Performance Notes Tuba percussion: Symbols 1, 2, and 3 represent different ways to strike the tuba. 1 = fingernail flick; 2 = knuckle knock; 3 = quick successive tap of all fingernails from pinky to index.
Time-based sections: Systems that begin and end with thin double bar-lines indicate unmetered sections and are improvisatory in nature. In these sections, you will execute the written gestures within the timeframe given (i.e.: the first system of the piece will take place during the first 15 seconds.) Time indicators also act as an aid to ensure synchronicity between the live performer and the fixed media. Ideally, the performer will trigger the fixed media with an on-stage device (laptop, phone, etc.) so that the track's clock is visible to them. If this is not possible, the performer will need to synchronize an on-stage stopwatch with the off-stage playback device. Many of the timings in the score are approximate (-/+ 0.5 seconds), so exact synchronicity is not always necessary. When exact synchronicity is required, there will be a metered element in the fixed media that the performer will be following. At 3:56 and from 5:29 to the end of the piece, there are unmetered melodic gestures. Play the gestures in the order they appear without repeats. The pacing is ad lib, but here are some guidelines regarding rhythm in these sections: -eighth rest = short rest -quarter rest = longer rest -un-stemmed black note head = fast note -quarter note = longer note -half note = longer than quarter note -whole note = longest note If these improvisatory sections are intimidating, regard the un-stemmed black note heads as equal to eighth notes at 84 bpm. From this base, find your own way to move through the written gestures.
Technology required: -Stereo (2.1) playback for fixed media -Playback device for fixed media track -Stopwatch (optional) To receive fixed media track: Email Fnawrot@gmail.com, subject line: Analogy462
