What is carbon neutral certification? A carbon neutral building reduces emissions where possible and compensates for the remainder by investing in carbon offset projects to achieve zero carbon. Carbon neutral certification considers your sites’ electricity, water, waste, gas, refrigerant, diesel and transport. Achieving carbon neutral certification provides a meaningful, affordable and tangible way to meet your greenhouse gas emissions goals, and provide your customers with greener products.

National Carbon Offset Standard (NCOS) certification is administered by the Australian Government Department of Environment and Energy. The Carbon Neutral Certification Trade Mark provides a legitimate and visual stamp of achievement, and gives your customers confidence that your carbon neutral claim has met all the requirements of a robust Government Standard.

Who is certified? The National Carbon Offset Standard for Buildings was only launched in October 2018, yet interest from the market has already been strong. The following buildings have achieved certification, with a number of others in the pipeline:

Calculate your carbon emissions Frasers Property will calculate your carbon emissions using Green Star Performance, using your actual data. We’ll work with you to capture any data we don’t already have, such as waste.

Purchase carbon offsets We have relationships with carbon brokers, and can assist you in the process to purchase your carbon offsets.

Prepare public report We’ll complete this report, which communicates your carbon reduction activities and offsetting.

Submission We’ll complete the submission and manage the audit process, through your Green Star Performance rating.

Promotion There are PR opportunities associated with achieving carbon neutrality.

Maintaining certification Certification is an annual process.
