When my granddaughter, Brooklyn, was about 9yrs old she got hooked on this movie. I even had to record it so she could watch it whenever she wanted. The movie inspired her to learn how to make christmas cookies. We would use all kinds of cookie cutters and make all different colors of icing for our sugar cookies. I love this movie and I am looking forward to watching it again with my granddaughter and making more cookies with her this year.

1. RECYCLED RUBBER Black tread covers made of recycled rubber are remarkably resistant to shocks, inclement weather, humidity, ultraviolet rays, oil and mildew. They are easy to install, maintain and store. They can, however, be quite heavy.
FIBRE Available in an array of colours and patterns, polypropylene fibre can be bought in mats or rolls. While this product can stand up to heavy traffic, it should be treated against UV rays. To prevent seepage, it has waterproof backing made of vinyl or rubber, which increases its durability.
3. COIR This material, made of coconut fibre, typically comes in a natural ecru colour. It can give your exterior a unique look and works best on wood and concrete surfaces. The downside? Coir tends to retain water and dust. In addition, if not installed well, it may become loose over time. HOLIDAY PET GUIDE
Story By: Licensed Photo: Submitted, Unsplash.com
The holiday season is a special time of year. Many factors combine to make the holiday season so unique and festive, and that includes all the effort people put into deco rating their homes.
Much thought is giving to holiday light ing arrangements and which tree to buy, but it's equally important to consider pets when decorating. Many com mon household pets are naturally curious, and that curiosity can make it difficult to decorate safely come the holiday season. But various pet-proofing strategies can ensure holiday decorations
and displays aren't compromised by fourlegged friends this season.
EQUALLY
Secure the Christmas tree. Much like other residents of the home, pets may be mesmerized by a glowing Christmas tree. Pets may sniff around the tree or investigate it closely, which can increase the chances that it tips over. That poses a significant safety hazard and underscores the im portance of using a sturdy stand. Fastening the tree to a wall, much like one might do with a television that isn't mounted, adds a further layer of protection from tip-overs.
Block off the base of a live tree. Live
IMPORTANT TO CONSIDER PETS WHEN DECORATING .
22 Paris Life FEATURE
trees need water to stay green and keep their needles throughout the season. That water could prove enticing to thirsty pets. Drinking water from a tree stand could increase the risk of the tree tipping over and the water could upset the stomach of pets if the tree was treated with pesticides prior to being brought home. When decorat ing with a live tree, make sure the base of the tree where the water will be is blocked off. A small fence around the tree could keep curious pets away. The room where the tree is located should be locked or inaccessible when pets are home alone.
Inspect and conceal light wires. Wires can become frayed over time, and that could pique pets' curiosity. Lighting wires should always be inspected prior to decorating and frayed or damaged wires should be thrown away, even if it means replacing lights. If wires are still sturdy, conceal them along the base of the wall using a cable concealer, which prevents pets from chewing on them. Avoid lighting candles. Candles should not be lit in homes with pets. Even candles on shelves that are seem ingly beyond pets' reach can be hazard ous, as pets, especially cats, have a way of accessing spaces they seemingly shouldn't be able to reach. Use electric candles in lieu of traditional ones.
Speak to a vet about seasonal plants and flowers before bringing them into the home. Pet owners can speak with their veterinarians before bringing poinsettias, holly and other seasonal plants and flowers into their homes. Some pets could suffer allergic reac tions if they eat certain seasonal plants, so it's best to err on the side of caution and speak to a vet before including live plants and flowers in decorative displays.
Decorating is part of the holiday sea son. Pet owners must exercise an extra bit of caution to keep their pets and homes safe when decorating during this special time of year. u

