
Do not tell a child that “everything will be OK” at the dentist’s office. If a child needs treatment that may be uncomfortable, he or she may not trust you the next time a dental visit is scheduled, according to Joel H. Berg, D.D.S., M.S., Director of the De partment of Dentistry at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Avoid words like “shots,” “pain,” “hurt,” or even “cavities.” Dentists, particularly pediatric dentists, may have their own vocabulary that can assuage fears and seem less alarming to kids.
Visits to the dentist for periodic cleanings and checkups are an important component of oral hygiene. Dentists also may be the first people to identify potential issues that can affect health elsewhere in the body.

Ask the staff if your child can get a special tour of the office with explanations of all the tools and equipment. Understanding what to expect the next time around in a no-pressure situation can make the process much easier for everyone involved. The dentist may be able to also give a test ride on the exam chair.
Over time, dental visits can become an easy routine with children, setting them up for a lifetime of healthy mouths and teeth.

· Alcohol: According to the health care experts at the Mount Sinai Health System, ethanol is the key ingredient in alcohol. Ethanol is a diuretic that causes the body to lose salt, vitamins and minerals. When consumed in excess, alcohol can contribute to dehydration and chemical imbalances in the brain that lead to headaches. Headaches resulting from the overconsumption of alcohol can last anywhere from hours to days. Mount Sinai recommends individuals who suffer from headaches to avoid alcohol.

· Allergies: The American Acad emy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunol ogy notes that there are occasions when allergies can contribute to headaches. For example, individ uals with rhinitis, often referred to as “hay fever,” can experience headaches that may result from si nus disease in and around the nasal passages. Individuals who feel their headaches could be a byproduct of allergies can consult with an allergist for tips on how to treat their allergies and potentially reduce the frequency of their headaches.
can be a nuisance unlike any other. When suffering from headache, it’s not uncommon for individuals to experience difficulty concentrating and many people also find it hard to sleep.H

· Smoking: Even nonsmokers can suffer from smoking-related headaches. The Cleveland Clinic reports that nicotine, which is the primary ingredient in tobacco products, may stimulate pain-sensitive nerves as it passes through the back of the throat. That stimulation contributes to headaches in some people, including the people smoking as well as those around them who are exposed to second hand smoke. Avoiding tobacco and urging smokers around you to quit or to avoid smoking in your presence may reduce instances of headache.Mount Sinai notes that light sensitivity, especially high blood pressure and hormonal imbalances are some additional headache triggers. Individuals suffering from routine headaches are urged to contact their physicians.
The prevalence of headaches can make it seem as though they’re inevitable. However, many headache triggers are the byproducts of lifestyle choices individuals make. · Caffeine: Mount Sinai notes that the relationship between caffeine and headaches is complicated. Over-the-counter headache medicines commonly include caffeine because it helps the body absorb the medication more quickly, leading to faster relief. However, overstimulation from caffeine is a com mon headache trigger. Individuals can speak with their physicians about their caffeine consumption, including how much is too much. Limiting such con sumption could reduce the frequency of headaches.

Did you know that automotive accidents are one of the leading causes of injuries? In 2012, more than 5.6 million car accidents were reported to law enforcement and car insurance companies, and the numbers keep growing. The attorney referral ser vice and legal information resource Find Law says the economic cost of car accidents is estimated at $277 billion each year.
In addition to causing property damage and damage to the vehicle, car accidents can result in various bodily injuries that may impact a person’s ability to function and work. Some of the more common injuries include trauma to the head, back and neck. Many different treatments can help people who have been involved in auto accidents. Including chiropractic care in treatment plans may help people decrease their pain and improve their mobility.Itisimportant for people involved in auto acci dents to seek medical care immediately even if the need for medical attention doesn’t seem readily apparent. · Reduce inflammation. Chambers Medical Group says that spinal manipulations and pressure release techniques can realign the spinal column and help release an anti-inflammatory substance through the body that can lower pain and inflammation.
Chiropractic care may be used alone or in concert with other treatment options. Medical professionals can work together to provide a regimen that will ease pain and help patients get on the road to recovery.
Improve pressure. Manipulations also can reduce pressure in the neck area, which in turn may ease the pain of headaches, stiffness, dizziness, and even ringing in the ears, according to the chiropractors at Pain Stop Clinics.

