Hi, I’m Francesca Zanni
I’m a 25-year-old designer graduate born in Venice and currently living in Milano, Italy, where I studied. Whilst I consider myself a well-rounded designer, my skills are stronger in initial ideation and I’m passionate about research and new scenarios. I strongly think that designer thinking is about believing we can make a difference and positive impact in daily life of people how are opend to it. I also love f ocusing myself in prototyping and material production, with an ability to design around complex manufacturing constrains, however I enjoy pushing the boundaries. During theese years I usually focused my experiecens in comunication skills, taking care about communication and visibility of brands. When I'm not designing, I'm very involved in sports and all the outdoor disciplines, I really like travels and see nature and architecture. All my life is followed by music in all its type.

INFLATABLE MATTRESS FOR INFANTS
2ND YEAR MASTER DEGREE
How design can improve the growing process and relationship of siblings , keeping them safe? 12 - WEEKS GROUP PROJECT Politecnico di Milano
RESEARCH
CONTEXT
Safe Co-sleeping Research points at the benefits of co-sleeping in the fostering of closer relations between siblings as well as overall development of the child.
Safety to SIDS To ensure maximum safety a number of design considerations were made to reduce the risk of harm. A common SIDS (Suddent Infant Death Syndrome) cause is associated with improper crib construction/dimensions. The inflatable barriers aim to minimize this risk of entrapment and give parents more peace of mind.
User Centered Design In order to design a product that perfect fits with babies and parents needs, we started analizing the entire daily routine and activities of them. As soon we knew our objective, all the research was focused on collecting data usefull for the design of the features and interaction user-product.
Interview
As one of the main design process tool, we organized Interview direct to parents and friends of infant’s parents. Was very usefull and funny speak with the real user about the product he/she already use and which was their main fair.
From all the resarch we understand that most of the parents are pro co-sleeping of siblings but the want to be sure they are safe.
USER
Safe Co-sleeping
0-24 months infant The Ori is designed for multiple young babies in the the age group of a few months to two years. It’s especially designed for siblings close in age.
Parents The parents are the indirect user of the project. During all the phase of sleep of babies parents are direct the responsabilies so the aim is to let them be more quite and relaxed while their baby is safe.
INSPIRATION

Modularity Geometric form Fabric Texture Friendly colours
Sketch Ideation Sketching was an important step of Ori design process. I started exploring a number of solution covering a wide arrey of issues and market focusing on ideas related on versatility and modularity. The technology of hinge mechanism and then anthropometric misurement was taked in account as well at the same time the first prototype and mockup of hinge mechanism. I think that sketching brights out the essential of design.
CREATIVE EXPLORATION
Mockup The shape of the Squares was deeply studied and personal I focused myself on prototyping in order to test the movement.
DESIGN CHALLENGE
Partitions raised edges The Ori mattress is a sleeping solution for multiple children. Research points at the benefits of co-sleeping in the fostering of closer relations between siblings as well as overall development of the child. The Ori is intended to be extensible to accommodate two babies. The main feature of the Ori is the inflatable mattress layer that creates partitions raised edges
DESIGN CHALLENGE
Size Versatile Research of existing cribs on the market show that for especially young children additional padding is provided to reduce the total crib size. This is provided by the inflation of the Ori mattress. The mattress system has 5 configurations for different modes of use based on the age and number of users.
Playing area Furthermore, the extended mattress is also envisoned as capable of transforming into a small and secure play area for babies as you can see below.
MEET ORI
TECHNOLOGY DRIVEN
Physical,mechanical constrains
The inflatable section must inflate gradually and be configurable by the user and an appropriate inflation time must be ensured. Our objective was to minimize the complexity of the design, fabrication processes, time of inflation, weight and layer thickness. Material has to be compatibile with baby hygiene standards.
How
To realize this, the inflatable unit is comprised of two layers of Cotton coated with Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU). The cotton material is chosen both for comfort as well as to provide structural strength to the inflatable layer.
Breathable Ipoallergenic Waterproof Absorbent Washable
The layers are sealed with diamond shaped patterns that “program the bending connfiguration. The inflation is performed by two pumps that are regulated by electronic valves that direct the air to the different sections of the mattress. These components were chosen, not just for the accuracy, but also for the small size and noiseless operation.

This is the real barrier that protects against mites, bacteria and skin irritations and it is the place the baby sleeps. It is attached with the inflatable mattress by velcro. The 3D textile top has a 3D alveolar structure through which air circulates freely by evaporating liquids and humidity.
It was choosen the Cotton textile b gth, tenacity, low elasticity, machin Only cotton is too soft so the fiber Polyester give the strength to the l to abrasion and laceration.

WATER-SOAP SPRAY GUN NUZZLE
1ST YEAR MASTER DEGREE
Redesign a gardening water spray gun nuzzle for a domestic use. How a friendly nuzzle can be used also to clean? 12 - WEEKS GROUP PROJECT Politecnico di Milano
SCENARIO
Domestic use User The users are families in their holiday home, garden lovers . A simple routine of shampoing their dog or washing children’s hands.
Use Watering plants Washing hands and feet Shampoing the dog Time of use: 5/ 10min
Features Soap Tank integrated Adjustable Nozzle with no trigger water jet No slip grip Big refill hole Small&ergonomicproduct
Insight The Objective was to redesign an existing product improving its usuability and ergonomic aspects: this type of product has often an uncomfortable water trigger lever , or a big-separeted soap tank.
The Design driven was also the aesthetic : using colourfull materials and design a friendly product attractive for children.

RESEARCH
The culture of Moka ONLINE SURVEY After a total of 250 SURVEY sended we focused on European behaviours because seeing from the China’s survey we sent, Moka coffe is less used. 70% of italian have a Moka at home and they use it everyday. This type of coffee is deeply connected with the family break at home and hospitality. Moka machine are still an old product and the process takes too much time with the risk of burning. The domestic routine have been changing so user need also changed. Electric Moka doesn’t have success because the taste of the coffee doesn’t reach the quality level users expect.

Market Trends and new scenarios We deeply analyzed the markets trends of Coffe Machine but always with an innovative approach looking for a new Future scenario of sharing. People love to share coffè with family and friends : personalized taste could be an additional sharing moments with person you love.
Function driven Focus of our design was the functionality related to Technology. We studied and individuated the right parametres of temperatures and extraction pressures of the Traditional Moka so we could solve the problem of quality of ELETTRIC MOKA.
