Tupperware® SmartSteamer Visual Guide - 2010

PARTS FEATURES & BENEFITS

• The Steamer Base and the Cover have an inner shield not permeable to microwaves, so the microwaves bounce back to be directed to the water in the Water Tray. • The water in the Water Tray turns to steam which goes through the bottom of the Steamer Base. • The steam then cooks the food placed in the Steamer Base and the optional Colander.

Tupperware® SmartSteamer Visual Guide - 2010

HOW IT WORKS

• Very easy to use: fill water, place food, stack, steam – for extraordinary & gourmet results. • Truly steams all types of food in the microwave oven. • Steams from fresh or frozen vegetables & fruits without altering the look or texture. • Ideal to soften skin before peeling. • Colander is suitable for serving on the table when placed on reversed Cover. • Keeps food warm – leave hot water in Water Tray, or pour warm water to avoid prolongation of cooking process (advisable for green vegetables) – keeps food warm for up to 30min. • Colander allows stack-steaming and preparing an entire meal all at once. • Flavor your dishes by adding spices, herbs, to the water in the Water Tray. DO NOT add or substitute water with low fat stock, essential oil or wine. • Saves space compared to electric steamers. • Safe to manipulate and carry. • Easy to clean; dishwasher safe.

Tupperware® SmartSteamer Visual Guide - 2010

SMARTSTEAMER FEATURES & BENEFITS

Steaming as a method of cooking is thought to pre-date the discovery of fire, when foods were steamed over hot springs or stones. Asian cooking has always used steaming as a main cooking method, both for health reasons and because ovens are rare.

Efficient Cooking • Vegetables cook faster. • No need to use oil as you would have to if you roasted vegetables. • Easier washing up as no saucepans is required.

Wellness Cooking • Steaming allows cooking any type of food and is a well-known method for fat-free cooking. It also retains nutriments, fatty acids minerals and vitamins. • Steaming does not mean bland cooking. The colors are more vibrant, the texture stays firm, the natural flavors are better preserved and the herbs or condiments can develop their aroma fully. Add herbs or spices to the water to add a specific taste. You can also accompany your meals with sauces for a richer taste. • Steaming is perfect for the whole family – and a great way to introduce vegetables to children who will appreciate the festival of authentic colors and tastes on their plate.

FIELD TESTING COMMENTS

• Cooking in a microwave oven requires special precaution: make sure to read and respect the caution points in the leaflet and demoguides.

• Those cautionary pictograms are etched in the inside of the Cover to ensure that those safety points stay in the mind of the consumers. They are also printed on all printed materials and on a round leaflet placed on top of the SmartSteamer so it is the first thing consumers see when they receive the product.

Tupperware® SmartSteamer Visual Guide - 2010

SAFETY & CAUTION

• Fill the Water Tray to the 1¾-cup/400 mL fill line! • Ensure all parts are assembled correctly to obtain optimal results. • Set the microwave power on high (Max. 1,200 watts). • Do not steam for more than 25 minutes. • Let stand for 5 minutes after steaming.

The SmartSteamer is suitable for use only in the microwave. Do not use in the conventional oven and make sure to set multi-function ovens to “microwave only” .

Always ensure the Water Tray (4), Steamer Base (3) and Cover (1) and optional Colander (2) are correctly assembled. Never use the Colander (2) without the Steamer Base (3).

Always pour cold water into the Water Tray (4) and ensure it never goes empty. Make sure to fill to the 1¾-cup/400 mL fill line.

For subtle flavor, you can add spices or herbs to the water but never replace the water with wine, syrup, oil, juice, soup or fatty stock.

Tupperware® SmartSteamer Visual Guide - 2010

SAFETY & CAUTION

Place the product at least 2”/5 cm away from the walls & top of the microwave.

Do not exceed 1,200 Watts. If you are not sure of the power of the microwave you are using, refer to your owner’s manual or follow this simple test. In your microwave using 100% power, boil one cup (8 oz./ 250 mL) of room temperature water (approximately 75˚ F/24˚ C). – If your microwave oven is 900 watts or less, the water will boil in more than 2 minutes. – If your microwave oven is 900-1,200 watts, the water will boil in 1:35 to 2 minutes. – If your microwave oven is over 1,200 watts, the water will boil in less than 1:35 minutes. If that is the case, DO NOT use the SmartSteamer!

Do not cook for more than 25 min at a time. Let the product and the microwave oven cool down before re-using.

