about me :

Francisca was born in June 1986 in Porto, the cultural capital of Portugal. As the daughter and granddaughter of jewellers, her creativity was encouraged by her mother who was passionate about art and design. As an architecture student at the Minho University, Guimarães, Francisca’s work was always marked by her creativity, communications skills and dynamism. Francisca was awarded her Integrated Master’s degree in 2009 where her excellence was reflected by receiving one of the highest marks given that year. Her professional experience began when still a student, at the Labastida & Maia atelier in Porto. A year after and under the direction of Carlos Maia and Marta Labastida, professors at Minho University, Francisca was chosen to collaborated with them as architectural intern In early 2011 Francisca moved to Hong Kong and she began working for Aedas as an intern, under the guidance of Andrew Bromberg. Within six months, her talent was recognized and she was employed as an architect on the design detailing team for the MTR West Kowloon Terminus Station (WKTS) project. After a year as an Intteriors Architect she returned to structural architecture, with MAP architecture and planning, working on the Rail Vision 2020 program of the MTR and on the new Middle Island Development of the Aberdeen Boat Club.

reference letters : Hong Kong, 25th March 2014 Francisca was employed by MAP architecture & planning for more than a year staring with us on 7 February 2013. As MAP’s director, I interviewed her and together with the other directors, Karl Grebstad and Samuelle Martelli, we hired Francisca as an Architect. Since then Francisca has shown herself to be dedicated and very committed to her work, and her design skills and diversity of work experience are impressive. Francisca started working with us in the middle of an MTR project as an in-house architect. She got up to speed with the project very quickly, and was soon given leadership of the project within MAP. In particular, she was able to design grand ideas for the station revitalization, as well as paying extremely close attention to detail and exploring new ideas as they came up. She was mainly responsible for the Design of Mong Kok station has the highest load of all the MTRC stations. The MTRC stations are the most intensively use in the world. While working in-house for MTR, she designed features for future stations, with the overarching goals of improving traffic flow and creating the perception of enlarged station spaces, through features such as internal facades (including a material and textures study), ceiling features, light features and architectural signage. Francisca proposed art installations to serve education and circulation purposes, inspired by her collaboration with Andrew Mead, the MTR chief architect. She also conducted an intensive color study among the existing MTR color schemes. Her ideas were outstanding and innovative, developing the new image that MTR needed. On completion of the MTR project, Francisca was the architect responsible for the new Aberdeen Boat Club at Middle Island in Hong Kong. It was a totally new challenge for her but very quickly she was designing the new club and all the required facilities. In particular, she completed all the design stages for the project, producing drawings from brainstorms held with the directors; coordinated with engineers, and other consultants, as well as leading liaison with the client. In addition to drawings she produced all material for presentation to the client and consultants. Bringing the design process to a successful completion, she prepared, under our guidance, submissions to numerous government agencies as necessary, throughout the project. Francisca is always eager to learn from others and to develop new skills. She has shown herself to be a strong team member, sharing the load with others, contributing to team goals and communicating with other team members. She maintains productive working relationships with colleagues, clients and consultants, and remains calm, courteous and respectful even in stressful situations and under pressure. At the time Isca joined TDA, I was serving in the role of Operations Director/Design Critic-in-Residence for the company, and in this role interviewed her, was impressed by both her personality and her broad &varied range of experience. I recommended her employment, and worked closely with her on several projects. I was very pleased to see her role expand and grow during that time. I was immediately impressed by Isca’s dedication, seriousness, and clear eagerness to learn & contribute more to the works of the office, drawing on her architectural training, but also learning the higher levels of detail required for interior design projects. She gained valuable experience in space planning (often preparing multiple test-fit plans), developing initial concept designs, and preparing more detailed design presentations in addition to actually working on construction drawings and details. I found Isca to be detail-oriented, careful and thorough in her work, and well organized. She was also an excellent team player and booster for the team spirit of her colleagues and for the work of the firm. She learned to use her contacts to try to source new business for the company, and was always willing to undertake extraoffice activities, which also contributed to the working environment and the interaction of our professional team. On both the vivid color can easily be read since it is surrounded by neutral and plain colors. The concept is to minimize the colored wall textures and maximize the neutral ones, the plain/neutral could be used in all stations and the bright color portion will be different from station to station but it will be as well the material less used. MTR Rail Vision 2020 MTRC Station Refurbishment Study. + MAP architecture & planning 02.2013 Mong Kok & Kowloon Tong stations, Hong Kong Exit Sign Mong Kok, 旺角, pronounced in Cantonese “Mong Gawk” means “prosperous corner and crowded corner”. As the busiest station in Hong Kong the old Exit sign inside the station had to be renewal by a more pretentious and bright signage. The man biggest idea was to leave the traditional and create a portal where you could incorporate info and light, that way it would be more consistent and would catch easily the attention of all stations users.

