What is a Lambda Sensor? The Lambda Sensor measures the engine’s air-tofuel ratio allowing the ECU to adjust fuel injection according to whether the mixture is running rich or lean. The Lambda Sensor is able to monitor the air-to-fuel ratio by measuring the amount of oxygen in the airflow. The amount of air in the air-fuel mixture is then adjusted in the combustion chamber, this in turn reduces emissions. As emission regulations tighten more cars are being fitted with 2 Lambda Sensors – one before the catalytic converter and one after – to deliver even more accurate measurements.

Possible causes of failure:
✘ Irregular idling
✘ Element damaged due to exhaust gas heat
✘ Loss of engine power
✘ Vibration from exhaust damaging wire connectors
Common Fault Codes P0131 02 Sensor Circuit Low Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 1) P0134 02 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
It is important to remember that even when fault codes are returned the whole system will need to be checked. Fault codes are just an indication of the problem and may not point to the exact part at fault!