Long-term care, or LTC, encompasses services and support that assist individuals with the activities of daily living. ADLs include bathing, eating, dressing, toileting, and more. In addition, LTC may support needs such as caring for pets, household chores, medicine management, and meal prepara tion. LTC may be provided by specialized assisted living facilities or by in-home care workers.
Many older adults get some peace of mind by taking steps to finance long-term care should they become incapable of living independently.
Long-term care insurance can pay for care to treat chronic health conditions and meet personal needs over an extended period of time. This is known as custodial care. Individuals who have habits or health issues that could result in the need for LTC in the future should look into LTC insurance. LTC insurance also can be a sound investment for individuals who cannot afford extended nursing care out-of-pocket.TheOhioDepartment of Insurance notes that policies may vary, but they typically include a de ductible or elimination period, which is a time when the policy holder is liable for payment before the insurance begins. The resource Long Term Care Primer advises that individuals typically must fund their own longterm care. Many facilities are not subsidized by government assistance programs under Medicare in the United States. Medicaid may step in for certain individuals who are of limited means, but that as sistance may be exclusive to those living in skilled nursing facilities. That means the bulk of paying for long-term care rests on the individual.
Individuals who purchase LTC insurance should know that medical underwriting for policies can be extensive. Coverage may be denied for current or past health conditions. Most people find that the best age at which to buy LTC insurance is in one’s mid-50s. Healthy individuals may be eligible for discounts on LTC premiums.
Individuals also have other options in regard to securing long-term care. Care.com says compre hensive LTC policies, combination policies and riders to current life insurance policies may help augment long-term care needs. Because LTC insur ance - and paying for health care in general - can be quite confusing, people are urged to speak to professionals about their options and whether LTC insurance is necessary. A 2014 study by the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College esti mated that only 20 to 30 percent of people would benefit from a policy. Researchers concluded that, while many people do need long-term care, they may not need it for an extended period of time and may be able to cover their care with their own sav ings. Furthermore, cost for policies may be $2,000 a year - which is a concern for some people.

How to Manage Diabetes
The good news is that with the help of your primary care provider diabetes can be treated and managed. Treatment involves a multi-pronged approach: a healthy way of eating, regular physical activity, medication and regular blood sugar checks.

• Drink low-calorie, sugar-free beverages using natural sweetening alternatives in moderation.
Monitoring your blood sugar levels is the best way to determine if your treatment plan is working and ensure your blood sugars are staying at goal. Ask your primary care provider for blood sugar goals, when to check your blood sugar and when to call the office about blood sugars below or above goals. If you have high blood pressure, monitoring your blood pressure to make sure it is well controlled can be vital in preventing stroke and heart attacks.
• Fill half your plate with non-starchy vegetables, such as broccoli, asparagus, zucchini, tomatoes, cauliflower, salad or cooked greens.

One of the easiest ways to prevent the majority of sports-related eye injuries is through the use of proper protective eyewear. All safety gear should meet the standards of governing bodies like the American Society of Testing Materials. Impact-re sistant plastic or polycarbonate lenses are ideal. Outdoor sports also require lenses rated as 100 percent protective against UVA and UVB rays. Young athletes and their parents also can speak with an eye professional about preventing and treating sports-related eye injuries.
· Blunt trauma injury: This is a sudden impact to the eye or area around the eye. It’s often caused by a projectile, like a ball, hitting the area. Depending on the force, bruising, laceration or even an orbital fracture may occur.
Millions of students return to classrooms each fall. They also will be returning to the courts, fields, pitches, and courses to participate in their favorite sports.
· Chemical injuries: Other injuries involve those from chemical exposure. Fertilizers and pesticides applied to fields could kick up and get into the eyes of athletes, causing irritation. Swimmers may hurt their eyes through exposure to pool chemicals.
FamilyDoctor.org says basketball and baseball cause the most eye injuries, followed by water sports and racquet sports. The following are some common sports eye injuries.
The most common sports eye injuries
Eye injuries are among the most common sports injuries. MUSC Health reports that, every year, nearly 40,000 individuals sustain eye injuries during athletics or recreational activities. These injuries are largely preventable with the use of proper safety eyewear.