for safe holiday entertaining in pet-friendly households Tips
The holidays are a time to spend with friends and family. Celebrating and entertaining are large components of what makes Thanksgiving, Christmas, Chanukah, and New Years festivities so enjoyable. Holiday hosts with pets must consider companion animals when planning the festivities. The holiday season brings added dangers for pets. The American Veterinary Association notes that, by keeping hazards in mind, pet owners can ensure their four-legged friends enjoy the season as much as everyone else.
• Secure the tree. Securely anchor the Christmas tree so that it won't tip over on anyone, including ram bunctious pets. Also, stagnant tree stand water can grow bacteria. If a pet should drink the water, it may end up with nausea or diarrhea. Replenish the tree basin with fresh water daily.
• Skip the candles. When creating mood lighting, opt for electronic or battery-powered lights instead of open flames. Pets may knock over candles, and that can be an instant fire hazard.
• Keep food out of reach. Situate food buffets beyond the reach of hungry and curious animals. Warn guests to promptly throw out their leftovers so that dogs and cats do not sneak away with scraps that may cause stomach upset or worse. Real Simple magazine warns that fatty foods can promote pancre atitis - a potentially dangerous inflammation of the pancreas that produces toxic enzymes and causes illness and dehydration. Small bones can get lodged in a pet's throat or intestines as well.
• Avoid artificial sweeteners. Exercise caution when baking sugar-free desserts. The artificial sweetener xylitol can cause dogs' blood pressure to drop to danger ously low levels. Xylitol is found in some toothpastes and gum, so tell overnight guests to keep their toiletries secure to avoid accidental exposure.
• Be cautious with cocktails. If the celebration will include alco holic beverages, the ASPCA says to place unattended adult beverag es where pets cannot reach them. Ingested alcohol can make pets ill, weak and even induce comas.
• Be picky about plants. Mistletoe, holly and poinsettias can be dangerous in pet-friendly households. These plants can cause gastrointestinal upset and may lead to other problems if ingested. Opt for artificial replicas instead. If guests bring flowers, confirm they are nontoxic to pets before putting them on display.
Holiday hosts should factor in pet safety when they open their homes to guests.
• Watch the door. Guests going in and out may inadvertently leave doors open. In such instances, pets who get scared or are door dashers may be able to escape the house. Put a note by the door to watch for escaping pets.
• Designate a safe space for pets. If the holiday hustle proves too much for cats, dogs, birds, and more, give the pet a safe, quiet spot away from the crowds. u

Holiday gifts for four-legged family members
Holiday shoppers who are busy making lists and checking them twice should make sure they don't overlook the family pet. Christmas has gone to the cats and dogs, as a greater number of people include their compan ion animals when selecting gifts each year.
A study by OnePoll conducted by Rover.com, the nation's largest network of dog sitters and walkers, found that 95 per cent of pet owners have bought holiday gifts for their pets. Gifts can range from everyday needs, like food and treats, to more lavish extravagances like spa treat ments.
Pet owners who plan to get their pets gifts this year may want to consider some of the emerging pet trends as they browse wares and services. The Balance, a business, career and industry information site, says pet industry trends point toward these segments seeing growth.
Natural pet products
Just as people are interested in pro tecting the health of the planet and their own personal health, so, too, are they extending this concern to companion animals. Natural pet products, which can include natural flea and tick remedies, ho listic foods, organic items, and all-natural grooming products, can make great gifts.
Specialty pet services
The American Pet Products Associa tion says the demand for high-end pet grooming and other services is substantial. In addition, personalized training, behav
ioral consulting, portrait photography, dog sitting, and upscale spa treatments like pet Reiki and massage are booming.
Mobile pet grooming
Mobile pet grooming has become the norm in many areas. Mobile pet grooming can reduce the potential stress on ani mals, and tends to be very convenient for customers, particularly seniors and others who have mobility issues.
Beyond these growing trends, pet owners have a bevy of other ideas from which to choose. Here are just a few dif ferent suggestions:
• tests to detect pets' DNA and trace breed and ancestry,
• interactive puzzles to keep pets en gaged and banish boredom,
• stylish storage baskets for pet toys,
• hidden cat litter or dog crate items that camouflage commonly used pet items,
• heated pet bed for cozy nights and mornings, and
• signature vests, coats and sweaters to look good and remain comfortable.
Pet gifts are popular this time of year, ensuring all members of the family have a treat to open. u