MTR Rail Vision 2020 MTRC Station Refurbishment Study. + MAP architecture & planning 02.2013 Mong Kok & Kowloon Tong stations, Hong Kong A different wall finish The propose was to renewal the old image of glass mosaic tile and introduce new material with some or different language. The material proposed where the glass, concrete and ceramic tile, but just the last two are shown here. Concrete, by its plasticity and strength we could print the ceramic metric on the wall as well other different textures, it would allow a color consistence and a texture work among the different stations. On of the advantages that concrete has is we could eventually introduce the color on it. We not only try to create a new finish matching the old design of the Mong Kok station as we applied other different textures such as: plain and smooth texture, bamboo & city map printed among others. The other option was adopt the old system, the ceramic tile but instead of a small one we are proposing a big ceramic tile.

MTR Coloring Treatment Color Study + MAP architecture & planning 07.2013 West Kowloon Terminus & Hung Hom stations, Hong Kong The white architecture drew on the 3D Visualizations gives to the space a cleanness near before achieved but a transparency of feelings and warmness. Request by the chief Architect of MTR, Andrew Mead, MAP worked on a color study for some of the station in construction currently. The main idea was to try and pop in some colors on this white non-spaces. The intension of the architect was give a new life/face to this spaces. The principal target was the West Kowloon Terminus from Andrew Bromberg. The color was filled not only the sexy elegant columns from the architect as well it was spread through walls and floor. on the last row of images it is notorious the warm mar cation on the floor that indices a path to the train’s corridor. On the Hung Hom station the ceiling was the object. Using natural materials colors such as: wood and cooper, on a gradation pattern the space gain a new liveness. Aberdeen Boat Club Middle Island Development Design, Submission and Implementation + MAP architecture & planning 10.2013 Middle Island, Hong Kong Aberdeen Boat Club (ABC) is been at Middle island for more than fourteen years and it is been the club’s dinghy fleet storage and sail’s training center. Due to the increase of sail’s members and the water sports popularity ABC needed new infrastructures; a new and better club house, a bigger hard stand for all the storage and boat activities. The all progress work for he clubhouse was a atypical process. Although MAP scheme was the winner the design suffer diverse modification, until the last option submitted to the government the design suffer diverse changes and tones of options were presented to the committee. Located at Hong Kong south on a desert island of Middle Island the new club wanted to be blended with the nature. Opposite to the neighbour Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club and the old ABC this proposal was a completed marriage with nature. Design wise the club suffer inspiration for the old Asia South-East Asia and all the material were judiciously chosen to match the terrain colors. Landscape was also important in other to create the appropriated to the members from HK island. I may refer that approximately sixty percent of the new development was dedicated to the boat facilities such as: storage, workshops, training rooms, showers, lockers and the other forty percent to the mender’s leisure.

DIAGEO Kinwick Centre Office Corporate Interior Design + TDA Interiors 10.2012 Central, Hong Kong Diageo Kinwick Office is an iconic workplace, since it is combining the classic office programme with bar functions. The office is divide in two areas: back of house with all workstations and front of house where you can find the Conference room as well the Bar/Pantry/product display. Conference Room & Break-Out/Bar Area are two room, although when the glass doors open, they work as single room, allowing the extension of the Client reception area. Dark flooring, light walls, aluminum & stainless steel trim and grey accents were the color palate for this project. Due to the neutral spaces that we are proposing for the conference room and break out area to host all kind of brands and marketing performance inside the room, the bar counter and the display wall work as a special and detailed elements in the project, in other words, they work as polished diamante craved in the ring.

