THE CYLINDRICAL
FORMING A PROCEDURE OFFICE FURNITURE SYRACUSE, NY 2012 ACADEMIC W/ JAMES HARRISON
BRIEF The Cylindrical is a prototype that unifies various office functions. It is a piece of furniture born out of a set of procedures. This satirical, rat-wheel for the workplace transforms rigid activities into fun piece of furniture that physically provokes its users, at the same time it transforms to suit their need.
PROCESS The design process proceeded conventionally through sketches, drawings and test models. Cut sheets were used to maximize use of material. Three layers of OSB were offset and laminated to create two structural rungs that held the worksurfaces in place. The rungs and the surfaces were calibrated to resist rotation when in use.
RESPONSIBILITIES The entire process was completely collaborative, from brainstorming, to model-making, material research, transport, drawing and fabrication.
3D modeling: AutoCAD, Rhino, Illustrator, Photoshop, photography, model-making, template-making, woodworking. 7
SITTING In the sitting position, the bulletin board is still accessible. Leg space and head space is generous, allowing for unconfined 180 degree views of the office.
8
RECLINED The reclined position permits comfort for one unit of production. Productivity is increased with sufficient down time.
STANDING POSITION The standing position allows for two users to simultaneously use the structure. This increases the unit of productivity for the structure to two. A bulletin board acts as a privacy seperator.

MOIRÉ PAVILION ARCHITECTURAL FOLLY ANYWHERE 2010 ACADEMIC
BRIEF The ‘Dancing Skins’ Pavilion was born out of the formal analysis of an image. Through a PVC double skin, it creates a moire effect between occupants and their surroundings, encouraging rotation and movement. PROCESS Parametric modeling tools were used to test various iterations of the pavilion. Cinema4D, Rhino, Grasshopper, Photoshop, AutoCAD 15

STRANDED SPOTIFY
SPLITTING THE OFFICE HEADQUARTERS FOR SPOTIFY NEW YORK, NY 2013 ACADEMIC
BRIEF Headquarters are organizational nodes of power, through management. They are best described as a consolidation of energies that function as places of proximal creative cross-contamination. This project sought to spatialize and enhance Spotify’s already unique organizational structure through a tectonic language that codifies
formalities and possible informalities produced by that structure. The spaces sought to catalyze coincidental encounters in order to encourage spontaneous dialogue and idea sharing.
PROCESS The office was treated as a series of modules that unite to form strands. The strands were then seperated to increase privacy while simultaneously allowing sunlight to flood the interiors in accordance with the most desirable views and sun positions.

BLURRY BLOCK
COOOL CONDO LIVING AND COMMERCIAL WINTER PARK, FL 2013 PROFESSIONAL W/ OF POSSIBLE ARCHITECTURES
BRIEF The overall concept for ‘Blurry block’ arose from geological and meteorological locality as the primary design generation tool. Sinkhole formations, were used to conceptualize a pool/ atrium as hearth for each condominium module, simultaneously creating a chimney effect and also decreasing interior temperature through evaporative cooling.
In essence, the interior and exterior were blurred to promote a more environmentally-friendly luxury condominium living experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES Part of a team of three, my responsibilities were varied as we each cycled through iterations. I created code envelope models, site drawings, tests for various plan and sectional configurations, diagrams, renderings, model-making, and the design of fabric-like precast concrete wall panels.
AutoCAD, Rhino, Grasshopper, Photoshop, Illustrator

A SPACE THAT CHANGES FACES HYPER-FLEXIBLE CULTURAL HUB NEW YORK, NY 2013 PROFESSIONAL W/ OF POSSIBLE ARCHITECTURES
BRIEF The Ground/Work Competition selected three young architecture firms for the redesign of the Van Alen Institute, a hundred-year-old architectural institute devoted to improving the public realm. This project was conceptualized as an urban node centered around the most fundamental object for discussion and engagement, the table.
Programatically, the small institute has the ambitions of a large museum. The VAI is constrained by the prohibitory size of their storefront space, this problem centered most design possibilities around strategies of maximal flexibility, transformability and storage.
RESPONSIBILITIES Out of the six people involved in the project, the principal and myself most worked most consistently on the project from beginning to end. I was involved in landmarks research, concept collages and models, taking site measurements, photographs, creating architectural drawings, testing hundreds of plan configurations.
AutoCAD, Rhino, Photoshop, Modelmaking, Illustrator, Photography. 27

RETAIL/LIGHT RAIL WAITING
MOTOR CITY MOVEMENT MIXED-USE TRANSPORT HUB DETROIT, MI 2011 ACADEMIC
BRIEF Detroit is a collage of urban density and expansive fragmentation. This transportation center for high speed rail, light rail, regional and local bus mediates flows, context, public space and program through the fragmentation and objectification of its various activities. Transluscent materials provide various levels of opacity, revealing interior energies and actions directly on its
exterior. Activity becomes facade. The site for the transportation hub was four times larger than the final design shows. The decision to constrain the site allowed for the program to be stacked, promoting an urban vision for Detroit. The project also develops an optimism in Detroit’s future through a skeletal tower. A framework whichthat would be infilled as Detroit grows from its high speed rail activity.
PROCESS Interlocking spaces form a whole that is split by grand access ramps and escalators. Typically interiorized functions are turned outwards in an attempt to help revitalize its immediate context and link the building to a series of cultural activities along Woodward Avenue. The public space provides access to views further downtown.

RASTER NYC BRIEF This platform acts like a radio that picks up on daily Spotify user’s locations and maps them onto a surface causing it to undulate throughout the day depending on the frequencies of use throughout Manhattan. BOSTON BIOCHEM BIOCHEMISTRY LABORATORY BOSTON, MA 2012 ACADEMIC W/ GARY DREXLER
BRIEF This Biomedical lab was a comprehensive project focused on drawing conventions, and technical details. The design compactly situates the lab spaces along vertical rungs of HVAC ducts. These energy intensive spaces feature E and W oriented external mesh
screens and operable windows to manage temperatures within the lab. Atriums climb up the corners of the building forming spaces for collective interaction mediated by their local context to provide expansive views out to the rest of Cambridge and Boston.
RESPONSIBILITIES The entire process relied on close collaboration.

LIFTING BAYVIEW GALLERY/ BUS STOP/ CAFE SAN FRANCISCO, CA 2010 ACADEMIC BUILDING INDIVIDUALLY CHAIR W/ JOE KOH, NICK GECSEDI
BRIEF Chair: The site is indicated in orange. Our intervention arose from a desire to defy gravity. The lifted chair was designed and built by our group. The OSB layers were connected w/threaded rods. Threaded nuts were used to space out the layers of OSB. A variety of jigs were invented and use to expedite the construction process.
Gallery: This project involved aggragating the construction logics of the chair into driving concepts for a building. The strategies extracted from the lifted chair detail applied neatly to the site. Situated on a constrained site between an avenue and a public plaza, these continously lifted platforms were used to elevate the visitor from a cafe, through an art gallery, up to a public roof.
RESPONSIBILITIES The furniture part of the project involved working with other students. Afterwards we broke off to individual and designed the overall building.
