MUSHROOM WORKSHOP SATURDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2017 9:30AM CARTHAGE COLISEUM 805 EAST MAIN ST. CARTHAGE, MS 39051

The Leake County Soil and Water Conservation District Shiitake Log Mushroom Workshop will take place in Leake County on October 28, 2017 at the Carthage Coliseum, located at 805 East Main St. Carthage, MS 39051. The workshop will start at 9:30 am and will continue until we complete inoculating the mushroom logs. All participants will learn and practice how to grow Shiitake mushrooms on hardwood logs. If you are planning to attend this hands-on event, please bring 5 hardwood logs cut from healthy Oaks, (Mockernut Hickory, White ash or Sweetgum trees), five days before the workshop day. The size of the logs should be (4” diameter X 40” length). Conifers logs such as pine logs are not good for shiitake mushroom production. This hands-on workshop training will be conducted by Dr. Frank Mrema from Alcorn State University and Ms. Linda Stephen, Winston County Self Help Cooperative (The Mushroom Lady).
