Dear
FRIENDS This report is a chance for us to acknowledge the good we have at FRA and to express our gratitude for the abundance provided to us by your donations, volunteerism, and community spirit. Because of your support, last year’s annual fund raised more than ever before, with 95 percent current parent participation. The annual campaign was led by our faculty who once again reached 100 percent participation. Donors we spoke with said again and again that their financial contribution was a tangible way to show gratitude for what FRA provides its students. On behalf of our leadership team, faculty, and staff, there is no higher compliment! The student experience is at the center of everything we do at FRA. The annual fund provides critical funding for our classrooms, enhanced, robust programming, and professional development opportunities for our faculty. This allows us to bring the classrooms alive with new ideas, deep knowledge, and better understanding of content, and creates unprecedented value for our families. Our capital campaign has enabled us to construct new dynamic spaces for learning, a dining hall for building community, study spaces that encourage collaboration, a new dance studio, wrestling room, a designated Heart to Heart classroom, and a spirit store/cafÊ. This past summer, we dedicated the Weicker Center for Student Life and in doing so opened the doors to a new building that creates a town center for our community. It is a place for students and families to learn, play, work, and gather. We are blessed every day to witness the transformational impact it is having on our community and the foundation it has established for the future of our campus. And we are just getting started! Your support gives us the ability to impact students through programs such as the Heart to Heart program, which is changing the way every student on our campus views differences. It is allowing us to gather in a chapel together as one family. And it is providing classroom learning experiences to prepare students for their future. As you read through the pages of this report, look beyond the names, numbers, and faces to see the generous spirit of our community and the good we have among us. For this I am both blessed and grateful. With abundant gratitude,
Sean R. Casey, Head of School 3 |

s soon as we walked onto campus, we honestly felt a peace come over us. We had been touring schools, trying to decide where to send our oldest daughter, Kherington. When we talked to the teachers at FRA, we felt a real sincere sense of commitment to the curriculum. All the teachers we talked with were really invested in the classroom experience. Six years later, and two additional children now enrolled at FRA, the word “invest has continued to be a theme for our FRA experience - an experience that really just begins in the classroom. Teachers and the whole FRA community invest in our children by building their confidence and exposing them to new ideas and challenging them to answer tough questions. Our children are not just getting an amazing education, but they are being poured into and challenged. We have seen teachers go above and beyond, not just teaching them what they need to be learning in the classroom, but by doing extra special things to build more into our kids. So, we love being able to give back and are committed to supporting the school financially.
We support FRA because our children are so deeply invested in, loved, and cared for.
Our Donor STORY
LAUREN AND MATT COST
Kherington '27, Branch '30, Pippa '30, and Adri
We are grateful for what FRA has built inside our kids, and we want to help build the FRA community for the next generation of families. The community aspect of FRA is tremendously important to us as a family. Our children are building friendships, becoming confident, and building their lives in a place that is special and unique. Their experience, and our shared experience as a family, has been one that goes far beyond the classroom. Every time we walk onto campus, we definitely feel like we are at home. - Lauren & Matt Philanthropy Report

Capital
C A M PA I G N Dear FRA Community, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our early capital campaign supporters. Your generosity has quickly launched us into the school’s largest capital campaign ever. Your financial support has raised more than $22 million. Franklin Road Academy's capital campaign, A Unique Moment in Time, has enabled a complete renovation of the Scarlett Family Chapel, the addition of the lower school covered portico, and the construction of the Weicker Center for Student Life. These spaces have been transformational in enhancing our student experience. Each is about building community, which has been the hallmark of FRA since its beginning and continues to be today. But what is exciting, is that we are just getting started! Soon, we plan to break ground on a new athletic and wellness center. While we are in the early phase of the capital campaign, meeting one-on-one with potential supporters, you may contact me at any time if you are interested in learning more about these exciting initiatives. With gratitude, Jill Johnson Director of Advancement

T
he decision to support the capital campaign was an easy one. We think it is important the facilities here at Franklin Road Academy reflect the investment we’re making in the students. We also think it is important FRA has the spaces here for the students to learn as the learning environment changes. Having contributed to the capital campaign, that is just our way to ensure our investment in our children is reflected in the facilities. The new Weicker Center for Student Life is the perfect example of that. One of our favorite things about FRA is the fact that it is a Pre-K - 12 campus. It has been great for our family because our daughter, who is considerably younger than her brothers, actually had the chance to go to school for a couple years while Tymon was still on campus. She saw him regularly, and it was just really good that they got to interact despite their difference in age. We know other families appreciate that as well. The Weicker Center contributes to the feeling that we’re are all a part of the FRA family. It creates a gathering place, a meeting point for the FRA family. We had the experience of going to breakfast in the Weicker Center a couple of weeks ago on a Wednesday morning. It was so great to walk in and see other families sitting there having breakfast. It gave us the opportunity to talk to people we haven’t had the chance to connect with including teachers, parents, and students. It felt like a nice family environment. And to us, that is what the Weicker Center represents. There isn’t a time that we walk into the Weicker Center that we don’t go up and introduce ourselves to parents who are sitting having coffee together. Families can come together. Kids can come together. The school can come together.
Our Donor STORY

