Dear Friends, As the Mayor of the City of New Orleans, I would like to welcome you to the 2022 Holidays New Orleans Style celebration that honors the unique traditions of New Orleans. Holidays New Orleans Style, hosted annually by French Quarter Festivals Inc. and New Orleans & Company, is one of our City’s signature events that we are proud to bring back for our residents and visitors. I encourage everyone to experience all of the planned activities that include decorating Jackson Square until we celebrate Twelfth Night as the Krewe de Jeanne d’Arc parades through the French Quarter. I also invite you to visit Celebration in the Oaks, laugh and play as you make your way through Waldorf Wonderland, take a sleigh ride at the NOLA Christmas Fest, and revel in many other holiday fun activites for all ages around our city. We know that there is never a silent night in our city as many holiday traditions unfold New Orleans style. I hope that you enjoy this festive season by staying safe as you spend time with family and friends and remember to get vaccinated as this season approaches. I implore you to invest in our local small businesses, and to experience our French, Spanish, and Creole Christmas cuisines; dance to our live and local jazz music as you do the jingle bell rock; and remember all that we have accomplished through perseverance and resilience as we continue to move our city forward into 2023. Thinking warmly of each of you and wishing your family an extra measure of comfort, joy, and hope this holiday season and a wonderful new year! Sincerely,

Twelfth Night Transfer of the Light with Krewe of Krampus and Krewe de Jeanne d’Arc

Q 1/5/2023 | 8pm

Check website for ceremony location Free As Yule comes to an end and Carnival begins, the Krewe of Krampus which is the last parade of the year transfers the celebration spirit over to Krewe de Jeanne d’Arc which is the first parade of the Mardi Gras season. This ceremonial tradition gathers on January 5th and at the stroke of midnight when Twelfth Night begins the light is passed between these Krewe Captains ushering in Carnival. On January 5th both Krewes hold separate events. As the evening comes to a close, Krewe de Jeanne d’Arc makes their way over to the Krewe of Krampus event where they are welcomed with great pageantry. It is at the stroke of midnight that the light is passed from the Captain of Krampus from his glowing lump of coal to the celebratory candle held by the Captains of Jeanne d’Arc. After this formal ritual concludes the cutting and sharing of a king cake between Krewes initiates the celebration that Carnival has just begun.

RÉVEILLON MENUS

RÉVEILLON

AT NEW ORLEANS FINEST RESTAURANTS From the late 1800s to the early 1900s, New Orleans’ Creole families celebrated Réveillon (derived from the French word reveiller, which means “to awaken”) twice during the holidays. The first Réveillon came after Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve, when families returned from St. Louis Cathedral to break a daylong fast. This meal typically consisted of egg dishes, sweetbreads, and Creole specialties, such as daube glace. It often ended with a cake filled with a fruit confection, dripping with wine or rum, and topped with whipped cream. New Year’s Eve brought another Réveillon, usually shared among several families. This more elaborate meal featured eggnog, fancy pastries, meringues, sugar sculptures, and crystallized fruits. By late afternoon, families would return home to a light supper followed by a night of singing and dancing – with wine and whiskey for the gentlemen and cordials and liqueurs for the ladies. Today’s Réveillon is celebrated throughout the Holiday season in restaurants throughout the city. Menus combine ageless Creole cuisine with more contemporary New Orleans dishes, but the spirit of the past remains. In fact, some of our Réveillon restaurants – Commander’s Palace and Tujague’s – are more than 100 years old! Revel in nostalgia and join us for Réveillon – the authentic taste of Holidays New Orleans Style! Menus and pricing subject to change based on seasonal ingredient availability. Réveillon is a trademarked program of FQFI

RÉVEILLON ON THE ROCKS

HOLIDAY COCKTAILS: A NEW TRADITION The Réveillon dinner has been celebrated in homes and restaurants all over New Orleans since the 1850s. Local bartenders create both classic and original cocktails to celebrate the Réveillon one-sip-at-a-time. Beginning November 26th and continuing until the last toast on New Year’s Eve, and at some spots lasting through Twelfth Night (January 6th), visit the following establishments and say “Cheers to the Holiday Season” with a variety of spirited libations. Menus and pricing subject to change based on seasonal ingredient availability. Réveillon on the Rocks is a trademarked program of FQFI
