Welcome to Kids on Campus, a summer program offered by Franklin College. Our goal is to develop and expand students’ interests, stimulate creativity and provide unique learning opportunities on the Franklin College Campus.
Students choose classes from areas of interest. Classes are offered for students entering grades 1-8.

Class sizes are limited. Register early for the best course selection. Online registration begins April 13th.
Any student attending camp all day should bring a disposable sack lunch. Refrigeration is available. Those attending half day are welcome to come early or stay late to join us for lunch too.
Join us on the last day of camp to celebrate the learning and fun we have had. We will share our experiences from the week through presentations and displays. At 11:45am all classes will return to the JCFA atrium. Everyone will eat their lunch and enjoy some frosty ice cream treats. Then we will share what we have learned with one another.
We will offer scholarships to children of Johnson County schools. Scholarships will be awarded on a referral basis from school counselors for those students that have economic challenges that would otherwise make it impossible for them to attend. Recipients must have maintained a C-average or better and have been a respectful student to their classmates and teachers.
Registration fees may be paid a variety of ways and must be submitted with your registration form. Cash, check and credit cards are accepted (Visa, Master Card & Discover). Only credit card payments can be made when registering online. If you are paying by check, you can complete the form at the back of this catalog and mail to: Franklin College, 101 Branigin Blvd, Franklin, IN 46131, Attn: April Reamsnyder. Please make checks payable to Franklin College.
A refund, minus a $20 processing and material fee, will be made for any cancellation two weeks prior to the session start date. No refunds will be made after the two week period.
Camp will begin promptly at 8:30am for the AM and All-day classes. If you have signed up for the PM session, classes begin at 12:30pm. If you are only attending one class please arrive 10 minutes before class time. Parents must sign their children in and out each day of camp. More details about the check in & out process listed on page 12.
We are excited to announce that this year we will be offering After Camp Care. Student participating will be given a snack each day. After Camp Care begins at 3:50pm. Parents should pick up their children promptly at 5pm.

Description Feel the excitement of the rocket taking flight! You will work through the design process to construct various rockets. You will explore different designs, make scientific observations, and after a trial run-you will make modifications to your rocket.
All About the Blog
Do you love to write or journal? Do you love using technology to publish your finished product? If so, this is the class for you! You will create your own personal journal and update it daily. You will design your blog, choose topics to focus on, include graphics, animation, and even videos to enhance your overall product. You will end the class with a unique space to communicate with your family and friends.
Android Development for Beginners
In this class we will use MIT App Inventor to create basic apps for Android. MIT App Inventor is a blocks-based programming tool that allows everyone, even novices, to start programming and build fully functional apps for Android devices
Building a Strategic Mind
Have fun playing games with friends while learning the best strategies to win the games! Impress your family during your family game night with your awesome new skills! You’ll leave them asking, “How did you get so good!?”
Can You Dig It!
Worms, dirt, and science! Oh my! You will create a worm habitat to observe and experiment with throughout the week. Do worms like wet or dry surfaces? Do they like the light or the dark? These are the discoveries you will make in Can You Dig It? This class incorporates writing, poetry, and math while exploring the world of worms.

Crazy for Kodu
Creating with Words
Description Do you like making up stories? How about drawing silly characters, brave adventurers, or princesses? You can do all of this and more in Comic Creations! You will learn how to draw cool characters for your story from start to finish and ultimately make a comic creation about them. Anything can happen in your comic world, and you will bring it to life! This class we’ll create games on the PC and Xbox via a simple visual programming language. Kodu can be used to teach creativity, problem solving, storytelling, as well as programming. Anyone can use Kodu to make a game with no previous design or programming skills. Do you make like to make up your own stories? Have you ever written a song? Engage in the art of using your imagination to create a variety of works from poetry and stories to songs and television scripts. You will learn how to express your emotions through a better use of words. You will have plenty of time to write and create, so have a writing journal with you and be ready to fill it with ideas.
Cutting Deep into Come see, touch and explore animals in a Dissection whole new way! In grades 5-6, we will find out what an owl ate for lunch, do some virtual dissections, and complete a creative activity - all before moving on to dissecting a cow eye. In grades 7-8, we will do virtual dissections, complete a creative activity, and dissect a cow eye and a frog. Digital Storybook Do you love to write or share stories? Do you love using technology to enhance your stories? If so, then sign up for Digital Storybook. Lean to write a short, first person narrative, created by using photos, music, video, and animations. At the end of the week, you will share your finished story with their peers. DNA: Code of Life Look inside yourself and other living things to see what they are made of. View plant and animal cells through a microscope. Extract DNA from wheat germ and construct an edible DNA model of your own.

