EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATOR (EXTERNAL) Stó:lô Nation requires the services of a qualified Early Childhood Educator to fill a vacancy with the Mission Aboriginal Family Place of the Community Development Department. Pursuant to section 41 of the BC Human Rights Code, preference may be given to applicants of Aboriginal ancestry. Please self-identify on your cover letter or resume. The Early Childhood Educator is responsible for the following Key Result Areas: a) planning and implementing developmentally and culturally appropriate activities and experiences for children; b) assisting in developing Mission Aboriginal Family Place ECE curriculum; c) developmental assessments and child records; d) conducting Community Sessions, home visits and family nights; e) ensuring positive communication with children, parents and other family members; f) Contributes under the direction of the Coordinator to the ongoing operation of the program; g) leading large and small groups and one-to-ones; h) assisting HS staff in providing experiences for the children and their families relating to the 7 HS components; and; i) performs other tasks as assigned and as so directed by the immediate ECD Manager. This position reports to ECD Manger. The successful candidate will work out of the Western (Mission) office. Some travel may be required for this position. Please Note: a skill and knowledge based test will be administered at the time of interviews QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Must have an Early Childhood Education Certificate Must have experience working with children ages 0-6, specifically children with special needs Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills Must demonstrates abilities to build strong healthy working relationships with co-workers, community members, Stó:lō Nation staff, and Head Start families Knowledge and appreciation of Stó:lô culture Some Computer skills and typing skills required Openness/willingness to complete the Class 4 driver’s license Understanding of cross-Cultural issues that impact on Stó:lô people and First Nation communities Successful candidates will be required to provide the following if screened in for an interview: Proof of education documentation References: Three names and phone numbers of recent supervisors Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Drivers’ License Must successfully pass the required pre-employment RCMP Criminal records Check. SALARY RANGE: TYPE OF POSITION:
$15.00 - $16.00 per hour, based on qualifications/experience. Full-time with benefits, subject to 3-month probationary period and planned performance evaluations.
