On a trip to Tanzania, I had the opportunity to check off one of the items on my bucket list: riding a hot air balloon. Getting up at 4:00 am was not fun, but it was well worth it, as witnessing nature’s beauty when the sun came up was genuinely magical. In this issue of Design Destinations Magazine, we are featuring beautiful images of the exciting Hope Air Balloon ride.

We also feature two beautiful new partners: InterContinental Singapore and Nana Princess Resort on the beautiful island of Crete in Greece. InterContinental Singapore is an iconic hotel featuring delicate decor and fantastic service, and Nana Princess Resort, with its 105 oceanfront suites, and villas, raises the bar in elegance on the Big Island.

We also feature the Holi Festival in India, the indisputably crazy transportation and iconic Tuk Tuk, and the beautiful city of Doha in Qatar.

HOT AIR BALLOONS

EXCITING AND AMAZING

A duck, a sheep, and a rooster were the first passengers of the first hot air balloon launched on September 9, 1783, when the creator, a scientist named Pilatre De Rozier, managed to keep his invention, the 'Aerostat Reveillon' in the air for merely fifteen minutes before crashing back to the ground. Not long after, the Montgolfier brothers used "Montgolfier Gas" to heat the air temperature in the balloon and succeeded in tying their balloon over Paris.

Today, the hot air balloon can be flown almost in every city in the world, making this a fun and exciting way to see magnificent sites like the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, the migration in Tanzania and Kenya, or the famous Cappadocia, in Turkey which may be the most famous hot air balloons as they give the riders a feeling of being in a fairytale with sun setting and the rocks looking like fairy chimneys' with hundreds of colorful balloons dotting the skyline.

TUK TUK Fun and Crazy Transportation

Tuk tuks are the successor to the earlier cycle rickshaws, known in Thai as "Sam Lor" (literally 'three wheels'). Dating back to 1933, Sam Lor were introduced to Thailand. However, they were banned from the main streets due to security reasons. Thailand then imported motorized auto rickshaws from Japan in 1960. The motorcycle, turned into a tiny car, is used as a form of transportation in many cities worldwide. From Bangkok to Delhi to Antigua, this form of transportation is fun and crazy.

HOLI FESTIVAL

A Celebration of Colors

Holi is considered one of India's most revered and celebrated festivals and is celebrated in almost every part of the country. It is also sometimes called the "festival of love,” as, on this day, people unite, forgetting all resentments and bad feelings towards one another. The great Indian festival lasts for a day and a night and starts in the evening of Purnima or the Full Moon Day in the month of Falgun. It is celebrated with the name Holika Dahan or Choti Holi on the first evening of the festival, and the following day is called Holi. In different parts of the country, it is known by other names.

The vibrancy of colors brings positivity into our lives, and Holi, the festival of colors, is a day worth rejoicing. The ritual starts by lighting the bonfire one day before the day of Holi, and this process symbolizes the triumph of good over evil. On the day of Holi, people play with colors with their friends and families, and in the evening, they show love and respect to their close ones with Abeer.

LONGORIA EVA

Eva Longoria is a noted entrepreneur, producer, director, actor and a good person. From Corpus Cristi to Hollywood, where she first appeared in several TV shows before landing a title role in the popular series Desperate Housewives, a part that made her a household name. She simultaneously transitioned to producer and director and received several accolades, including nominations for a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series. She was honored with the Alma Award and was named Entertainer of the Year in 2006. She won a James Beard Foundation Award for producing the documentary Food Chains. Ms. Longoria is a respected entrepreneur and restauranteur. In 2008 she opened Beso in Hollywood in partnership with English Chef Todd English, which later also opened in Las Vegas.

Ms. Longoria founded Eva’s Heroes, a charity that helps young adults with developmental disabilities. She also founded the Eva Longoria Foundation, which aims to close the educational gap plaguing Latinas and confront Latino poverty. In 2009 The Hollywood Reporter named her Philanthropist of the Year for her commitment to Latino causes and giving back to the community.