IDEAL FOR HOLIDAY STITCHING FUN
Story By: Nanalee Nichols Special To Paris Life Magazine
One of Sunny Wright’s earliest memo ries is of sitting watching her mother and her father doing embroidery work. A construction worker, her father found it helped his arthritic hands and relieved stress.
Later she watched her grandmother doing tatting, but the lace making was just too tedious.
Embroidery though, that was fun. She still has some marvelous examples of her meticu lous stitchery.
At about 15, Sunny’s mom taught her to crochet and a lifelong hobby was born.
Incredibly delicate baby bonnets accented with tiny flowers, dozens of chemo caps given away to cancer patients, doilies and table run ners have been created and most usually given away.
She taught herself to sew on a machine and earned money sewing clothing for others.
She made one daughter’s beautiful wedding dress and the bridesmaids dresses too.
Sunny’s life hasn’t always been easy. She had three girls and a boy to raise, some times by herself. She altered an attorney’s suit to help pay for a divorce once!
She worked at many jobs, at hardware stores
, sign installation companies, nutritionist, even driving a truck moving mobile homes. She worked years for the Deport Times newspaper and at Deport City Hall.
Her petite five feet height may have seemed inadequate to some but her energy and vibrant love of life always kept her moving forward.
And always when the day was done those small capable hands were busy crocheting . There are light silk necklaces for those who can’t wear metals.
There were special table clothes or table run ners as wedding or birthday gifts and when she wasn’t crocheting she might be embroidering tea towels, crocheting dish towels made like a skirt with a dress top that fastened on fridge and stove handles or some other treasure.
Treasures they are. While a few people see them as old fashioned others still find joy in the tedious, priceless handwork and the cheerful results.
One of her biggest endeavors was crochet ing 21 table decorations for her granddaughter’s wedding. That project had her fingers doing their magic during lunch hours at work, at meet ings, just any time there was a chance.
Paris Life 29
In addition to full time jobs Sunny is an elder in the First Presbyterian church of Deport and secretary treasurer of the Deport Volunteer fire department.
The happiest part of her life may well be when she met James Whitney at Heath in Dallas and married him. They had twenty good years together on their lovely, oak studded property before cancer took him.
She’s moved a lot with her dad being a structural steel worker, welder and pipe fitter. He worked on everything from skyscrapers to missile bases. She and her mom and big sister Pat would follow along.
Sunny first remembers living in Michigan. She started 1st grade in Texas, then they moved back to Michigan. They lived in Kentucky, southern Ohio, Michigan again. She actually graduated from a high school in Ohio.
Sunny is 81 but she neither looks it or acts it. People are amazed at her work ethic and energy. This year she’s actu ally selling the dish towels that fasten on refrigerators and stoves . She wants to put some beef produced by Four Winds Ranch in the freezer and hopes to use the money from sales for that. Anyone interested can text her at 903-7152810 or contact her on Facebook. The tea towels make great Christmas presents or guest gifts and are practical as well as decorative. They are $20. Prices on other things she makes can be asked about but nothing is expensive.
One of the difficulties Sunny has is Zorro. Yes, Zorro the big brindle and white cat who would rather sit on her crochet yarns than let Sunny crochet. Fre quently she has to wait til the cat is nap ping elsewhere before starting her crochet.
She doesn’t only do simple patterns, she’s capable of doing intricate patterns with ruffles, or butterflies. Some or ecru or white, others in bright colors. But one thing is sure. They are done perfectly. And “bobbles” will be unraveled and redone correctly.
Sunny Ann Whitney is a woman much like her name. Bright, good natured, cheerful and generous to a fault her cro chet reflects her personality. u

CALL OF DUTY: MW II
Release Date: Oct. 28, 2022
Tune in just about anywhere on the internet, and you’re going to find mixed reviews for “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.” A lot of the mixed part comes from Infinity Ward’s desire to return the movement and mechanics of the “Call of Duty” franchise to the old ways. Your top streamers complain that the movement is gone, but the movement of the latest games was based on broken mechanics that could be exploited. Now, you’ve got to hit your shots.
I’ve played the game since it was in beta, and I’ll tell you this: The campaign is fantastic. The graphics are beautiful. The game is fun to play. Go into multiplayer, and the challenges that come with Skill Based Matchmaking are there — you will play people around your skill level and it will feel sweaty — but there is a lot of fun to had as well. Camo grinds will take a bit of time. Unlocking weapon trees is super fun. This is the “Call of Duty” we’ll have for two years, and it’s the stage for launching Warzone 2.0.

