Forget recruiting fundraising experts!

Forget recruiting fundraising experts!

For all intents and purposes, they don't exist. Instead, take note of this guy.

John Stuart Mill, Nineteenth-century English economist and philosopher (1806 –1873)

John advised “One person with a belief is equal to a force of 99 who have only interests.”

So go hunting for that one person with a belief. A person who is at a stage in life where they are wanting to make an impact for good in society. A person who has reached a stage in life where material wealth has revealed itself to be the shallow source of meaning that it is. A person who holds a love of humanity and thoroughly flourishes when interacting with other people who are equally curious about how to improve the world. A person who recognizes that they don’t know what they don’t know but they are willing and excited about learning what they need to know in order to help other people to thrive. A person who loves hanging out with strangers no matter their class, creed, gender, religion or race. A person with the ability to speak with and listen to others to see if there is a match.  A person who exhibits patience, endurance and tolerance - and - as my Grand mother always reminded me - discipline.

That person. Employ that person. And then teach them.

Here is my suggestion for an advertisement to find them:

We are looking for a person who loves interacting with people from all walks of life and sharing with them about a cause that vastly improves lives.  We are looking for a person who will be a driver of conversations with other people who also want to see our cause thrive.  Don’t panic about what you are to say about the cause with other passionate supporters or potential supporters. Nor about what channels you will use to drive those conversations. You will figure it out after we have provided you with our extensive training that will just excite you more about who we are and the difference our nonprofit is making.

Oh. Yeah. You will need to be a realist.

While we dream big about the change we want to make, we need you to be as realistic as we are about the journey of getting there. We have mapped out a very realistic and achievable journey of engaging with generous people who will want to support our cause. So, you will definitely not be alone in this work. We just need someone with your people skills to keep the process of generosity going.

So what’s in it for you?

It starts with a handshake of welcome from our Chairperson who will consider themselves privileged to meet you. They and the other board members will have your back.  Always.

Give me a call to chat it over. I quite honestly can’t wait to meet you.

That person. Employ that person. And then teach them about philanthropic relationship management. Then you will have a fair chance of Cracking Generosity