Club Lusitano Hong Kong Refurbishment & Design Proposal + TDA Interiors 09.2012 Central, Hong Kong Our main concerns for the Club were maintain the “Salão Nobre de Camões” as a multifunctional room and understand all the different needs of this space as well give a new Image to the floor, a more Portuguese image, in other words, emphasize the Portuguese culture at the Club. The current appearance of the club, while modern, is not warm or inviting. By infusing the modern elements with some updated –yet traditionally derived elements, we will refresh the image. The new look for the club is intended to respect the classic modern elements of the existing space but to blend and infuse those elements with warmth and a sense of Portuguese culture and tradition through the judicious addition updating of the finishes and furnishings. All that fresh ambience will be given by new fabrics, lighter richer, wood finishes, paint colors, referring Portuguese. Salão Nobre de Camões - Elevations

An open office without hierarchy where creative could cooperate and be inspire. White ceilings, concrete floor, white ceilings, glass wall with wood frame and pop colors at accessories elements like area rugs and cushions, where the main components for this office. The proposal had a very free design not only about the colors palate but also about the furniture, for example: the table tennis could be a meeting table, the pantry seating could also be informal meeting table or even a refelxion space, the storage where also design with wheels in order to adapted the office needs as much as possible ...

Bayer MaterialScience Limited Hong Kong Design & Built Project + TDA Interiors 04.2012 Wanchai, Hong Kong The Hopewell Centre presents a unique planning and design challenge for several reasons: the circular plan results in trapezoidal- shaped rooms internally as well the rectilinear nature of most systems furniture and office furniture means that there is much under-utilized space and inefficiencies in laying out furniture. TDA has approached the design of the offices for Bayer Material Science by utilizing the following features, which are primarily derived from sustainable design planning practices, and current workplace planning trends. Grouping all single offices, glass-fronted, on the interior ring of the office, so as to open as much of the general office space as possible to the views and daylight available through the windows. The front of the single offices are full glass for maximum openness. The side wall of each office, opposite the desk and adjacent to the entrance doors, will feature a painted accent colour chosen from those of the BAYER corporate colours. Visually, as the eye follows the curving line of these internal offices around the internal core, the gradient shades of the BAYER corporate colours will come to life in 3-dimensional reality. Hopewell Centre + Built from 1977-1980, the Hopewell Centre was Hong Kong’s first circular skyscraper, and was its tallest building – and the 2nd tallest building in Asia - until the Bank of China Tower surpassed it in 1989.

Viroc(l)in WC Interior Design of a Toilet Room 01.2011 Oporto, Portugal

Viroclin WC is a project for a private toilet room; the idea was to rejuvenate the toilet that receive more guests, usually. Simple and young were the client requests. The material choice was crucial for this project. Viroc is a mixture of cluster wood with cement which gives a natural appearance and texture of the cement. The system chosen was very important to change completely the feeling of the one who visit the washroom. In other words the system for join the diferent slices of Viroc gave the new and young face of this toilet.

Dehonianas Priest House Landscape Architecture + Labastida & Maia 03.2010 Oporto, Portugal Architecture by Nuno Valentim

The aim of this landscape project was redevelop the outdoor surroundings of Dehonianas House in order to complement the relation between existing building and new housing expansion. The exterior is divided in to three spaces: the entry area, which it is directly related to the Boavista Avenue, the garden on the back related with the existing house, and finally, the courtyard below that it associated to the two floors rooms extension. The proposal took the meadow as an element that unify and qualify equally all this different spaces giving a great idea of one single garden and avoiding waste of space. At the entry was placed a floor with small pieces of concrete and combined with the meadow, it allows permeability of the soil and ensure the desired continuity across the site. On the sides of existing house, the meadow was extended to the facade of the new dorms and also to the square courtyard. Moreover on the courtyard floor was placed a layer of crushed rock: white sarrisca, which allows a great reflection of light solar. Finally on the boundary walls we had a tube’s curtain that serves as a guide for growth of jasmine and honeysuckle that climbed and eventuallyin the future, hight the walls completely With this solution we enhances the idea of unity as well give a good quality of space.