TRIBUTE
Tony Clark
This year we would like to pay tribute to to Paris' beloved Santa, Anthony Harold "Tony" Clark who passed away unexpectedly at the age of 63.
Clark had volunteered thousands of hours as Santa after receiving his first dose of the Christmas spirit in 1965 when he got his chance to play Santa in a school play when he was six-years-old.
“We had so much fun at that Christmas party,” Clark re called in 2019. He had followed in his father's footsteps as a Santa helper.
Clark traveled far and wide to bring the joy of Christmas and Santa to as many people as he could, often traveling hundreds of miles in all directions to perform as Saint Nick across Texas and the Midwest.
Clark performed as Santa in Kansas City, Oklahoma City, Tyler, Mt. Pleasant, Sherman and Denison, among many other places, and often visited homes upon request.
"I've done it all my life," he said in a 2019 interview. "I think Santa is more than a big, fat guy putting on a red suit and being jolly. I love to give, and I love children. I love the hap

piness and smiles I see from kids. It makes it all worthwhile to me. Not just anybody can do that, I don't think."
In addition to his duties as Santa, Clark retired from the operations department of Kimberly-Clark Corp. and served with Kiwanis International and on the board of directors for Lamar and Red River counties Crime Stoppers. Other organizations Clark was involved with include, the Paris Traffic Commission, Toys for Tots and Adopt-A-Cop. Clark was also a volunteer fireman for the Paris Fire Depart ment and a member of His Place Fellowship Church. After the COVID-19 pandemic left Clark unable to leave his home at Stillhouse Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for many months, his cousin, Patti Torres, organized a parade bringing the community to Clark. Many in the community expressed their admiration for Clark and his efforts following news of his passing, flooding Facebook with comments of praise.
"He's just a great guy. He makes a great Santa Claus," para medic and parade participant Bryan Mackey told The Paris News in 2020. "I think he's been doing it for so many years

because he loves the kids. He likes to see their faces light up. That was his motivation."
Dozens of public comments were posted to The Paris News Facebook page, giving condolences and wellwishes to Clark's family.
“Tony had the natural smile, rosey cheeks, and could make his belly shake with his hearty laugh,” Virginia Utz wrote on The Paris News Facebook page. “He will certainly be missed.” "He was such an amazing person, always enjoyed doing for others, and touched so many lives as he was the Best Santa and he will be missed by so many!" Allen wrote. "It's heartbreak ing but he's no longer in pain, God has taken him home! Prayers for his family."
Clark's family addressed the public in his obituary.
"Tony loved his family and friends dearly, and all the kind words and remembrances spoken about him are cherished," family members wrote. "Heaven gained an angel in Tony Clark. He will be missed."
In honor of Tony Clark a Memo rial Christmas Parade and Gift Drop is being set up by Monica Helm on Facebook. She is planning to get as many Santas as she can for the three different parades scheduled across paris. On December 10 at 10 a.m. there will be three glorious parades going simutaniously around Paris, Texas. The first parade will begin at North Lamar and drive through Still house, Brentwood, Paris Healthcare, Paris Chalet, and Legend Healthcare. LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE BEFORE MEN
Recently our church had some electrical work done on the sign that sits in front of our church. The lights had stopped working so electricians came out and repaired it. Now we have a beautifully lit sign for everyone to see as they pass the church. As I found myself excited about the sign, a scripture from the bible seemed to ring in my mind. Matthew 5:16…..Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
When we drive down the streets of Paris, TX at night, we see hundreds of lit-up signs advertis ing businesses, products and services. Some are incredibly bright and some barely flicker. Some are big and bold, and some are more subdued, but every one of them advertises something.
In the same way, every person is like a neon sign shining in the darkness, and every one of us communicates a message to anyone who notices. Jesus tells us that we have the opportunity to design our life’s sign and determine how it shines for people to see. In fact, our choices about the design make a tremendous difference for today
and all eternity because He has chosen us to “ad vertise” the grace, mercy, kindness and purposes of our Heavenly Father!
All of us have made choices that have shaped our lives and the signs we’ve designed, but God gives us the opportunity to make a new design if we need to. By His grace, we can trust Him to transform our hearts so that far more of His love shines through. Some of us need to do some major design work; some of us need to screw in a new bulb or two. Our old church sign definitely needed some updates and upgrades because it was not shining at all. It was not functioning as it should in darkness. It is now working properly and purposefully because proper adjustments repairs were made.
All of us need to take a few minutes and reflect on what we’ve been advertising and what we want on our signs. Is your message clear and il luminated! Is it pleasing to God?
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven…… Matthew 5:16 . u

