o A liberal arts degree focusing on all forms of leisure activities in the contexts of recreation, sport, and tourism  •

o This degree focuses on the performance aspects of physical activity, exercise, health, and sport •
Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology (BScKin)
o This degree focuses on how exercise and physical activity affect health and the human body in the context of both the biological and physical sciences •
Bachelor of Physical Education/Bachelor of Education (BPE/BEd) o A combined degree, focusing on teaching physical education. It is offered jointly with the Faculty of Education (both elementary and secondary routes offered)

EXERCISE SCIENCE
Develop skills to facilitate active living for special populations. This field includes working with people who experience developmental and/or physical disabilities. It emphasizes acquiring instructional and leadership skills in recreation, physical activity, fitness, and sport programs for individuals across the life, abilities and environmental spectra.
What makes an athlete a high performance athlete? This field focuses on the holistic development of the high performance athlete – engaging both body and mind. It includes coaching (from a science, performance, or management perspective), strength and conditioning, sport psychology, and athletic therapy/injury prevention and rehabilitation.
Keeping society healthy and active means starting in childhood. This area focuses on the importance of play, recreation, and sport in the development of children and youth, both in the community and in the school system.
Interested in how the human body works? This area focuses on the study of the human body and the impacts of physical activity and exercise on health and fitness. It includes the study of anatomy, exercise physiology, biomechanics, biochemistry, and motor control.

RECREATION, TOURISM, AND LEISURE STUDIES
This area focuses on understanding the importance of physical activity and other lifestyle behaviours related to fitness, health, and well-being over the life span. This field includes health promotion, health education, and behavioural medicine which integrates the biological, social, psychological, and behavioural dimensions of health and illness.
Interested in the business of recreation and sport organizations? This field includes leadership, organizational behaviour, marketing, and program planning for recreation and sport organizations (from community-based and not-for- profit to professional sport.) It may include recreation facility management, volunteer management, event planning, marketing, and others.
This field includes the study of outdoor recreation, mountain recreation; the history, planning, and sustainability of local and national parks, tourism (sport tourism, nature-based tourism, adventure tourism, destination tourism), as well as the study of areas such as culture, dance, music, art, and travel as leisure activities.
What role does society play in sport and recreation? This field includes such areas as the role of gender, race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, etc. and their impacts on both society and individuals’ experiences in sport, recreation, and leisure activities.

Play Around the World What if you started a game and the whole world joined in? Play Around the World is a service learning course offered by the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation, designed to provide a global education and cross-cultural experience to University of Alberta students in the area of physical activity and play. On this exciting, mind-expanding, three-month course, multi-disciplinary teams of senior undergraduate and graduate students form learning communities to work with agencies in Thailand, Cambodia and Northern Canada.

PERCS - YOUR STUDENT SOCIETY PERCS stands for Physical Education and Recreation Council of Students, but to us it’s fun central! This is the heart of student activities in the faculty and a great place to be part of one of the most active, welcoming environment to make friends.
Each year we host the best ice-breaker on campus - Rookie Camp. It’s a weekend away for all new students – no initiation or hazing! – where we get together, play games and do other activities. CAMPUS RECREATION AND HIGH PERFORMANCE ATHLETICS Whether you’re a high-performance athlete or simply love to be active, we have great programs you can join! Our academic ventures are interwoven with our athletics and recreation services programs. Our researchers – whether faculty members or students – often work with high-performance or recreational athletes to conduct research. Coaches instruct sport-related classes; Recreation Services staff teach physical activity classes - and all take place in well-appointed facilities managed by Operations. Recreation Services offers a choice of over 500 sport and fitness programs, led by qualified instructors, in a welcoming environment where you’ll make friends and be at the epicentre of one of the most social places on campus. You can also join intramural sports or become a member of a student-led sport club. Golden Bears and Pandas Athletics is Canada’s premier varsity high performance athletics and is home to 23 team and over 500 student-athletes. The University of Alberta competes in the sports of Basketball, Cross-Country Running, Curling, Football, Golf, Ice Hockey, Rugby, Soccer, Swimming, Tennis, Track & Field, Volleyball and Wrestling.