Currently the school’s outdoor spaces present an image very heterogeneous. It is a set of residual spaces too cuted and without a clear hierarchy. The proposal aims to integrate and articulate the exterior and interior spaces which allows a clear reading of the site as well as the relationship with the city.Therefore, it was proposed a space unify that allow integration of program into its parts: access, squares, sports, parking, circulation space and all pathways... We wanted to provide flexible appropriations of the outdoor space and at the same time maintain the contact with vegetation. More than one solution to the “exterior”,it presents as an overall architecture of the intervention.

54 Urban Void - PARQUES D’ÁGUA The contribution of architecture to the activation of urban public spaces Mater Thesis + City and Territory Planning 12.2009 Oporto, Portugal There are many spaces in cities which are forgotten among the built ones; in fact, they often seem lifeless and left over. The urban transformation has been defacing public areas in the city. The current form of urban public space occupation is completely ignored and the generic city, however dense, is constructed from fragments and overlaps. “Indeed, the modern city is made of holes, which show us its state of incompleteness. But these holes are presented, above all, as a promise, as a source of possibilities.”* Although this places, however urban, are resistant to urbanity and do not want the speedy life of the city, as if they felt strange and uncomfortable. These places are like reminders, questioning architecture and city through that absence. The aim of this thesis was to recognize them as “places of renewal potential, from which the city can be reborn but also to meet their needs through architecture. The metropolis allows multiple layers over the same soil and it is the analysis of these layers that is performed in Lugar do Regado in order to better intervene in the soil. The proposed project aims to thereby activate the urban public space by promoting further development of the city in a provocative way. The site was clearly divided by traffic roads, although there was an underground link that unify the three spaces in one single terrain: the Granja river. The proposal had as an aim discover the river and adapt each space to its pre-existence. Now, the old lake will result in a leisure park where we could experience the interaction with the nature; in other words a living space in the city. Connected to the Sports Complex Nun’Álvares we added new uses such as: swimming pools, skate park, sports fields… And at last we creat a farmland. Percursos Os percursos do PARQUES D’ÁGUA são o somatório das peças com os caminhos. Através desta adição é possível circular num número variado de trajectos que unem os diferentes parques (urbano+desportivo+cultivo) assim como cozer a cidade com o PARQUES. Esta soma de passagens permite-nos fazer o percurso pedonal primariamente pretendido acompanhando o curso de água. Contudo, esta linha freática é cortada pelas vias de acesso rodoviário, distinguindo assim três parques.

É sobre as peças que se situam os usos fundamentais do projecto. Por exemplo, no parque desportivo, sobre as peças, está contido o complexo das piscinas, o novo campo de jogos e o parque de skates. No parque urbano, as peças conformam não só a marina e o solário que se sobrepõem ao lago, mas também agarram os novos edifícios que fazem frente para a V.C.I. Na zona de cultivo as peças compõem a entrada oeste de todo o PARQUES D’ÁGUA, assim como rematam edifícios e circulação fronteiriça. Estas peças para além de criarem espaço público urbano agregam a maioria da edificação proposta. Esta situa-se primordialmente na face da Via de Cintura Interna.

Parque Urbano

Parque Urbano é um dos Parques que compõem os PARQUES D’ÁGUA. Com uma vertente mais urbana, este goza do lago e de toda actividade que este sugere. O ambiente “bucólico” é mantido tal como sugere Ignasi de SolaMorales. O projecto apenas aponta usos ou actividadeS que podem reanimar este terreno. *Hortas Urbanas

São já muitas as hortas nos municípios portugueses. Surgiram pela exigência de legumes e frutas mais frescas, para sobreviver, vender ou apenas ocupar o tempo. Na maioria, estas hortas localizam-se dentro ou na periferia da cidade.