· Corneal abrasion: The cornea is the outer layer of the eye. An abrasion can occur on its own or in conjunction with one of the other injuries. Fingernails or objects can scratch the cornea. When that occurs, debris and bacteria may enter the eye, which could lead to infection.
Youth sports is so popular that, in 2013, ESPN characterized participation as “so big, no one really knows how big.” A 2016 report from the Aspen Institute titled “Project Play” indicated three out of four American households have at least one school-aged child participating in youth sports. In 2014, a study by Solutions Research Group found 84 percent of Canadian kids between the ages of three and 17 were participating in some type of sport and 60 percent were doing it on an organized basis. That same report sug gested that, while sports are wildly popular, one in every five kids who is involved with a sport will suffer an injury over the course of a year.
· Radiation injuries: Playing sports outside exposes athletes to the damaging rays of the sun. UV damage causes radiation injuries to the eyes.
· Penetrating eye injury: This occurs when something or someone cuts the eye. A finger or an outside object, including glasses breaking, can cause a penetrating cut.

Anyone who bites into a big chunk of garlic bread knows that less-than-fresh breath is a likely outcome of such an indulgence. But for some people, halitosis, otherwise known as bad breath, is something they regularly con front regardless of what they eat.
Functional Dentist Dr. Steven Lin indicates around 50 million people suffer from chronic bad breath. Halitosis often is a highly preventable condition, provided an individual can discover the root of the issue, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine. It’s important to note that while halitosis may be an oral condition, it also may be indicative of other health problems. That’s why it is vital to determine what’s behind bad breath.
not properly cleaned. Improper cleaning can con tribute to bad breath.
Anyone with concerns about chronic bad breath should speak to his or her dentist about their condi tion. If the cause cannot be traced to oral hygiene, an individual may be referred to a general physician for a physical to rule out other issues.

· Sinus illnesses or infections: Small stones covered in bacteria can form in the tonsils and pro duce odor. Infections, chronic inflammation of the nose, throat or sinuses can contribute to postnasal drip, which also causes bad breath.

· Tobacco products: Tobacco can cause unpleasant mouth odors, says the Mayo Clinic. Smokers and oral tobacco users also are likely to have gum disease, which contributes to bad breath.
· Dirty dentures: False teeth, such as dentures and bridges, can collect bacteria, food and fungi if

· Food: Certain foods are linked to bad breath. Notably, garlic, onions and some spices are absorbed into the bloodstream and have the potential to affect breath until they leave the system.

· Poor oral hygiene: Bacteria resides in the mouth on the teeth, tongue, and other tissues. Failing to floss and brush regularly may lead to increased bacteria growth, resulting in bad breath. Poor oral hygiene may lead to gum diseases, such as gingivitis and periodontitis, which also can exacerbate bad breath.
Sleeping with mouth open: Like other causes of dry mouth, sleeping with one’s mouth open dries out the mouth and can lead to what’s often referred to as “morning breath.”
· Dry mouth: When dry mouth, or xerostomia, occurs, salivary glands cannot make enough saliva to keep the mouth moist, states Harvard Health. Saliva helps flush away bacteria and food particles. Without saliva to wash them away, bacteria and debris can start to break down, leading to odor. Certain medications may cause dry mouth. Chewing sugar-free gum and using dry mouth aids can help moisten the mouth.

