From France… with Live

Opening itself up to the world, creating and motivating long-lasting partnerships or developing a real international solidarity are as many opportunities for Région Centre to assert itself on the international stage. Our regional authority steps in priority areas of decentralized cooperation leaning on its various skills to share its experience with its partner regions, working closely with local actors. These cooperations allow our region to forge strong relationships and to open itself to other cultures. Thus, a fruitful exchange in contemporary and popular music has been established since 2011 with our partners in Tamil Nadu, thanks to Astrolabe, one of the regional popular music scenes and Fraca-Ma, our regional network. These tight bonds take place within the framework of our convention with the Institut Français and give rise to international exchanges of bands and professional meetings which are appropriate to forge, in each country, a network of solid and prolific relationships for these artistic expressions, and all the related fields of activity. Our Indian partners expect a structurated development of these activities in their territory. Our artists and cultural managers are longing to share this great culture and to develop longstanding relationships. Both regions are also attached to promote their artists, to build bridges between popular and contemporary music actors in both countries and to give rise to numerous new artistic and cultural collaborations.

Dear Music Friends, At the French Embassy, we are enthusiastic about bolstering ties and cooperation between French and Indian Music fraternities as well as better connectivity between audiences and artists on both sides. In the context of this expanding market, the Embassy of France in India is promoting a renewed and proactive strategy in this area. This comes in response to the increasing demand of the Indian public on one hand and professionalization of actors on the other hand. More specifically, this implies: • Broadening the scope of our actions by developing partnerships with new private actors to reach a different audience, in addition to the promotion of French artistes in the Alliances Françaises network in India. • Collaborating with the institutional and private events of the country, especially festivals that attract diverse audiences (Delhi International Jazz Festival, NH7 Weekender, Invasion, Jodhpur Riff, etc.), providing greater visibility to French artistes. • Facilitating exchanges and building bridges between French and Indian actors at all levels (programmers, labels, etc.) to expand collaborations by inviting French professionals in India and organizing visits of Indian professionals to music events held in France. In the forthcoming years, the French Embassy will work with Indian labels via social networks and radio, and look for opportunities to support new albums by French artistes in India.

INDIALINKED ? Astrolabe, Emmetrop and Fraca-Ma have been involved in the development of a partnership with Indian professionals since 2010, particularly in Tamil Nadu where three French regions (Centre, Pays-de-la-Loire, Réunion Island) share a common office. Indialinked is the name of the action led in India in december 2013, and made possible thanks to the support of the Region Centre and the Institut Français. This long term lasting collaboration between French and Indian structuring professionals has reached a new level in its possibilities, enabling the building of bridges between professionals in India and France (thus the Indialinked name), as an important number of French delegates are coming this year to the Indian Music Week and the XChange events. These delegates are already active connecting music projects from various regions in the world thanks to their venues, their festivals, their networking tools… We all must consider that the main objective of this long term collaboration is not only to improve partnerships but also to find a way to contribute to economic growth of the independent music industry and live performances in India or in France by developing professional skills, new economic opportunities and diversity of cultural expressions.

We hope that this action will enable a better environment for creativity, cultural empowerment, innovation, professionalization and entrepreneurship in the Indian music and live performance sector, providing experienced and efficient ways to strengthen Indian cultural actors, structure activities, develop employment in India and allowing more exchanges with French/European actors in a more and more globalized environment with very specialized professional networks. What are the French professionals expectations during these events ? • Observe and discover the music professional environment in India. • Understand the structuration of the cultural activities in India. • Develop connexions and networking between professionals in order to produce Indian shows in France. • Promote actions and artists of each region in India. • Collaborate to creations that could associate French or Europeans musicians with Indian ones.

THE BANDS FRENCH COW BOY French Cowboy is like good pizza : no matter the topping - and there’s a fair choice of them -, it’s good. It all began in 1991 with The Little Rabbits, a milestone of French indie rock. Fifteen years and six albums later, the band splitted... to regroup around Federico Pellegrini’s (the leader / songwriter) new project : French Cowboy, and their own label : havalina records. Live, French Cowboy comes in different line ups (hence the pizza). French Cowboy itself, a.k.a. Federico Pellegrini (guitar, vocals), Stéphane Louvain (guitar, vocals), Gaëtan Chataigner (bass, vocals), Eric Pifeteau (drums, vocals). Lonesome French Cowboy, a.k.a. Federico Pellegrini all by himself. French Cowboy trio, a.k.a. Federico Pellegrini, Rubin Steiner and Caroline. French Cowboy & The One started as another live version of French Cowboy. It’s a duet (Federico Pellegrini and drummer Éric Pifeteau) playing some sort of garage disco punk, with a lot of fuzz guitars, drums, loops, claps, delays and voices stacked on one another. The pleasure the musicians (and the audiences !) had with this new thing lead quite naturally to an album, recorded by long time friend Jim Waters in Tucson, AZ and released on april 2013. © Greg Brehin

SUCCESS On the 8th day, considering that it was well deserved, God created SUCCESS. No less. A divine mashup of electro-rock from the best thing he had already begotten: Quite a lot of Stooges, a shot of Run DMC, a finger(well-stretched) of AC/DC and a drop of Kraftwerk. As they needed a shepherd, HE gave them Mister Eleganz, hairy to guide them- him who offers hairs from his Heavenly Chest at the end of every concert. Him and his three apostles: guitar/drums/machines, preached something like 150 celebrations(Marsatac, Rock en Seine, Transmusicales...) all over the world (China, Russia,South-East-Asia...). Their first miracle? «Girl from New Orleans», iconic hit in 2008. Then came the opus « Hard to come Back » which had the honour of appearing next to Mozart and Metallica on the French Original Soundtrack of the heathen blockbuster « Zombieland ». Today at last, the album comes to us. The followers won’t have waited in vain. « Social Network Junkies » is about to become the biggest phenomenon of all times. Mixed in Suffolk, within the Monkey Puzzle Studio, it distinguishes itself with its wealth of styles, his liberated and liberating power, with its enjoyable efficiency and its electro-cut riffs. Its mission: act in an ecumenal way so that peace finally prevails among all the musical chapels. Until where will they go? God only knows. And even then... www.herecomessuccess.org www.sakiforecords.com Contact : sakiforecords@sakifo.com