Neste parque onde a Ribeira se desmultiplica para regar os campos, a actividade predominante é a agricultura. De facto, esta prática já existia no local daí o seu favorecimento e expansão para todo a área. Contudo, é importante reter a permeabilidade do sítio e a diversidade de percursos possível neste parque. Estando numa zona fronteiriça com um nó da V.C.I. propomos uma praça polivalente que actua tanto como espaço publico multifuncional como entrada \ saída do PARQUES D’ÁGUA. A vegetação do lugar será na maioria da responsabilidade dos agricultores (leguminosas e frutas, supomos). A agricultora faz a articulação a modernidade e a natureza, de um modo simples.

vista sobre a entrada oeste do Parque das Hortas

Sr. Carlos Alberto Carlos Alberto habita numa casa modesta na Vila Joaquina, no Alto de Santo Amaro, e, ali ao lado, cuida de uma pequena horta num pedaço de terra mesmo à entrada da Quinta da Bruxa. Carlos Alberto cultiva um “palmo” de terra em terreno escarpado, numa zona que anos a fio foi desprezado por todos, mas que hoje é cobiçado por especuladores imobiliários. Entre couves e galinhas, Carlos Alberto deixa-se conduzir pelo destino, com bonomia. Aqui, cultiva a tradicional couve portuguesa. E também alfaces, tomates, nabos, nabiças, feijão, batata e cebola, tudo o que uma horta tem. Uma imagem de uma horta pode parecer banal. Mas, assim, no meio da cidade, é tudo um pouco estranho. Com uma vista privilegiada sobre o Palácio da Ajuda, Carlos Alberto observa a cidade que fica à distância, lá longe e lá em baixo. Lisboa ainda lhe permite cultivar as suas couves e criar as suas galinhas. É nisto que reside o fascínio das cidades. Há muitas Lisboas dentro de Lisboa. A Lisboa de Carlos Alberto não é certamente a Lisboa do Hotel Pestana Palace.

Intensify | Densify | Stay Studio 5º year + Braga Urban Planning + Minho University 01.2009 Braga, Portugal With + Isaura Fonseca + Guilherme Barbosa + Maria João Fernandes

To improve the urban environment, to manage growth and ensure the future sustainability of Braga, the project started from one single idea: densify the number of inhabitants per area and intensify the human experience of Braga city center. It was intended that the city center could had life 24 hours a day. Picking up the Roman heritage, in other words, identify and discover all roman ruins was the main idea for this urban planing. Further than discover roman ruins, we use the roman urban grid as a guide for densify the city center. It was necessary to return to the urban space the abounded roman heritage We propose a city with many layers: from the roman ruins until the top, with different uses. In order to intensify the mobility of the city we also introduce a new transportation system for masses: the cable car. This transport will be the general interface, linking bus and train without interfering traffic. After intensify the city with new buildings it was needed to contrast the difference between neighborhoods and the use of different materials such as: wood, stone, polycarbonate, was the way found. Despite the rationality of the proposal is a clear concern about “humanize” the city.

The cable car has as station the new icon tower of the city.

Above the main avenue of Braga, it wanted a new upper commercial street.

STEP_3: to build the house. z 3.1 - lay a floor of stones and concrete on the ground. 3.2 - build a frame while the concrete is drying on the ground; this is where the lower side of the wall will attach. 3.3 - prepare all the polycarbonate sheets to be jointed together to form the walls of the house. 3.3.1 - make straight cuts with a manual cutter, along the longitudinal edges of the panels, following the directions of the internal cells. 3.4 - start with thw main wail, this will give structure to built the rest. 3.5 - after, include the higienic box 3.6 - place the main beam, after that it will be able to place the shutters and the perpendiculares beams, that will suport the roof 3.7 - and in the end the roof and is done !

After the study of polycarbonate as an architecture material, it was asked to develop a modular building with this material.

Architect’s Office Studio + Townhouse in a Foreign Culture, NTNU 11.2007 Lhasa, Tibet, China Guidance by Knud Larsen, Architect.

