Mission Statement

Architecture is a tool for making change in society from an environmental and social perspective. My interests is mainly pushing the concept of net zero development. The largest CO2 contributor is the life span of the built environment because of maintenance and energy consumption. Net zero is an opportunity for creating self managing architecture. Net zero creates the opportunity for innovation in the building envelope to create more inhabitable spaces. Combining biomimicry and net zero strategies is essential for future architecture to adapt to the demand of humanity. The interaction between biomimicry, adaptability, and morphosis for change and efficiency is crucial for bettering a sense of place, create character and identity: this is important for increasing accessibiilty, equity, and influence human interaction and experience with architecture. My projects are a reflection of a systems way of thinking about the built environment looking for relationships instead of mechanically focusing in one problem. They are a reflection of my personal values and goals to make change in the whole looking at the context through macro and micro relationships.

REJUVINATION

Aging is inevitable. With the increasing aging population, we continue to subjugate senior living to institutionalized aging environments only to find that it creates isolation of the individual and conformity in life: this tends to lead loss of identity and autonomy. With both people and the urban fabric aging at a rapid rate, this project aims at repurposing the Empire State to host senior living by creating multigenerational communities through the concept of a tree, mimicking form, functions, and layers to tackle density growth and increase of pollution due to an increase in population.

LEARNING MACHINE

LEARNING MACHINE creates an experiential promanade path for the users to developed identities, relationships, and foster a sense of community at the endpoints. The school edges provide learning opportunities and a sense of collaboration within the community. However, a cut through path becomes an alternative to engage with the entire community differently.

Kinetic Fabric

KINETIC FABRIC is an attempt to create a shading device that is exotic, yet adaptable to sun orientation to retrofit not only the building façade for Onyx bridge at the University of Oregon but also recreate the building’s aging identity. The usage of fabric gave us the opportunity to use the elasticity and weaving patterns to reflect light into the space, reduce glaring, and push light deep into an office space. The kinetic component is not only for energy efficiency, but also for an artful interaction with the user.

Block 7

BLOCK 7 explores levels of share space to create a gradiancy of transparancy between public and private space by maintaining a path that cuts diagonally through the site. This promanade shortcut is supported by a variety of of anmenities and public park spaces to maximize accesibility. The setback form created from the stairs serves as a secondary circulation and is a reflection of the circulation within the building corridors to access units. The units utilizes the idea of the in-between spaces in the form of a indoor deck to create the opportunity for community building. To support community building, a double skin facade was incorporated, which also helps with environmental control strategies.Although, the extension of the skin becomes an opportunity for social sustainability and a secondary corridor for ADA accessibility.