Do not overfill the Steamer Base (3) or the Colander (2) and ensure the Cover (1) is closed properly.

Never leave the product unattended while cooking.

Product and content will be hot after steaming. Always use oven gloves and lift the product by the handles of the Water Tray (4). Always remove the cover away from yourself using the two integrated handles.

Be careful when pouring out the remaining hot water from the Water Tray (4).

Always use a trivet under the product to protect your table.

Use only plastic tools to avoid scratching.

Tupperware® SmartSteamer Visual Guide - 2010

SAFETY & CAUTION

HOW TO CLEAN YOU TUPPERWARE® SMARTSTEAMER: •

Clean the product thoroughly after each use in the dishwasher or with a non-abrasive sponge.

Some staining may appear but this will not affect the performance of the product. It is recommended not to use staining spices such as curry to avoid discolouration.

To remove the mineral deposit that can be left from water in the Water Tray (4), boil white vinegar in a pan and pour in the tray (4), let stand for 30 min, pour out and scrub with a non abrasive sponge or brush.

Tupperware® SmartSteamer Visual Guide - 2010

CLEANING THE SMARTSTEAMER

Steaming food in the SmartSteamer is easy. For optimal results, follow these guidelines: – Choose ingredients that can be steamed, preferably of the season as they will contain more vitamins if freshly picked. – Frozen ingredients are a good alternative to fresh produce as they have high nutritional qualities. You can steam straight from frozen by adjusting cooking time (avoid thick sections). – Ensure there is some space in between foods to allow the steam to circulate. – Thicker foods may take longer to steam. For best results ensure all pieces are of similar size. – Trim the thick stems off cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli. – Marinating fish or meat prior to steaming or adding toppings such as condiments, seasoning or sauces will significantly enhance their appearance and flavour. – Place a leaf of lettuce under the fish for easier cleaning of the tray. – Let stand for at least 5 minutes after cooking. Leave the Tupperware® SmartSteamer closed until serving to keep the food warm. If you wish to stop the steaming process - recommended for green vegetables - pour out the remaining hot water. – Whenever you stop the microwave to verify the cooking, check the water level in the Water Tray (4) to ensure it is still at the 1 ¾-cup/400 mL line and add 1 minute of cooking time to allow the water to steam again. – Eggs in the shell, rice, pasta, pastry or crispy foods are not suitable for steaming in the Tupperware® SmartSteamer.

Tupperware® SmartSteamer “Hot & Steamy” • Fail-safe, easy to use • Breakthrough innovation in microwave-steaming technology. • Steams everything from vegetables, to tofu and fish. • Eat healthy, tasty food. • Save money on energy versus traditional stove steaming. • Sustainable for the environment (saves energy and lasts a lifetime).

Cover - Two tabs allow for safe handling of the cover after steaming. Specific & unique design shields the food from microwaves, for authentic steam cooking. Colander - Designed specifically for stack-steaming, in particular delicate and soft foods. Steamer Base - Base is perforated to allow steaming process. Specific & unique design shields the food from microwaves, for authentic steam cooking. Ideal for steaming any type of food. Water Tray - Two handles allow for safe handling after steaming. Minimum filling line indicates the exact amount of water to pour in the Water Tray before steaming (1 ¾-cup/ 400 mL).

HOW IT WORKS • The Steamer Base and the Cover have an inner shield not permeable to microwaves, so the microwaves bounce back to be directed to the water in the Water Tray. • The water in the Water Tray turns to steam which goes through the bottom of the Steamer Base. • The steam then cooks the food placed in the Steamer Base and the optional Colander. • Microwaves do not come in contact with food in the SmartSteamer.

SMARTSTEAMER FEATURES & BENEFITS • Very easy to use: fill water, place food, stack, steam – for extraordinary & gourmet results. • Truly steams all types of food in the microwave oven. • Steams from fresh or frozen vegetables & fruits without altering the look or texture. • Ideal to soften skin before peeling. • Colander is suitable for serving when placed on reversed Cover. • Keeps food warm – leave hot water in Water Tray, or pour warm water to avoid prolongation of cooking process (advisable for green vegetables) – keeps food warm for up to 30min. • Colander allows stack-steaming & preparing an entire meal all at once. • Flavor your dishes by adding spices, herbs, to the water in the Water Tray. DO NOT add or substitute water with low fat stock, essential oil or wine. • Saves space compared to electric steamers. • Safe to manipulate and carry. • Easy to clean; dishwasher safe.

