The Wayne County Self Help Organization will host their fall cattle field day on Monday September 29, 4pm at Richard and Ruthie Farm. This farmstead is situated in the tri-corners of Jasper, Clarke and Wayne Counties in the Hamlet of Eucutta, MS. Richard said on “this farm, my parents raised a family of two girls and four boys. We worked as a family unit producing cotton, corn, vegetables, and trees to earn income. My parents exemplified strength and honesty in maintaining this farm. We are thankful for this opportunity to continue my parents’ legacy. Today, we are raising cattle, hay, vegetables and managing forestland”. The Carters are members of Wayne County Self Help Organization which provides services for small farmers. They have received technical assistance to enhance their farm enterprise and other valuable information. The Carters decided to sign-up for conservation practices through NRCS’s (EQIP) Environmental Quality Incentive Program in December 2010. They qualified for numerous practices including heavy use pad, water troughs, cross fence, pasture improvements, and corral.“These practices have added income and reduced input costs in managing our forages and corral provides safety in vaccinating and loading cattle according to Richard.
