What a great journey I have had in Fredericksburg!! What a pleasure it has been to serve this wonderful community for the last 29 years as the Director of the Fredericksburg Parks and Recreation. Effective this August, I will embark upon a new journey, the world of Retirement and I am excited to see what lies ahead. I accepted this position in August of 1986 and only planned to stay for four or five years. But it is a great place to live, I just could not leave. My kids were born here and thrived participating in all kinds of City programs and activities that kept them involved and away from other temptations, a major tenant of what we do. I feel very proud of how the department has progressed with programs and parks to serve you all. But the staff, they are what makes this department all that it is. As I depart, the current staff is very solid and the best collective group ever. I have had Recreation Commissions that have been very plugged in, but the current one is number one. Expect to see some changes after I depart that are specific to their high level of interest and productivity. Everyone in this department is dedicated to the betterment of not just what we do here but as individuals of this community we call home. A big part of the successes we’ve experienced is the relationship of this the community to our department. I have been continually amazed at this community’s dedication to being involved, both in volunteer time and financial contribution. Per capita, it is unparalleled in the state. Collectively, the annual total contribution by our community has averaged $750,000 a year over the last 15 years+. That’s incredible! Bottom line, this involvement has multiplied our ability to facilitate more of those wholesome, exciting programs that keep our kids, as well as other groups, constructively involved. Good bye sports stuff, Dixon Park, JMHS gymnasium, soccer parents, tot programs, City registration lines, and volunteer coaches. Arrivederci to our parks, Dixon pool and the many hot days and lifeguards, Motts Run Park fishing and nature programs with snakes and dead things, City floods, cleanups, and park enhancements. So long elevators, parking garage, construction projects, City Hall, snow removal (Yea), window cleaning, and HVAC automation. See ya holiday specials, kids everywhere laughing and making noise and dutiful parents, First Night, Soap Box Derby and its many ingredients, Christmas Parade, dedication ceremonies, and event planning meetings. Goodbye TEAM!! I will see it all when working my honey –do-list, but mostly the pleasant faces I have encountered in this great community in which I am so happy to live. I will be around! Thank you for a GREAT 29 years Fredericksburg!
Sincerely, Robert Antozzi

10yrs – 18yrs Join the fun at Dixon Pool as we offer a fourweek fun league for Inner Tube Water Polo! Register a team of six (6) or register yourself and we will place you on a team. Inner Tube Water Polo is a variation of the sport water polo with the important difference that players, excluding the goalkeeper, are required to float in inflatable inner tubes. By floating in an inner tube, players experience less contact and expend less energy than traditional water polo players, not having to tread water. This allows casual players to enjoy water polo without undertaking the intense conditioning required for conventional water polo. At the end of the four week league a tournament will be held to crown a Champion! Saturday, 10:15am – 11:15am June 27 – July 25 (NO games, July 4) $15 person (residents/non-residents) Or $75 per team of six (6) (residents/non-res)
