The Energy Project’s flagship product, peoplefuel is a scientifically-grounded curriculum that energizes people and transforms companies by helping them to more skillfully manage energy rather than time. Time is a finite resource, but energy can be systematically expanded, used more efficiently, and regularly renewed. In physics, energy is defined simply as the capacity to do work. When we have more energy available to us—more capacity—we can get more done, in less time, at a higher level of quality, in a more sustainable way.
Organizational change
Diminished levels of employee engagement and satisfaction
Lower innovation
Higher turnover rates
The pervasive complaint from people at all levels that they’re pushing themselves harder than ever but increasingly running on empty. Our modular approach allows participants to dive deeply into each source of energy in a variety of highly flexible configurations. With time to apply the learning between sessions, people are able to metabolize the content and work through challenges or questions that arise along the way. We deliver peoplefuel to groups of 15-30 people at a time. To help assure change that lasts, we offer a variety of reinforcement options and coaching between sessions to embed the Energy RitualsTM and address the inevitable resistance to change that arises along the way.

Our aim with individuals is to help them recognize the costs of energy-depleting behaviors they typically don’t think much about, and then to take responsibility for changing them, regardless of the external circumstances they’re facing. Our emphasis with organizations is helping them shift their focus from getting more out of their employees to investing more in them, so they’re freed, fueled, and motivated to bring more of themselves to work every day.

Energy is multidimensional in the human system. To perform at our best, we must fuel our energy across the four dimensions: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. At the conclusion of this work, individuals build Energy RitualsTM – highly specific behaviors addressing specific energy deficits – that become automatic over time and lead to higher levels of energy, resilience, focus, and motivation.

this module targets: energy health sustainability wellness
this module targets: communication resilience relationships
by the end of this module, participants will understand: • why physical energy is fundamental and how it influences the other three dimensions of energy: emotional (quality), mental (focus) and the human spirit (purpose). • the critical and undervalued role that intermittent renewal and recovery play in sustainable performance. • how to keep themselves in line with their body’s natural rhythms in order to get more done, in less time. • how to use sleep to maximize their energy, mood, cognitive capacity, and performance. • how to build their energy and capacity using interval and strength training. • how to keep their energy steady by eating the right food, in the right quantities, at the right times, without eliminating pleasure.
by the end of this module, participants will understand: • how to take control of emotions by being aware of how they feel at any given time. • how the degree to which we feel valued—cared for and respected—powerfully influences the quality of our energy. • how to get out of the Survival Zone and into the Performance Zone, where they’re most engaged, most productive, and do their best work. • the detrimental performance effects of triggers • a step-by-step approach to diminishing the frequency, intensity, and duration of a trigger’s impact. • the crucial distinction between the facts in our lives and the disempowering stories we often tell about those facts. • how to stay in a positive state of mind and build emotional resilience in the face of relentless challenge and demand.

this module targets: focus prioritization creativity productivity
this module targets: motivation purpose engagement values
by the end of this module, participants will understand: • how technology and increased demand have conspired to blur the boundaries between work and home, increase distractibility and encourage largely unproductive multitasking. • how continuous partial attention is affecting their ability to get work done as well as their relationships both at work and at home. • the drastic impact of multitasking on efficiency, quality of work, and relationships. • how to minimize distractions from email and other interruptions. • key strategies for focusing in an absorbed way on their most important tasks. • why the highest-level thinking requires moving flexibly between left and right hemisphere dominance without privileging either.r. • the value of taking control of your mental energy by investing it intentionally rather than reactively. • how to prioritize the most important tasks, even in the face of relentless urgency.
by the end of this module, participants will understand: • how to close alignment gaps in order to fuel motivation, connection, and passion. • how to make better choices about where to allocate time and energy based on recognizing what is most important to them. • how to draw on a powerful and stable source of energy by aligning their behavior with their deepest values. • how to increase their capacity by learning to balance their own needs with the needs of others. • the extraordinary performance impact of connecting with their own unique purpose.

The Energy Project team will work with your organization to facilitate the rollout via a structured four-phase approach:
phase 1: assessment We collaborate with you to assess and understand your company’s energy-related challenges and the ways in which your people, leaders, culture, practices and policies are influencing employee energy, engagement, productivity and performance.
phase 2: implementation Based on what we find in Phase 1, we design a solution that is tailored to your company’s needs. Our recommendation, combining our exclusive LeaderFuel solution for senior leaders with our core peoplefuel offering, will teach your employees valuable techniques for more effectively managing their own energy and the energy of those they lead.
phase 3: sustain As part of our commitment to driving behavior change that lasts, we offer follow-up resources, including more individualized coaching, an online energyritual tracker, and refresher courses. These tools help participants to design, implement, adapt and sustain the energyrituals they build, and to overcome the inevitable obstacles that arise along the way.
phase 4: follow-up Once our programs and coaching are complete, we work with you to evaluate the impact of the work based on the metrics that you’ve deemed most important. In addition, we offer a variety of in-person refresher and follow-up courses that help program participants stay on track, and deepen their understanding and practice over time.
This four-step process has consistently driven the highest levels of success with our clients. We’re also happy to discuss ways that we can meet unique needs your organization may have.
what our clients are saying “ The transformative power of this work lies in its ability to help very smart and already high-performing people change their current behaviors to be even more effective, fulfilled and connected to others. It delivers results because the foundations of good leadership are self-awareness and thoughtful action, and these ideas can be truly life-changing for both.” Evan Wittenberg Former Vice-President, Global Talent, Hewlett-Packard “ There’s no question that this investment we’ve made in our employees by bringing in The Energy Project has energized and motivated them and helped us as a company to stay strong in the midst of very tough times in our industry.” Amy Pascal Co-Chairman, Sony Pictures Entertainment “ The Energy Project played a critical role in helping us unlock the full potential of our leaders and employees. They were the perfect allies in our quest to create a high positive and fully engaged workforce.” David Furman Executive Vice President, Wells Fargo “ We have been using The Energy Project for several years in helping our Managing Directors manage their energy and direct their efforts in more meaningful ways. These programs have been mold-breaking for us, and consistently have shown great results.” David Deacon Managing Director, Credit Suisse “ It doesn’t matter whether it’s a small agency or a large agency, we won’t be as effective without The Energy Project as we will be with it. I’ve already seen it at the LAPD, and I know it could apply anywhere.” Mark Perez Deputy Chief, Los Angeles Police Department “ Open heart surgery is demanding on every level. Before we understood these principles, our fight with exhaustion – physical, emotional, mental and spiritual – was a daily battle. Today, managing our energy – and regularly renewing it – has become a guiding principle for all the members of my operating room team. The principles and practices have truly changed my life.” Mark Gillinov, M.D. Cardiovascular Surgeon, Cleveland Clinic