Tibetan’s house is most of the times a small living room which is used at the same time as dining room, bedroom and kitchen. Typically tibetan houses have only electricity and the water supply is shared and placed outdoor, for that reason they are obliged to show part of their privacy in the courtyard. All the activities that are connected with the water are made outside such as: clothes washing, bath... After recognizing the influence of the Chinese architecture and study the Tibetan environmet, culture and people the ideia was to design a building with a logical structure and simple as possible, in order to do not damage the tibetan building surronding. That is why it was choosen for the buildind program an architect’s office. One of the guidelines of this project it was also emphasize the everyday Tibetan in their courtyard, and improve their conditions of life, in this case, the users of the current semi-public restrooms of housing nearby. In fact, the courtyard is an important place in the quotidian of Tibetans it is part of their homes, it is a social place. The entrance and the path to go, in to the housing building are separating the courtyard in two parts: the wet part and the dry part. The first one is reserved for the bathroom and the fountain, the only place in “their homes” with drinkable water. And the half reserved for social activities. Joining the bath with the common tap, it was the way founded to free a big area that before, was not available for social activities. The architect office is the new face of the residential building, more than an entrance to the courtyard the new office it is allowing privacy to the courtyard. The office is structured in three layers , the receiving area where you can find the meeting room, toilet and kitchen. The first it is the work place and the last one is the relaxion one, with a patio and a small room for introspection.

reflect² Architecture Competition + ePlace: muro³ 06.2010 FAUP, Oporto, Portugal with Isaura Fonseca and Bruno Martins Judge: Luís Urbano, Architect; Pedro Bandeira, Architect; Gabriela Vaz Pinheiro, Architect.

The contest propose an installation in two spaces of Oporto’s University of Architecture: in the entrance of the school (“the cube”) and in the east wall of the university. The installation had a maximum valium of €500 and couldn’t damage the existent building. reflect² wanted to be a reflection and, at the same time, the reflex of the multiple subject (author + audience) and the reflex of the space. The installation consisted in the placement of mirrors in the vertical tops of the wall and in the floor of the cube. The reflection of the windows and the vertical plans had created a multiple reflections that were playing not only with the actor that crossed the mirror but also with the audience almost undetectable. In the cube the swing was playing with the horizontal plan; that was the last point of the way where the audience could see not only themselves and the space as well the sky. It is through the swing and the mirrors that you map new crossings and where the spectator is encouraged to reflec² (think/see). A instalação é feita com vários materiais, aplicados de forma reversível. No muro u lizam-se espelhos, colados com fita adesiva/ silicone(não abrasiva). No cubo o material refl ector eleito é o alumínio polido (1mm de espessura), com efeito espelhado passível de suportar cargas variáveis, pousado depois de soldado (tornando-se uma placa una encaixada no sí o). O baloiço é feito com um pneu reu lizado e corda de polipropileno, pretendendo ser o mais económico e resistente possível. “(…)os ar stas podem na verdade reinventar as funções dos lugares (…) e mapear movimentos e atravessamentos, fluidez e transferências, recorrências e analogias, episódios pitorescos e minudências (…).”*

Este muro horizontal termina numa quebra|mudança de direcção, que delimita a praça - local de grandes atravessamentos e concentração de pessoas. Colocando um espelho maior, voltado para o interior da praça, cria-se uma nova vizinhança com as janelas envolventes e um conjunto de reflexos traiçoeiros, do lugar e da audiência. Por seu turno, o cubo desempenha um papel de des no|ponto de par da, de carácter mais está co e introver do. Deste modo, a horizontalidade condiz com este momento de pausa e reflexão, pelo que o painel reflector se coloca no pavimento, espelhando tudo o que está acima do chão – o próprio cubo e o céu como fundo – ou seja, maioritariamente, o lugar. Quando este espaço é habitado espelha ainda o fruidor da obra - quer este esteja sentado no banco preexistente, a passar pelas escadas, a entrar pela porta ou… a baloiçar. O baloiço é o elemento que melhor retrata o dinamismo|esta smo (trajectória limitada) e que se coloca no limite do cubo, ora sendo reflec do ora deixando de ser. É através dele que se mapeiam novos atravessamentos e que o fruidor é incitado a reflec r 2.