BENEFITS OF STEAMING FOOD Steaming as a method of cooking is thought to pre-date the discovery of fire, when foods were steamed over hot springs or stones. Asian cooking has always use steaming as a main cooking method, both for health reasons and because ovens are rare.

Efficient Cooking • Vegetables cook faster. • No need to use oil as you would have to if you roasted vegetables. • Easier washing up as no saucepans is required. Wellness Cooking • Steaming allows cooking any type of food and is a well-known method for fatfree cooking.

Tupperware® SmartSteamer

Why is it so Smart?

First, unlike other microwave steamers, the revolutionary new SmartSteamer blocks microwaves from directly cooking the food. Instead, microwaves are directed to the Water Tray, causing the water to boil and the steam to rise for perfectly steamed food. Second, it’s very easy to use. Just add water to the Water Tray, vegetables or other foods to the base and cook. You can also steam two foods at once by placing one in the Colander and one in the Steamer Base. Third, steam cooking is one of the healthiest ways to prepare foods because it retains nutrients, fatty acids and vitamins. Food colors remain vibrant, textures stay firm and natural flavors are enhanced for exceptionally tasty dishes. Fourth, steam cooking in the microwave requires less energy than traditional methods. Less energy used means less impact to our environment. And finally, the elegant design and color make the Tupperware® SmartSteamer as beautiful for serving as it is to steaming.

Tupperware Smart Steamer! Can you put metal in the microwave? YES! And with the Tupperware Smart Steamer, it provides a fortress for your food. In the Smart Steamer, the microwaves don’t cook or even touch your food. It’s all done with steam! The nutrients stay in, the color stays in, and the TASTE stays in! Demo 1: Rinse fresh green beans and snap off the ends. Move to the Salad Spin N Save to remove excess water. Place 1/3 of the beans in a saucepan with water and cook until done. Place 1/3 of the beans in a glass bowl with water, and microwave until done. Place 1/3 of the beans in the Smart Steamer with water in the base and steam 8 minutes. Compare the color, texture, taste. Consider what you can’t see – the nutrients. Steamed veggies are better for you for two reasons: • Vitamins don’t wash away in the water • Steaming releases vitamins in many vegetables so that your body can use them. Other important points to consider: • It is truly harder to overcook veggies when you are steaming them. • Steamed veggies are great served hot, warm or chilled with a variety of interest ing dips and sauces. • Vegetables prepared in the Smart Steamer can be prepared ahead and kept warm over the steam. • Easy clean up! It’s dishwasher safe! Demo 2: Be creative – this is SO easy! Step one: go to www.epicurious.com and type in “steaming” in the search box. You will come up with 43 pages of ideas to assist you in your creativity. Think in levels: what can you do in the base? You are NOT limited to plain water! • Add fresh mint to the water and carrots above, steam for 8 minutes. Toss with butter and more mint that has been chopped in the Chop N Prep • Add garlic, onion, celery with other herbs and spices when steaming chicken or potatoes. • Fresh herbs. Tarragon or rosemary with baby red or fingerling potatoes aboveDand add some herbs with the potatoes too. • Seasonings – bay leaves, Old Bay seasoning, crab boil, Italian herb seasoning – all these and more can turn vegetables, chicken or fish from blah to brilliant. • Beer is a magical elixir when used to steam brats or shrimp. The colander: • To make clean up easy when cooking chicken or fish, line the colander with lettuce leaves. • Return to your scouting and camping days with dinner in a packet, but use banana leaves, parchment, or corn husks (hurray for tamales!) to wrap your meat or fish and veggies for a gourmet twist. • Use the steamer to prepare grains by lining the colander with cheesecloth. Mix in vegetables and add chicken or fish above for a complete meal. • Feeling down? Add fresh lemon slices or lavender to the water in the base, microwave for 4-5 minutes with the lid on the steamer, remove and open to inhale the delightful aroma, treat yourself to a mini facial, or open up sinuses.

At Tupperware, we never stop looking for ways to maximize your microwave. Microwave cooking is (as we like to prove, one party at a time) fast, energy efficient, easy and—yes!—actually delicious. And it just keeps getting better. This product gives you multiple ways to combine components to create a rice maker, pasta maker, steamer or multi-cooker. Multi-cooking is when you cook pasta, potatoes or other veggies in water inside the base/water reservoir (using microwaves), while foods in the shielded and shallow colanders stacked above are cooked with only the rising steam.