Pierson '31, Drake '16, and Tymon '19 Drake and Tymon not pictured.
This gathering place also reflects the fact that campuses are changing. During Tymon’s college recruitment process, we visited many different campus facilities for students. The Weicker Center looks just like what we saw at all the college campuses we visited. The learning environment is changing, reflecting the collaborative approach to education. The Weicker Center represents FRA saying, "We’re here for what’s next.'" FRA is more than just a school. It is a place where you feel welcome from the beginning. Our children were embraced, they were encouraged – academically and spiritually. As parents, we felt it was important to support the annual fund and capital campaign because it’s one way, amongst many, to ensure the school is prepared to educate students today and tomorrow. These gifts touch every student, not just your child and not just the current FRA children. - Stephanie & Dale

Grandchildren: Mimi Fuller '23 and Selden Mathews '17
I
n many ways, one lives through their children’s and grandchildren’s successes and failures, the ups and downs of life, and their growth and development. Occasionally, there are true game changers. For our family, Franklin Road Academy has been that jewel. It has given our grandchildren a place to find themselves, to discover hard truths, to be sparked and nurtured, to grow, to serve, and to create new vistas. And, it has shown us community at its best. FRA was not on our radar screen, when our children were young. But, God intervenes in timely and interesting ways. We encountered FRA at a time when the school was reawakening, reinventing itself and our grandchildren needed the right environment. And, for our grandchildren, it was ever so right! It is hard to put into words what it means as a grandparent to see their grandson meet a pottery teacher junior year, who gives him the inspiration he needs to evolve, grow, gain confidence, and shine. Or, to see your granddaughter change her attitude about the school completely, now “her” school, and proudly call it “FRAmily.” We made a leadership gift to FRA’s capital campaign and we choose to support the annual fund each year as well. Why? Because we see a school on a dramatic upward trajectory and ready to change the pecking order of schools in Nashville. It is happening! Take note. It’s an exciting era at FRA led by Sean Casey and a remarkable group of educators. It is the heritage and the culture; it is the inclusive Christian community and spiritual esprit; it is the grounded, loving teachers, who are mentors and feel the calling. It is the service and excellence standard that permeate every classroom and campus activity. Look no further than the “Heart to Heart” program: what a truly special dimension on FRA’s campus. So few independent schools are willing to offer programs for children with Down syndrome. FRA has shown that Heart to Heart teaches as much to our broad student body as it does to the program participants themselves. How all-embracing is that! For us, gifting to FRA has brought tremendous pride and pleasure. FRA today is a magical place. On campus, one feels the electricity, the shared journey, the “uncompromising moral compass” that binds the community. And, graduates! They know! We want to see the school continue to flourish in the decades ahead, and we intend to support the forward vision at every opportunity, within our means. When a school really impacts your family, what better way to show gratitude than to give back to that school. May we all work to ensure that FRA’s unique offering continues to soar. Thank you.

e recently met our three grown children at the new Weicker Center to talk about why we have been so closely tied to FRA for the last 30 years. While we gathered outside to take a photograph, our grandson Beau walked by with his art class. He shouted out to us as the photographer had us lined up for the picture, “Hello, family! I love you!” On the wall in our grandsons’ bedroom is a drawing of an old Land Cruiser their father Jeremy drew in an art class Coach Tucker created for him and one other student in whom he saw a gift and talent. Our son took that talent and developed it into a lifetime of creative development and a building career. Both of our daughters are members of the faculty and staff. Do we need to say more about why we love FRA?
Our Donor STORY
LINDA AND JERE PEWITT
Holly Pewitt Koogler '95, Jeremy Pewitt '97, Cole Koogler '23, and Beau Koogler '24 Sharon Pewitt Crabtree '99, Will Crabtree '27, and Parker Crabtree '30
The school is an extension of our family and has been since 1989, when Linda began teaching second grade at FRA. Thirty years later, members of our family still set foot on campus every day. All three of our children attended FRA. Holly, Jeremy, and Sharon graduated from FRA in the 1990’s. Our oldest daughter, Holly Pewitt Koogler, is the current assistant director of admission and her two sons, Cole and Beau, are high school and middle school students. Our youngest daughter, Sharon Pewitt Crabtree, is a pre-kindergarten teacher and her sons, Will and Parker, are middle school and lower school students. Linda retired from teaching in 2011 but still subs whenever she has the chance. Over the past 30 years, headmasters have changed, and buildings have been torn down, replaced by new buildings, but FRA is still this beacon on The Hill. It’s wonderful how the school remains in touch with what is going on around it, evolving to meet the needs of new families seeking a superb 21st century education while keeping its small community feel. Our contributions to the annual fund and the capital campaign are a way for us to continue this family tradition not only for the next generation of the Pewitt-Koogler-Crabtree family but for every family that calls FRA home. We delight in seeing the 12th grade football player take the hand of a kindergarten student to walk down the hall. We find it hard to express our gratitude to Coach Tucker, who provided a safe place for our children to wrestle with their faith and is doing the same for our grandsons. And we are tickled to come into the Weicker Center and grab a cup of coffee while visiting long-time friends we first met at FRA. Every step of our past leads us to where we are today in some shape or fashion. What a blessing that so many of our steps have been on this campus. - Linda and Jere Pewitt

Stars and Guitars 80s PROM
Funds raised from this annual gala have had a significant impact on our students, faculty, and programs over the years, and this year was no exception. More than 500 parents, alumni, faculty, parents of alumni, and friends attended the event – our largest turnout ever - and collectively we raised more than $350,000 for our school. We could not have done this without you. Proceeds from Stars and Guitars benefit each FRA student every day by providing financial support across campus for our academic programs, the arts, athletics, and so much more. What a great, fun night for Franklin Road Academy! 37 |