Some topical medications, supplements and other medicines may lead to rashes or itchiness. A rash may be an indication of an allergic reaction. Severe allergic skin reactions may warrant cessation of certain medications and such side effects should be discussed with a doctor immediately. Over-the-counter medicines, prescriptions or even herbal dietary supplements can cause side effects. WebMD notes that most of these effects are minor and may only be a temporary inconve nience. But some side effects may be more serious. Recognizing common side effects may not make them easier to confront, but it can give people an idea of what to expect. WebMD, the DNA testing firm Sequencing and the healthcare services research experts at Sehat report that the following are some common side effects of medications and supplements.Sincemost drugs and supplements need to go through the gastrointestinal system to be absorbed, stomach discomfort, constipation and nausea can occur. This is one reason why experts typically recommend taking antibiotics, which can cause indi gestion and diarrhea, with food. The vitamins and minerals in multivitamins also can cause stomach discomfort. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may cause the formation of gastric ulcers and stomach bleeding when taken for extended periods of time.
Drowsiness is often associated with antihista mines, anti-tussive (cough) medicines and muscle relaxants. Drowsiness can be exacerbated if medi cations are mixed with alcohol.

Certain medications, particularly those that adjust hormone levels like contraceptives and many anti-anxiety and antidepressant medications, can lead to weight gain.
Medications such as decongestants may increase blood pressure and contribute to confusion, rest lessness, and even insomnia. Decongestants, when taken in high doses, also can cause an intoxicating high, which is why they are so heavily regulated.

Dental hygiene matters because, without proper brushing and flossing, bacteria in the mouth can grow unchecked. It’s a two-way street with health and the mouth. Certain diseases can lead to issues in the mouth. HIV/AIDS may cause mucosal lesions in the mouth; those with osteoporosis may have weakened periodontal bone and tooth loss; and research has shown that diabetes puts gum health at risk.

is vital to make personal health a priority. Despite that widely accepted truth, far too often people delay trips to see their doctors. The coro navirus pandemic only compounded this issue. An April 2020 report from Modern Healthcare found roughly one in three Americans delayed medical care as they coped with the financial loss and stress caused by COVID-19. A report from CTV indicated Canadian cancer diagnoses were down 16 percent from 2018 to 2020 due to closed facilities or fear of getting COVID-19 from medical offices.
Concerns about the pandemic are not the only reasons individuals may skip doctor visits. Some avoid going to the doctor due to fear of the unknown. Dr. Barbara Cox, a psychologist based in San Diego, told NBC News that it’s common to feel reticent and anxious about going to the doctor.

Even though thousands of trained profes sionals play vital roles in the care of the aging population, many of the unsung heroes of long-term care are the unpaid or informal caregivers who step in to provide assistance to someone they love.

The challenges of managing caregiving and a career can be challenging, but it’s not impossible to perform both roles successfully.
· Develop a safety net. Reach out to trusted friends or reliable neighbors who can step in during emergencies when work schedules cannot immediately be adjusted.
A 2019 study published in the journal Geriatric Nursing found approximately 16.6 percent of the United States population age 18 and older self-identify as informal caregivers who provide care for adults with health conditions and disabil ities. Assistance needs range from “old age” care requirements for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias to impaired mobility assistance. Furthermore, Assisting Hands Home Care says roughly six in 10 family caregivers also work full- or part-time.
While it can be a noble effort to step in and pro vide care to a friend or family member, caregiving can be time-consuming and emotionally and physically demanding, particularly for those who also are balancing careers and families. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicates that while some aspects of caregiving can be rewarding, caregivers may be at increased risk for negative health consequences, such as depression and difficulty maintaining healthy lifestyles. These effects may be exacerbated by stresses at work.

