LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
It’s been quite a ride in time travel. A thriller ride full of ups and downs, of exploration and contradiction, of liberation and tradition. A resurgence of questioning morality and exposing human decadence, it Is without a doubt a trip through the most defining periods in life. However, viewing such things from a spectator’s point of view, you can’t help it but to pick a side and then become raptured in a whirlwind of emotions. In the effort to find answers to tomorrow, we came across more questions of today. Where we are headed? When you think of society through the decades, especially the most notable decades in music, who would have thought that a society known to be full of allure with courtesy and manners, would then turn rebel and decadent? In this special issue of FRAMED we approach a re-exploration of time and essence through years of music evolution, attempting to create a juxtaposition between past and present. We are in a constant search to a clearer understanding of what was, what is, and what will be. We’re in radical rapture of our existence... enjoy the ride with us.

PATRICIA LEE SMITH Born December 30, 1946 Patricia, better known as Patti, is an American singersongwriter, poet and visual artist. She was one of the most important and influential components of the punk rock movement in America, particularly in New York City, with her 1975 debut album called Horses. Patti Smith, Godmother of Punk, had a particular way in her music, creating a masterful fusion between poetry and rock. One of her most widely known songs, “Because the Night”, was co-written with Bruce Springsteen. She was named Commander of the Order des Arts et des Lettres by the French Minister of Culture in 2005 and two years later she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In November 2010 she won the National Book Award for her memoir Just Kids and was recipient of the 2011 Polar Music Prize. 77

He’s charming, he’s funny, he’s hungry, he’s tired, he’s sleepy...that’s jetlag for Vito De Luca, a fine curator/pilot of sky-high tasteful music. Obviously the term curator, in a way falls short; he doesn’t only curate masterful mixes but also produces and creates music equally as tasteful. His innate ability for fine music has allowed him to discover and explore new talent to collaborate with, creating nothing short than amazing work allowing new and past generations to reminisce of a time where music was much more thought out, much more heartfelt and less mechanical. Introducing French house with a clash of Balearic beats, progressive house, funk and nu-disco, Aeroplane creates a new standard that is sure to send you flying high up in the sky...after all, when you fly high with Aeroplane once, you willl be back for more.

2012
has been the year for electronic music, leaving no doubt that names such as Deadmau5, Afrojack, A-Trak, Flux Pavilion and Skrillex have been mentioned loud and clear all over the world. This year, Chicago was host of one of the most important music festivals of the year and was made an established pioneer of the iconocism Chicago already holds in dance and electronic music: the Spring Awakening Music Festival. Originally founded in 2008 at the Congress Theater in Chicago by React Presents and the Congress Theater, Spring Awakening has since outgrown the 4,800-person capacity venue after selling out two consecutive years in a row --it was time to take it to a whole new level. Spring Awakening Music Festival was the first longoverdue all dance music festival to ever hit Chicago, crowned home of house music. This two-day festival was to take place at the iconic Soldier Field’s Stadium Green, the same spot that hosted an all sold-out Deadmau5 even in 2010. However, due to popular demand, three additional stages were added to host some of the biggest names in dance music, including the three-time Grammy-winning Skrillex, Benny Benassi, A-Trak, Ferry Corsten, Markus Schulz, Morgan Page, Joachim Garraud, Designer Drugs, Nathan Scott, Afrojack, Moby, Flux Pavilion, Carl Cox, Laidback Luke, Diplo and the list goes on. However there were four acts that we particularly chose as our favorites.