The effect of sugar on your body
The human body is not designed to consume a lot of sugar. Sugar is Hepatotoxic; meaning it is a substance that converts directly into Fat. Any thing that can change directly into Fat by the liver has extreme adverse side effects on the proper functioning of a human body.
What is even more disturbing is that most of this sugar consumption is in the form of High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS). The sad part is that the human body is not made to consume excessive sugar in the form of Fructose since it metabolizes Fructose differently than sugar.
For the effective functioning of the body, it is recommended by experts that sugar consumption should be limited to 25 grams per day. This consumption includes sugar from whole fruits as well.
However, sugar is not only hidden in just our visible treats like cakes, cookies, sodas, and candies. But it is also secretly packaged into canned vegetables, bread, processed meats and condiments like ketchup, salad dressings, and dipping sauces.
These Metabolic diseases include:
• Overload of Sugar damages Liver: Sugar overload in the body has the same impact as too much alcohol consump tion has on the Liver. It severely damages the Liver and its functions resulting in Liver damage.
• Over Consumption of Sugar helps Cancer cells to multiply quickly: Sugar feeds cancer cells and helps can cer cells with its proliferation into other cells of the body. Thus promoting cell division and accelerating its speed, which results in spreading cancer faster in the body.
• Sugar overload in your body messes up your Appetite Control System: Your appetite control system in the body regulates your metabolism. Fructose overdose suppresses insulin levels, which turns on the hunger hormone called "Ghrelin." As a result of it, "Leptin" (a satiety hormone) production is decreased in the body, which thus causes us to eat more.
•
Macadamia nuts, and Salmon.
• Drink Water instead of Sodas: Clean water flushes out the toxins in the body. It helps the body to neutralize the impact of sweetened beverages or sugar overload in your
Research shows that sugar is the pri mary dietary substance responsible for Obesity and in the develop ment of several chronic diseases. Today an average American consumes 17.4 teaspoons of sugar per day.
It is because food manu facturers use High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) instead of real sugar in processed food, as HFCS is cheaper than real sugar.
Thus helping food manufacturers with mass production of canned and processed foods on a larger scale.
According to research conducted at the University of Califor nia, the body can safely metabolize 6 teaspoons of sugar every day. Anything beyond it turns into body fat which results in several metabolic diseases that people are struggling with today.
• Sugar overload causes an increase in Uric Levels: Increased Uric levels in the body cause heart disease and kidney disease.
• Overdose of Sugar causes Metabolic Dysfunction: Metabolic Dysfunction includes high blood pressure, elevated triglycerides, decrease in HDL, but an increase in LDL cholesterol levels. It also increases abdominal Obesity and leads to weight gain.
• Sugar overdose leads to developing Brain's "Hedonic Pathways": It means sugar causes a form of addiction in the body. This addiction is not very different from depen dency on alcohol due to its overconsumption.
• High Fructose Diet can Cause Alzheimer's disease: There is research that is linked to overdose of sugar, caus ing Alzheimer's disease and Dementia.
body. The color of your urine should be pale yellow, and the bathroom visits should be 7 to 8 times a day.
• Add fermented foods to your diet: The good bacteria in these foods help with digestion and relive the Liver by de toxifying it by lessening the Fructose burden on the Liver. Examples of such foods include organic yogurt, fermented vegetables, Kim chi, natty, and Kefir.
• Use safer alternatives to sugar to sweeten food: As long as the intake of sugar is kept under 25 grams on a daily basis, honey and Stevia are comparatively natural and have a significantly higher beneficial effect on the body as compared to other over the counter alternatives.

