When summer comes around and the Peninsula is bathed in sunshine, everyone heads outdoors. A summer day would not be complete without a trip to one of our many beaches whether you’re after a crystal clear bay beach or one of our wild ocean surf beaches, the choice is yours. Marine adventures are aplenty. You could enjoy a stand up paddle boarding session along the coastline or a once in lifetime experience swimming with dolphins. You might like to enjoy a lazy afternoon imbibing a pale ale or sipping a chardonnay on a visit to one of our beautiful boutique breweries or wineries. Visitors are also spoilt-for4

choice with the wide variety of live summer music concerts and festivals. Rounding out the day might include a night camping under the stars. In autumn the landscape completely changes with brilliant colours on display. The best place to see this natural beauty is on one of the many walking trails or scenic drives we have on offer. Autumn brings us some of the most awe-inspiring sunrises and sunsets. Cooler days bring many visitors out to the autumn festivals and markets around the region. In winter our classic coastal location becomes a quiet oasis. There are fewer visitors, but that means better

deals and still an endless array of indoor and outdoor attractions. We love the slower pace over winter, taking the time to allow our visitors to indulge in cosy fireside dining featuring the best of local fare. Shades of red and brown are in abundance with pinots, single-malt whiskeys, rum and dark ales ready to warm you after a windswept stroll. It’s the perfect time to book a stay in one of our luxury accommodations. You may just find a boutique hotel or villa with a cosy log fire warming up your room. Enjoy a relaxing hot springs experience or pamper yourself with a spa treatment.

A trip on a genuine old-fashioned steam train is also a fun way to spend a Sunday morning or afternoon on the Peninsula. It is small enough so everyone sort of knows somebody that knows somebody, but also big enough if you'd like to get a little lost for the day. My beach babes could spend hours frolicking and catching up with school mates at Mills Beach. We are lucky to have so many beautiful beaches on our doorstep and I cannot imagine a better place to raise my family,” says Melissa.

endota LOCAL, MELANIE GLEESON TOOK A LEAP OF FAITH WHEN SHE WAS 26. SHE WALKED AWAY FROM THE SECURITY OF A FULL-TIME JOB AND STARTED WHAT WE KNOW TODAY AS ENDOTA. Endota, the indigenous word for beautiful, was first opened on the Mornington Peninsula in 2000 and has since grown to be the leading day spa network and wellness provider in Australia. As endota's support centre is located in Moorooduc, we caught up with Melanie. We asked her what she loves about the Mornington Peninsula and share a few of her favourite things. Melanie lives the philosophy that endota is renowned for — healthy mind and body as well as life balance. She is engaging and has a beautiful calming presence no matter how busy her schedule is. "This is such an exciting time for endota spa. We are going through a growth phase and have a number of new initiatives, products, treatments and franchises opening. We’ve just developed our first ever mother and baby organic skincare range - Nurture. We created the range because it’s part of the evolution of the endota woman. She is either going through it, has been through it or knows someone who is, and we need to provide her with products that she can trust through that period of her life."

My belief in the power of nature to heal became our guiding inspiration and is now embodied in our spas, our treatments and our product ranges." Melanie Gleeson, Founder

Maritime environment Being surrounded by three bodies of water makes our maritime environment the primary differentiator of the Mornington Peninsula.

2

Long season With crisp, cool breezes deliver a long growing season which in turn produces truly texturally fine and elegant wines.

Unique Terroir A collection of soil structure profiles and a unique landscape with altitude and diverse topography that has a clear distinction between elevations ‘up the hill down south’ and ‘down the hill up north’. The Mornington Peninsula terroir delivers microclimates with distinct fingerprints of place that gives winemakers opportunities to express themselves and the vineyard's unique style.

Jetty Road Brewery

SERIOUS ABOUT CRAFT BEER, LESS SO ABOUT OURSELVES.

Our story began years ago — on a quiet coastal road not far from where we are now — with nothing but a desire to create quality beer, a taste for adventure and a healthy appreciation of the good life. We’re not really ones for rules but we do have a few guiding principles that were born out of respect for our craft and our community. For one, our aim is to create an educational environment that takes people inside the craft beer experience and makes the enjoyment of a fine ale accessible to all. Then of course there is our love for local harvest, fresh produce and bringing the community together in celebration of the good life. Lastly, we’re very serious about not taking ourselves too seriously — enjoy yourself and drink great tasting high-quality beer. Simple. Now brewing a core range of beers available in most independent cellars, our brewhouse is visible from our family friendly dining hall, where you can enjoy our core range of beers as well as sample specialty beers on rotation. From easy drinking to adventurous on the ale scale, our beers are paired with an approachable modern menu that favours local produce, from the butchers block to the garden. Come and join us on the Jetty, there’s a beer waiting for you. OPENING HOURS

Wed & Thurs: 4 – 9pm, Fri & Sat: 12 – 11pm, Sun: 12 – 9pm (Closed Mon & Tues) 12-14 Brasser Ave, Dromana 3936 T (03) 5987 2754 jettyroad.com.au 50

Behind the Lens S TAY

Photographer, Yanni Dellaportas, has spent his entire life on the Mornington Peninsula. While his face may not be familiar, his images are. His stunning photos grace the glossy covers of Peninsula Essence and Peninsula Kids magazines, as well as accompanying the majority of their articles. He also shoots photos for the Mornington Peninsula News Group newspapers. Over the past few decades, readers have been seeing the Mornington Peninsula through Yanni’s eyes. Ever since he got his first camera in the 1980s, Yanni has been on a mission to showcase the many splendours of the spectacular Mornington Peninsula. While he loves all the seasons and the beauty they offer, he particularly loves capturing winter. “I am more inspired, creative and productive during winter. I love the water, dark clouds, rain and storms. Cape Schanck lighthouse is a favourite during a winter storm. I love Point Nepean as it still has a wild and rugged feel,” he says. Later this year, Yanni will release his second book, Beautiful Storm, featuring an exclusive collection of his breathtaking thunderstorm images. Complementing the images are poems from Mornington Peninsula emerging and established poets. Through images and words, readers will see the captivating art in nature’s fury.

WESTERN PORT

Travel around tree-lined country roads, where wineries, restaurants and art galleries provide plenty of opportunities to linger, or along the coast, admiring the view as you look out for that perfect picnic spot on a white sandy beach. The Mornington Peninsula combines more than 50 cellar doors, craft breweries, spectacular beaches, national parks, laid back seaside villages and a staggering concentration of some of the best eateries in the state. To take it in at a leisurely pace you can cruise along the whole of Port Phillip’s stunning coastline from Frankston to Portsea, or you can bypass the traffic lights and travel directly down Peninsula Link. For those that want to pack in as much as you can — there’s no telling where you could find yourself! Wandering through idyllic coastal and hinterland villages tasting fine cool-climate wines one minute, to eating fantastic food and gathering fresh produce at local farmgates the next. You can dive into thrilling aquatic adventures or uncover your creative side in galleries and parks. COWES Our map shows you just how close things are and the short drive times between diverse experiences.