REFLECTIR 2 pretende ser a reflexão, e simultaneamente, o reflexo do sujeito múl plo (autor + audiência) e do próprio lugar. A intervenção, que se estende do muro ao cubo, consiste na colocação de painéis reflectores. O muro, elemento dinâmico por excelência que marca uma direcção e um atravessamento (onde é interrompido) representa o início|fim de um percurso, controverso. A aplicação dos espelhos limita-se aos planos de topo na interrupção do muro, reflec ndo a imagem do observador que o trespassa, ou que simplesmente percorre paralelamente o mesmo. A obra de arte interage ni damente com o

3GSwing is a new multifunctional swing, allowing the living together of the 3 generations and also the interaction of the different ages and genders. The inspirations comes from a bird cage, which in one hand it gives the sense of a shelter (their space) and in other hand it encourage for adventure and fun. The main new in this swing is its hanging rotation movement, looking exactly like an autumn leaf in the tree. The 3GSwing allows not only the children to get in but also their parents and even the elderly. The aim is to join the different scale people in the same play. Moreover, once inside the probability to fall down is minimal, since is a closed capsule; in other words, everyone will be safe inside. The structure of the swing frame is made of a unique steel L, coated with wood to seem a tree trunk. This equipment will be prepared to resist the outdoor environment and the net material will be made of steel-reinforced ropes. The net’s shape is given by a tubular steel torus. 3GSwing is a treehouse used by everybody in the urban landscape.

Instead of talking about urban voids like a lot of confrences and expositions, as an example Lisbon Architecture Triennale*, Porto Collage wanted to work about the full’s parts of the city. Through a collage it was required a critic/satire of the actual current city of Oporto. The contest was divided in three groups: Housing, Public Space and Public Equipment. The Portuguese main roads to access the city are used only to communicate the urban and their periphery. The proposa at “dream place to work ®” was to create a new image of these roads by designing bridgebuildings, for example. In this way we will bring near the two sides of the route. Further, road’s concession has the exclusivity of its troposphere, not allowing the construction of these structures, and the creation of a new image. We need a miracle!

Sacred Void Architecture Competition + “Architecture in Sacerd Places”, TUREL 05.2009 Sadinia, Italy with Isaura Fonseca Judge: Dr. José Paulo Abreu; Dr. Élio Manuel Delgado Maia; Mayor of Aveiro; António Sá Machado Architect.

Sacred Void was the name founded for this ecumenical chapel. This proposal was intended as an exception on the mesh of the current capitalist cities. The cities density were smoothed by the fullness, hence the Sacred Void is a building that in stead of juxtapose themselves, it is opening a void, a living space in the city, where churches’ life is integrated with city life. Its shape comes from the analogy to the bell tower, an icon of almost all religious buildings: Christian, Islamic, Hindu, Buddhist….

Clothes Line Gallery Architecture Competition + GO! ARCHITECTURE 11.2008 Oporto, Portugal with Catarina Fernandes and Isaura Fonseca Judge: Manuel Graça Dias, Architect; Alberto Lage, Architect; Nicolau Brandão, Architect; Paula Soares, Painter.

Inside of an urban void of Oporto, Go! Architecture proposed a completely new space, almost inexistent in Portugal. That space/building wanted to be for artists, where they could espouse their work, sleep, labour and eat; and at the same time, where the artist, the public and art work could interact. The urbanity of the city centres invites the living for outside of their houses. Clothes line is one of the elements that take part of the different houses but is placed outside. So, we have done an analogy between interior/exterior, where we could contrast the private and public activities. The proposal was based in the exposition of the activate that happened normally inside the “house”. On that way artist’s life as well their work were dealing with city and its frenetic activity. The Clothes line gallery structure was built by steel pillars that supports de different cables where the different rooms where hanging.
