The residence halls and campus homes close for Thanksgiving Break (5 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 through 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 27, 2016) and the Holiday Break (5 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2016 through 2 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2017) to give college employees an opportunity to celebrate the holidays. During this time, students need to plan to stay elsewhere. Student ID cards will be deactivated to prevent unauthorized access to the residence halls so students need to pack all essentials when they leave campus! If there are special circumstances in which a student needs to be on campus during a break, they need permission from the Director of Residence Life. It is each student's responsibility to make arrangements to leave campus or request permission to stay during break periods. Student athletes with official athletic obligations (e.g. a game during the break) and students with academic obligations can stay for free if they are approved. All other students will be charged to stay for the break. Any questions about break housing should be directed to the Director of Residence Life.

Current residents are required to communicate their plans for Winter Term and Spring Semester with Residence Life in November. This helps us know who plans to live on campus for Winter Term and if they plan to return for Spring Semester. Students must be taking a Winter Term course or working at an internship to remain on-campus during Winter Term. If there are special circumstances, students can request permission to stay from the Director of Residence Life. Students without a roommate or those who have a roommate not returning to campus next semester should review the College’s policies on consolidation located in The Key: A Guide to Campus Life. If you have questions about this process, please contact the Director of Residence Life.

For some students, Franklin is really starting to feel like home and they are sad about leaving new-found friends during the winter break. However, for some students, it might take some more time. Some students are struggling to find their niche, socially and academically. Continue to encourage your student to get involved in student organizations and activities on campus. Students may also experience feelings of guilt, anxiety and fear over their academic performance and exam preparation. This can be overwhelming when combined with the feelings around heading home for winter break. It is important at this point to be supportive and encouraging. Sending letters of encouragement and care packages are a great way to give students that extra push of confidence to finish.

FLU VACCINE REMAINS AVAILABLE!