AMSTERDAM
was only ten minutes into “Amsterdam” when about Christian Bale’s character, the unfailing
optimism, the hair...no, it’s his artificial eye that keeps popping on the floor when he’s bumped. Well, his
hair has a mind of its own too. Hasn’t he played this guy before?
None of this is surprising given that David O. Russell is writer, director and producer–just as he was with “Silver Linings Playbook,” “American Hustle” and “I Heart Huckabees.” “Amsterdam” is what you might call a raucous comedy, as were those films just named. Really, who could forget Bale’s carefully tended hairpiece in “Hustle.” If this was the Forties, Russell’s films would be called ‘screwball comedies.’
This is the third film Bale has done with Russell, who despite all his controversial behavior, always manages to accrue a sizable number of nominations when award season comes around. And that must be the reason Russell can fill his casts with such a surfeit of names like Zoe Saldana, Rami Malek, Anya Taylor-Joy, Michael Shannon, Mike Myers, Chris Rock et al, even Robert De Niro (who comes on at the end as the common thread).
(Taylor Swift has a few lines at the beginning but is quickly thrown under a cab. One could call her part a walk-on and- under. Alessandro Nivola is incredibly funny playing a new detective who just wants to shoot something.) But it’s Bale, Margot Robbie and John David Washington who carry the film. Half Jewish Burt Berendsen (Bale) and African-American Harold Woodsman (Washington) are friends, badly injured in WWI and cared for by a beauty of a nurse named Valerie Voze (Robbie). She picks shrapnel out of all
her patients and uses it to make little sculptures. After the war is over, the three move to Amsterdam, vowing to live there and play forever. But forever doesn’t last. Burt has to return to New York to try to open a medical practice. Harald and Valerie fall in love, but their love is not to be. Harold returns to New York and law school. Valerie disappears. It’s not until the guys run into each other one night, that all hell breaks loose. Burt, whose practice is reduced to an alley, where he treats many of his veteran friends, runs into Harold and the two go for a drink. They learn (from Swift) that General Meekins (her father), the veteran who was supposed to be the guest speaker at the annual veteran’s event, has been poisoned. She’s sure of it and asks Burt to do a stealth autopsy in the City Morgue. Burt confirms it. He and Harold rush to tell his daughter, only to see her pushed under a passing cab, while they’re identified as the perpetrators. They need help and they need it fast. That search takes them to wealthy textile heir Tom Voze and his wife, Libby (Malek and Joy). There, Burt and Harold discover that Tom’s sister is Valerie Voze, and they have been keeping her home and semi-conscious, so she won’t run off and do something stupid–like announcing she’s a democrat.
Tom Voze is mysteriously keen on Burt getting a close friend of the general’s, a highly-decorated marine Gil Dillenbeck (De Niro) to speak. As a matter of fact, Voze and his friends will pay him to give a speech they’ll give him. Yes, there ‘s something rotten in Denmark.
I am always surprised by the disparity in the roles Bale chooses, from “American Psycho” and the darkest “Batman” ever, to Irving Rosenfeld, the hustler from Long Island in “American Hustle.” He nails his character every time. And David Russell loves him. Look for nominations. See you at the movies. u

A marriage proposal is one of the most emotional moments in anyone’s life, but the hectic pace of today’s world leaves little room creativity. And yet, if there is one occasion that should be unforgettable, it has to be your marriage proposal. Christmas, another occasion that celebrates love, may just be the perfect time to take the plunge.
Don’t underestimate the impact of the traditional, but still entirely touching, gesture of talking to your bride’s parents before you ask her for her hand in marriage. Of course, this is just a symbolic ritual that no longer consists in asking them for her hand. Rath er, it is all about asking her family to accept you into theirs. They will most likely be honoured to have the question put to them and will hopefully be inspired to welcome you with open arms.
If you’re going for a memorable event, the key to your success when popping the big question is to surprise your future fiancée. This kind of proposal

should be unexpected, romantic, origi nal, and personalized. Whether you choose an intimate or public occasion, it has to be unforgettable. There’s nothing like a romantic outing for two to set the mood, with a gourmet meal, a glass of champagne, and a beautiful bouquet of her favourite flowers. All you have to do is find a few heartfelt words to soften the heart of your beloved.
The important thing to remember is to speak from the heart. Don’t be afraid to show your vulnerability and sensitivity as you tell her why you hope she’ll choose to spend the rest of her life with you.