Earthquakes, Tornados & Lighting, Oh My!
The earth shakes, the wind swirls and the bright light flashes across the sky. Earthquakes, Tornados and Lighting can be scary but it can also be fascinating. Through experimentation, you will create your own models and simulate the different types of disasters. You will learn what causes them to happen.
Engineering Wonders
Bridges are an amazing work of engineering. The structures can be both strong and architecturally appealing. Our week long project will be to make a balsa wood bridge. We will then put those bridges to the test to see whose will hold the most weight.
Eric Carle: Inspired
What do Brown Bear, What Do You See, and The Very Hungry Caterpillar have in common? The iconic style of Eric Carle. In this class, you will learn more about the life, style, and techniques of Eric Carle and create art that resembles his. We will play with paint, experiment with textures, and best of all, create our own masterpieces.
Fairy Tale Reader This Reader’s Theaters will provide fun and Theatre interactive ways to practice reading fluently and with expression. By using scripts adapted from fairy tales, students will practice their reading skills while acting out their favorite knight, princess, dragon or witch! Field Day
Spend a fun-filled week outside in the sun and being active. Each day the children will take part in activities that will get them moving. They will learn a multitude of games and activities that enhance individual fitness and teamwork skills.
Flight Simulator: Beginner & Advanced levels
For beginners: Use a flight simulator program to learn how to operate an airplane. Fly a variety of aircrafts in different regions around the world. Learn how the pilots do it! If you have taken Flight Simulator before then you are ready for the advanced level. You will learn more techniques, fly more complex planes and fight in simulated combat. This will really test your skills!
For the Love of Chocolate
Find out the story of chocolate from tree to store. Make different chocolate recipes. Make chocolate ice cream in a bag! Create your own chocolate bar! If you don't love chocolate already, you will after this class!

I Wanna Be Like Ben
Let’s invent! Ben Franklin was a great man who invented many great things. He invented useful tools like swim fins. He even had useful ideas like paying it forward! In Want to be Like Ben, we’ll get inspired, get focused, and generate great ideas to help us create inventions of our own!
Imaginary World of Cartooning
Do you like to draw? Do you like to pretend? Then you’ve found the class for you! Imaginary World is a class where you will imagine your own super-cool world and bring it to life as a comic book! You will have the power in your pencils and pens to give life to anything you can imagine!
Lacrosse: America’s First Sport
We will take a look at the history of Lacrosse, a game founded by the native Americans. We will practice basic skills like cradling, passing and shooting. This active game will keep you moving just as our nations ancestors did.
Learning with Legos
This class is designed to stimulate creativity, problem-solving skills, and collaboration through the use of Legos. Children will learn about science, engineering, and math while creating a variety of Lego structures.
Let’s Scratch the Surface
In this class we will program our own interactive stories, games, and animations. We will share your creations with others in the online community. Scratch helps young people learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively — an essential skills for life in the 21st century.
Munching through Math
Math just got a whole lot more delicious! Enjoy learning math skills while eating tasty treats that you make. Explore problem solving, geometry, sorting and fractions all with yummy treats and fun stories.

Shiver Me Measurement, Matey
Rrrr ye’ ready for an adventure on the high seas?? Welcome aboard! Let’s use rulers, yardsticks, and tape measures and more to find buried treasure, create pirate ships and invent some maps of our own!! We will learn which measuring tools are most appropriate in specific situations, how to correctly use each tool, closely estimate, and when to use different units.
Speed it up!
Ever wonder how rockets go so far, so fast? Through different styles of rocket building, students will explore how aerodynamics and propellant systems affect the speed and distance that a rocket can potentially travel. It’s going to be a BLAST!

Sun, Wind, Water...It’s Energy
It’s time to get outside and get moving! We will use team building skills to play games. This class will keep you moving which will stimulate your mind and body. All over the world, scientists are finding new ways to not only save energy, but make energy! Now it is your turn to be the scientist! Through exciting demonstrations and experiments, we will create various forms of renewable energy, such as solar, wind, and hydro electronics, to see how it works first hand. We will put our heads together to come up with our very own renewable energy class project to show what we have learned!

The Great Outer Space
Do you know which planet is hotter than Mercury? Have you seen a nebula or a galactic ring of stellar fire? Learn interesting details about our solar system and beyond as we study and create all things space!
We all scream for We will combine literacy, math, and science Ice Cream! to learn all about ice cream. We'll invent new flavors. We will conduct taste tests to determine which is our most favorite. We'll even do experiments to see which types melt fastest and how to slow down the melting process. On our final day of camp, we will make our very own ice cream in a bag! Web Design 101
Have you ever wanted to create your very own webpage? If so, this is the class for you! Throughout this class, you will be introduced to planning and designing effective webpages. You will enhance your web page with the use of page layout techniques, formatting, graphics, images, and multimedia. Impress everyone with your newly created webpage!
What’s The Matter?
With fun hands-on experiments, you will discover the different forms of matter. You will use the scientific method to test properties and to change forms. We will be concocting gunk and making a tasty treat that displays every form!

Information regarding the zone each student is assigned will be emailed to the parent/guardian the week prior to camp. When families arrive, they will report to their assigned zone. Zones are separated by grade level. At check-in, each student will receive a lanyard with his/her name, zone and class schedule. Adults are free to go once their student is checked in. Students will remain in their respective zones until the teacher or student guide checks attendance and is ready to escort them to their classroom. At check-out, parent/guardians will return to their zone as they did for check-in. Exception: Parent/Guardian, with a student enrolled in the 1 or 5 class option, may have a different room for check-in & out.