· Avoid exposing infants to the sun. The Skin Cancer Foundation notes that infants’ skin is especially sensitive to the sun, so the organization advises parents to shield chil dren six months and younger from the sun rather than using sunscreen. Instead of applying sunscreen to their infants, parents should keep them out of the sun entirely. Seek shade between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., when the sun’s rays are es pecially intense. When taking infants out in their strollers, make sure they are shaded at all times and avoid walking on the sunny side of the street.
Safe Crib Regulations
Newer cribs also must have strengthened mattress supports and require more vigorous safety testing. Parents and caregivers are urged to get rid of any crib that was made, sold, leased, or resold before the standards were updated in 2012. In addition, after June 28, 2011 it became illegal to sell, resell or lease a crib that does not comply with the federal standards. While certain antiques or passed-down pieces of furniture may have sentimental value, unless they were made after December 2012, they likely are not up to current safety standards. Cribs that do not meet the standards should be disassembled and disposed of properly.
Crib standards changed in the United States when new federal guidelines were issued in late 2012.
spending time outdoors is a summertime tradition for people of all ages. Sunny summer afternoons may be especially cherished in 2020, when people across the globe have been forced to spend more time indoors as they adhere to social distancing guidelines implemented to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
· Consider sunglasses. Sunglasses are another way parents can protect their children from the sun’s harmful ul traviolet rays. Sunglasses can
· Introduce sunscreen at six months. The SCF advises parents to begin applying sunscreen to their infants when their children reach six months of age. Choose a broad-spectrum, water-resis tant sunscreen with a minimum sun protection factor (SPF) of 15. The SCF notes that sunscreens that contain zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are good choices because these physical filters do not rely on absorption of chemicals and are therefore less likely to cause a skin reaction. The SCF also advises testing the sunscreen on your baby’s wrist before applying it all over the body. This can indicate if the product irritates the child’s skin and needs to be replaced, or if it’s safe to use.
Parents of infants may be extra excited to get outdoors this summer. Chances to get out and about don’t come around very often for parents of infants, and those chances may be even more rare as social distancing guidelines remain in place. But before parents rush out the door to soak up some summer sun, it’s imperative that they take steps to protect their tiny tots from UV rays.

· Dress babies for the sun. The SCF advises parents to dress their babies in brimmed hats and lightweight clothing that fully covers their arms and legs. Dressing babies for the sun may seem like common sense, but the SCF notes that researchers at the University of Miami found that only 43 percent of parents consistently cover their babies with hats, and even fewer (40 percent) cover babies with long-sleeved shirts and pants when going out in the sun.
be an alternative for parents whose infants keep taking off their hats, as many baby-sized sunglasses are equipped with elastic straps to keep the glasses on. Sunglasses may be vital because the melanin in infants’ eyes is still forming, and that development can be adversely affected if infants’ eyes are exposed to UV rays.
All child care facilities, family child care homes, hotels, and other places of public accommodation are bound by the federal standards. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, these updated stan dards addressed issues with safety of drop-side cribs. Cribs that do not have stationary sides are prohibited, as are immobilizer and repair kits. Newer cribs also require stronger wood to prevent slat breakage, as well as an ti-loosening devices to keep hardware secure and prevent detachment.
In the rush to get outside, parents should make sure they don’t forget to take every step necessary to protect their infants from UV exposure.

Recognize what makes up a healthy weight loss program. Individuals have all sorts of options that promise to help them lose weight, but that doesn’t mean each of those options is safe and/or effective. For example, the American Academy of Family Physicians notes that the typical fad diet is unhealthy and does not result in sustainable weight loss. Some such diets can even be dangerous to your overall health. The USDA describes healthy weight loss programs as those that consist of reasonable and realistic weight loss goals. A reduced-calorie, nutritionally-balanced eating plan is another feature of a healthy weight loss program. The struggle millions of individuals experience in regard to maintaining a healthy weight has led public health agencies to characterize overweight and obesity as a major public health crisis.
·
According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, nearly one in three adults in the United States are overweight, while more than 40 percent are considered obese. Data from Statistics Canada indicates individuals also are struggling with their weight in Canada, where nearly 27 percent of adults can be classified as obese and more than 36 percent are classified as overweight.
· Change your lifestyle, not just your diet. A successful weight loss strategy will help individuals develop lifestyle habits that help them maintain healthy weights. Fad diets and other quick fixes only provide short-term weight loss, and the USDA urges individuals to avoid programs that they “go on” and “go off” at predetermined intervals. Longterm, healthy weight loss is achieved by changing one’s lifestyle, which requires a permanent commit ment to physical activity and healthy eating.