BE A MULTI-MASTER

BEST PRACTICES

The recipes in this booklet will give you a good idea of how to use each of the functionalities, but be sure to keep the white insert with the cooking reference chart as well. If you’re more loosey-goosey, here are some basics to guide you:

Multi-cooking means you’re adding pasta, potatoes or other veggies to the water in the base/water reservoir during steaming. Think small to medium-sized pastas like orzo, mini or medium shells, rigatoni, fusilli, macaroni, root vegetables, broccoli, cauliflower, peas, green beans and frozen veggies (not in a sauce).

• NEVER add oil, butter or any other fat to the water used for cooking pasta, cooking rice, steaming or multi-cooking. It could damage the base/water reservoir.

Rice/grains and dried beans aren’t recommended due to the more precise amount of water required for proper cooking, which is complicated by water and juices dripping down during steaming.

• Contents will be hot after cooking. Use oven gloves when removing the product from the microwave.

Follow the max fill lines engraved inside with the icons for the type of cooking you’re doing. Check out this artistry:

FOR RICE/GRAINS

Fill with combined water and grains to the max line with this icon.

FOR PASTA

Don’t exceed 1 lb./455 g of uncooked pasta, or the indent in the base. Fill with water to the max line with this icon.

FOR STEAMING

Fill to the max line with this icon for steaming. When multicooking, ensure that with the food added, the water level still doesn’t rise above the steaming max fill line.

The available capacity in the base/water reservoir is 3-cup/700 mL, so the amount you can cook in the bottom of the base/water reservoir is perfect for creating a hearty side dish for a dinner for two, or smaller sides for a dinner for three or four. Need more pasta? That’s the beauty of the Smart Multi-Cooker. Just cook it in the base/ water reservoir first and set aside before steaming or cooking additional ingredients, in whichever configuration works best for that meal.

• Microwave no more than 25 minutes at a time. Let the product and the microwave cool down before reusing.

• Always remove the shielded cover, the grains seal and the grains insert away from you so the steam is directed away from you. • Do not use abrasive, sharp or metal utensils. • All components are dishwasher safe. • Cooking times may vary, depending on the size and wattage of your microwave. Please consult your owner’s manual for more information. • For more detailed use and care tips, see the white product insert included with the product.

Tupperware Smart Multi-Cooker ®

Intelli-multicuiseur Tupperware Multiolla Inteligente Tupperware ®

Why it’s awesome: • Space saver. One handy tool that combines the functionality of three popular products: Tupperware® SmartSteamer, the Microwave Rice Maker and the Microwave Pasta Maker, all in one! • Mega maker. The pasta/grains base/ water reservoir features a 3-Qt./3 L capacity, for cooking up to 2½ cups of dry rice or 1 lb./455 g of dry pasta (see cooking chart in the product insert). This results in up to approximately 8 cups of cooked rice, or 6 to 8 cups of cooked pasta, depending on the size. • Multi-Cooker. Also has a super cool fourth function: multi-cooking. That means cooking pasta, potatoes or other veggies in water inside the base/ water reservoir (using microwaves), while foods in the shielded and shallow colanders stacked above are cooked with only the rising steam. It’s using multiple cooking techniques for a stacked meal with quick and delicious results. Note: grains such as rice, quinoa or farro are not recommended when multi-cooking.

• That’s 4 great products in 1!

®

VS the TupperWave® Stack Cooker

par rapport au Superpo-cuisson TupperOndes®

• While the TupperWave® Stack Cooker also cooks stacked levels of food, it’s doing so with one heat source (microwaves), so not cooking with multiple techniques at once. So when you’d prefer to steam a portion of the meal, the Multi-Cooker is better. • The Stack Cooker is better for stack cooking for larger families as the 3-Qt./3 L Casserole can cook grains, or a larger quantity of pasta or potatoes, while cooking meats and veggies in the Casserole levels above. • The Stack Cooker also has functionality that the Multi-Cooker does not: it’s freezer safe, you can use it to make Bundt cakes, and you can cook in all Stack Cooker Casseroles individually.

VS the Microwave Rice Maker and Microwave Pasta Maker

par rapport au Cuit-riz micro-ondes et au Cuit-pâtes micro-ondes

• The individual Microwave Rice and Pasta Makers offer a lower cost alternative for those still looking for those single solutions. Some may also like their smaller capacities for bringing along in the RV, using in dorm rooms, etc.

4-In-1! The Smart Multi-Cooker is a SmartSteamer, Rice Maker and Pasta Maker all in one. It saves valuable time, money and cabinet space

4-en-1!
