FCAC Alumni News A note from the Principal ... Welcome to our new look Alumni News! I invite all past and present College Community members to contribute. All the best, Leisa Harper

Where are they now? James Paussa, Class of 2002 Our son, James Paussa, was a foundation student of Fraser Coast Anglican College. After graduating from FCAC he gained a Bachelor’s degree in IT from the Queensland University of Technology. He and his wife, Emma Greiner, another FCAC student (they were high school sweethearts), now live and work in San Francisco, USA,

where James is a network engineer with Facebook while Emma is a marketing officer for another Silicon Valley company. James always credits former FCAC Principal Mr Graeme Ginn, who also taught IT, for stimulating his interest in the subject. I have attached a photo of James taken when he was in Year 12. The College is keen to strengthen its connection with our alumni and we would love to know how you have been, where you are right now and what you are up. Ella Kleinschmidt, Class of 2013 In the 2 years since I left FCAC my life really went down a road of an adventure. I moved to the other side of the world to swim and study for a university for 9 months of the year and am loving every second of it! I am currently in my sophomore year (second year) at Brenau University in the United States of America studying Early Childhood Education. I am here on a swimming scholarship and am competing for the Brenau University Golden Tigers. I have kept in touch with many of my friends from FCAC. I think that is one of the beauties of being a part of a smaller cohort – knowing everyone so well gave me the opportunity to gain friends that I would keep in contact for years to come! I have also kept in touch with many of my favourite teachers – who I owe a lot of gratitude to for believing in me. To pick just one memory to label ‘the fondest’ from my time at FCAC is near impossible. The longer and harder I think about it – more memories that I had completely forgotten about pop into my head and bring a big smile to my face; sports carnivals, lunchtime shenanigans, war cry madness, orchestra events, school camps, class times, inspirational teachers, the friendships, awards nights, graduation day. To be completely honest, any memory that involves my time at FCAC without a doubt brings a smile to

my face and a twinkle to my eye – I wouldn’t trade my memories from FCAC for the world. In the few years that I have been out of school I feel like I have learnt a great deal. To graduating Year 12 students I would give four pieces of advice: One, to make the most of every second of every day. Cherish the little moments, because when you look back, it’s the little moments that carry the biggest impact. Two, carry kindness wherever you go. It is the language that the deaf can hear and the blind can see. If you carry kindness with you, you will can make a positive difference in the world. Three, have courage and believe in yourself – take all that you have learnt at FCAC - comradery, spirit, sportsmanship, kindness, determination and apply it to everyday life. And four, put the effort into saying in contact with those who were by your side during your school days – you will thank yourself for it. Submitted by Ella Kleinschmidt

Rebecca Shaw, Class of 2009 Rebecca commenced work with Carswell & Co Solicitors in 2010 and while working studied with USQ as an external student. Earlier this year, Rebecca graduated with a Bachelor of Law and was admitted to Court as a Solicitor.

Clayton served on HMAS Newcastle, HMAS Melbourne and HMAS Darwin, was a member of the decommissioning crew of HMAS Torbruk, and is currently with HMAS Success. The Reunion of the Class of 2005 It was with much pleasure that we welcomed back the seniors of 2005 in June to celebrate their 10 year reunion. We commenced the afternoon in the Chapel where 2015 College Captains, Jake Pavey and Alice Leighton welcomed the Alumni students back to the College. It was lovely to hear Alice thank the seniors for their contribution over their time at the College and how their contribution had made the College what it is today. The Alumni students were feeling a little older and wiser when Jake and Alice shared that they had been in Year One when they were last students at the College. A tour around the College where they reminisced over fun times and places that they enjoyed their lunch was included. It was a special moment as they saw teachers arrive who had taught them. Great stories, great speeches and a wonderful evening was had. The seniors from 2005 have achieved much and it was a delight to meet them all.

“Our Story” As part of the 20th Anniversary Celebrations this year, a book has been produced featuring a blend of facts and anecdotal humour encompassing our earliest beginnings to current days. It is designed to not only be factual, but also a light-hearted insight into College life by those who experienced it first-hand. From staff, students and parents, the characters in the book bring our history to life. Only $20 and available from the College 4124 5411.

If you are a past student and are organising a reunion – please let us know so that we can be a part of your special celebration. Email alumni@fcac.qld.edu.au
