Introduction
As reported by the European Energy Efficiency framework for the year 2050, progresses towards the Kyoto targets so far has been slow and the expectation for that year is that the yet ambitious goals will not be achieved, especially for what concerns resource depletion, GHG emissions reduction and energy consumption. As a result, course of action needs to be taken and that is why this group will strive to bring the aims of CKAA through a community engagement strategy. Due to lack of a coordinated activity towards the environmental agenda in previous years, a group of multidisciplinary students and researchers have become aware of this situation and been encouraged to create a strong synergies to spark initiatives. We are the first group of people in the Valencian Region facing the challenge of creating a wide-ranging network of contacts (companies, organizations and stakeholders). Our proposal is to facilitate dissemination and internally promoting the KIC Community in the region among concerned actors on sustainability.
2
Our Goals
Counting on the support of Universitat Politècnica de València, we will raise awareness among a wide range of environmental areas through the Knowledge and Innovation Communities. Our expectation is to contribute to the climate change minimization in the long term. Encouraged by participants of several ClimateKIC programs we meet the challenge of creating the Alumni Association in the Valencian Region (AAVR). The AAVR aims to create a collaborative network between students, young professionals and organisations at a regional level to enable and strengthen the link with KIC Community. Seeking for opportunities within and outside Climate KIC regarding local initiatives, start-ups and innovation projects. We are looking forward to meet Alumni from RIC abroad and innovative operating way of the community.

Alumni Assoc. Role: Delegate I am Tatiana Garcia Segura and I have studied Civil Engineering in UPV (Universitat Politècnica de València). The degree motivated me to achieve the maximum benefit from our natural resources and long-term benefit of society. This interest leads me to study the Official Master's Degree in Concrete Engineering and do the research final project about sustainable concrete. I have a PhD grant to keep researching about this topic. The main objective of this research project is to develop a methodology to establish efficient design criteria for nonconventional concrete structures that maximize their contribution to sustainability. I am learning how
I have finished my studies in building engineer in 2010. Then I worked as project manager on site for new building as well as for restoration.
develop low carbon structures by selecting the most environmentalfriendly raw materials and waste treatment. We are also working on a software which optimize a structure by minimizing their emissions.
I also worked in a technical office, delivering project construction documents.
My research group is being Host in Climate KIC and I have been chosen to participate in the Summer School “The Journey” 2013.
And my final job was as technician in a construction materials store, getting knowledge in materials and their features of the greenest ones.
I am convinced that the participation in this group means that we can exchange methodologies and expertise in sustainability initiatives. I am sure that the interaction with other fields will promote new opportunities of climate change innovations.
I am really interested in Climate Change minimization and Energetic Efficiency. Therefore I was in Bristol attending to Bristol Green Doors, days in which owners opened their houses to see the changes which they have done to consume less energy. I have also attended technical visits in Passivhaus dwellings in Frankfurt.

I would like to take advantage of participating in Alumni Climate-KIC as a potential professional career, with real expectations in this
Along my MSc Postgraduate studies in Civil Engineering I have gained some knowledge about innovation management as well as competent research skills and tools. Several energy efficiency impacts during building lifecycle stages were showcased in my MSc Thesis. I have recently enrolled in a PhD program to overcome solutions for the lack of coordination between AEC firms and the agencies of energy assessments.
I am aware of the environmental impact of construction, especially in buildings. Being aware of green construction practices, I do take into account the efficiency or environmentally friendly construction practices such as efficient materials, environmental quality enhancement, energy efficiency or waste reduction. I have always been interested in prevention from global climate change, particularly in the construction sector. In 2011 I took part at Green Build International Conference and Expo in Toronto, Canada, that influenced me in my current environmental concerns.

Calvo Muñoz, Clara
Batalla Antonino, María María Batalla is an architect by University CEU Cardenal Herrera, Valencia. During last years I had the oportunity to explore new fields as sustainability and energetic efficency applied to Architecture. I have collaborated in Solar Decathlon Europe 2012 toguether with SMLsystem.
My name is Clara Calvo Muñoz. I have studied Architecture and graduated in six years in UPV (Universitat Politècnica de València). Through my career I have developed spatial organization skills for project s from the detail to the whole.
Because of my experience in this field I strongly thing that my participation in the group CLIMATE-KIC would help in the application of new technics and innovations in the field of architecture.
I deeply respect the importance of the materials and their correct choice from the beginning of a work, in addition to the provisions of the rooms regarding solar orientation to reap the benefits of the climate, and so the least recourse to industrial contribution. Combination is required Project-Environment to achieve sustainable buildings and increase the use of natural sources such as water control.
The internacional context of architecture and enegenieering has as objective the research of new construction and technological techniques to design more efficent houses. It is because of my training in Solar Decathlon, that my interest in the research of new sustainable construction technologies has grown. I am confident it will help to improve the energetic efficency of future housing
So I began to study the Master of Concrete Engineering. This material is one of the most used in construction in Spain, and the Master introduced us in the field of alternative materials such as binders. These materials can be recycled from construction or industrial waste. This prevents (or minimizes)
8
the manufacture of cement, whose production emits large amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere. My final dissertation work focused on studying the durability of these alternative materials in situations of extreme temperature. Due to good results, and the parallel work of my colleagues in this field, I started in the doctoral thesis (PhD) covering the field of non-destructive testing methods. So important is control from the start a project with the right materials to develop a test method to check the status of a structure over the years, which does not involve the removal of more aggressive tastings or methods that would require correction accordingly after.
Therefore, and in summary, I have a deep belief that a change in the society habits is necessary, and that is why I am a member of Alumni Valencian Region.
