Welcome to the Leeds Arts Party! Our celebration of the arts at Leeds College of Art Expect a vibrant day holding host to talks from Lemn Sissay MBE, Cape Farewell and Arts Education advocate, Susan Coles. Take part in the creative workshops running all day, browse our arts market where you’ll find beautiful work for sale from the region’s finest artists and makers, and view our two exhibitions on display. Join the conversations on topics surrounding the arts, plus an open discussion ‘Over to You’ at the end of the day, where you will have the opportunity discuss the issues that are most important to you. The Leeds Arts Party is about exploring why the arts are not only important to education, but how they also benefit society and the world as a whole. The theme of sustainability has been woven into the day. We believe that in order to tackle the pressing global sustainability issues faced in our world today, we need a generation of innovative problem solvers. The lack of value placed on creativity in our schools today means that we are not equipping our children with the vital tools they need to make this world a better place tomorrow. We hope you find the day inspiring, and that our party will reignite your passion for the power the arts can hold.

Arts Market
Exhibitions
The Leeds Arts Party presents an Arts Market featuring the work from some of the regions most talented artists and makers.
We have two fantastic exhibitions on display for you at the Leeds Arts Party. These exhibitions both demonstrate the importance of the arts socially and environmentally.
Expect everything from jewellery, ceramics, prints, books and much more.
‘VisCom With’ Exhibition - Room 5 Students from BA (Hons) Visual Communication are showcasing their latest project screening short films and exhibiting work from this social design project developed in partnership with ‘Health for All’. Students have spent the past 10 weeks working together with local community groups under the ‘Health for All’ umbrella, developing and exploring dialogic processes and participatory practices. The end result is a collection of diverse visual representations of an organisation working with ‘local people to engage with and improve disadvantaged communities’. As well as an exhibition of work including films, newspapers, books and puppetry, there will be activities for all ages.
Many of these makers work with sustainable and recycled materials, prepare to be inspired.

With graduation from her degree in Visual Communication on the horizon; Julia has felt a kind of success that can be directly attributed to the inclusive nature of the arts.
1. ‘The Politics of Art’ Tom Bowes - 12pm Join BOGSAT (Bunch of guys/girls sat around talking) for some relaxed open discussions focused around our newly elected Governments ideas on the arts and their policies. What’s good? What’s bad? And what could we do better? Possibly quite a lot…
Join the Arts conversation!
4. Over to You! - 3pm Time to create your own conversations! We suspect there may be lots you want to talk about based on what you have experienced during your day at The Leeds Arts Party.
2. ‘What is the Catalyst?’ John Slemensek - 1pm Where does creativity come from, and where does it lead us? From education, to frustration, from eureka to the freak-out, from self-taught to mind fraught. Join John Slemensek, Director of Woolgather Art and explorer of the artistic lifestyle as he raises the discussion around the path of creativity.
