FCAC Alumni News A note from the Principal ... Welcome to our latest edition of our Alumni News! The College has had a very productive and enjoyable first semester. We have welcomed new families to our community and their feedback about our community has been very positive. I hope that you enjoy reading what some of our past alumni students have been up too. Please share your adventures, accomplishments and maybe recollections of your favourite times at the College. You can email these through to alumni@fcac.qld.edu.au. Earlier in Term 2, the College paid special tribute to Australia’s Servicemen and women who have served our Country past and present, especially our FCAC Alumni on Anzac Day. Unfortunately our Foundation Day celebrations were washed out with Cyclone Debbie at the end of Term 1, but we are looking forward to the fun of the College Dash and celebrations which have been rescheduled to later this year. The 2007 Graduates are busy planning their 10 year reunion and it is always great to see everyone, I hope to see you then! If you haven’t checked out our Facebook site, please do, as I’m sure you will enjoy our Throwback Thursday and also seeing the great things that the current students are up too. Leisa
Where are they now? Ray Murphy, Class of 2009 Ray Murphy from RE/MAX Real Estate Services is the newly crowned Young Sales Associate of the Year with the win announced at the RE/MAX Australia gala event on 16th February at Brisbane City Hall. “Ray’s progression from property manager at 18 to one of Cairns’ top real estate agents in a few short years is credit to his hard work and dedication,” said RE/MAX Real Estate Services’ broker owner Tony Williamson whose office was In RE/MAX Australia’s Top Five for sales in both number of transactions and commission. “RE/MAX has repeatedly recognised Ray as a top salesperson and auction champion across the Far North and Australia-wide, and it is his exceptional attention to detail, dynamic energy and impressive negotiation skills that sets him apart from his competitors.” Young Sales Associate of the Year was open to agents aged under 30 and who had attained a recognised achievement status within RE/MAX since beginning their career. This year he jumped to Chairman’s Club status, the fourth tier in a series through 100%, Gold, Platinum, Chairman’s, Titan and Diamond Club levels, based on his 2016 sales activity. Mr Murphy’s prowess in auction marketing saw him claim the inaugural RE/MAX Australia Auction Award, given to the sales associate who listed the greatest number of properties for auction in 2016. “My focus is on a whole-of-team approach to auction marketing where sales agents, support staff, finance brokers through to the auctioneer are all involved,” Mr Murphy said. “I have achieved the greatest number of auction listings over the 12 month period by having a great team at RE/MAX Real Estate Services, which is committed to an auction process that achieves great results for our vendors. “It’s absolutely fantastic to be chosen for the Young Sales Associate of the Year award, given such a fine group of professionals across Australia. “I’m incredibly proud to receive the double honour, and am very thankful to the RE/MAX Real Estate Services team,” he said, “and the fantastic work ethic and professional support makes this job the best!” “And the confidence that my customers have in me and in the auction process is fine reward,” added Mr Murphy.
Cassandra Grey, Class of 2013 In September 2016 after completing a clerkship with Fisher Dore, I was invited back to sit in court with them for the Gable Tostee trial. It was such a surreal but amazing experience and the first murder trial I had ever sat in on.

In February I ran orientation sessions for over 100 commencing QUT Law students. It was great to be able to answer their questions and give them tips I wish I had have known. I started my second year of law this year along with a brand new job (my dream job until I graduate) as a law clerk at Fisher Dore. There are no words to describe how excited I was to get the call saying I had a job, without even needing to apply or have an interview! I can't wait to continue my study and work in 2017. Ella Kleinschmidt, Class of 2013 I graduated from FCAC in 2013 and have squeezed a lot of adventure into the short 3 and a 1/2 years since. I am currently 3 years through (a 4 year) Early Childhood Education degree at a college in the USA, where I swim competitively up to a national level for the College. In my 3 years at Brenau University I've placed in the top 10 at nationals (swimming) numerous times (individually and as a team) and have received the NAIA champions of character award twice, I have joined a sorority (Phi Mu), am in the top 10% of the student body academically, have been inducted into multiple American and International Honours Societies, and also just recently received another scholarship award for my senior year from the University for high attainment in academics, leadership and participation. This overseas experience has turned me 'travel/ adventure obsessed' and I try to see as much of the US and world as often as I can. I recently arrived home to Hervey Bay for my College's summer break, detouring through the UK and Ireland for a few weeks of adventure on the way. I'm excited to spend a few months back in the beautiful Bay and then return to the USA for my final year of College before receiving my degree!

The Class of 2006 recently held their 10 year Reunion on a very hot and humid Saturday in mid January. As part of the reunion celebrations, past students were welcomed by the Principal Mrs Leisa Harper and two of our 2017 College Prefects, Liam Bland and Spencer Ambrose, in the College Chapel. Mrs Harper then took the group for a quick tour of the campus before returning to the Coolibah Library to enjoy some light refreshments … and air-conditioning! Mrs Harper was most impressed with the dedication of past student Adam Van Den Born (pictured right) who attended in full day uniform. It was lovely to catch up with everyone and hear about your lives since leaving FCAC.

Orders are currently being taken for this year’s order of Valedictory Way Pavers. You will no doubt recall Valedictory Way, the route that our Year 12 students take as they leave their final Assembly on their last day of school. Past students are able to secure a lasting memory of your time at the College by purchasing a paver that will be placed along Valedictory Way at a cost of only $60. Pavers are approximately 230mm x 114mm in size. To be included in this years order, please contact Tracey Wigmore on 4124 5411 or email twigmore@fcac.qld.edu.au to be sent an order form. Orders close on Friday 15 September to ensure time for the placement of the order, delivery and the laying of the pavers in time for the 2017 Valedictory Day Service.
