9 TIPS FOR PARENTS ON GAME DAY
1. Wish your player good luck! 2. Let your player know you will be proud of him or her no matter how well he or she plays.
Sports Division: Jillian Franklin, Mike Ward, Bill Mitchell
We are inspiring our athletes, coaches and spectators to see more than wins and losses.
3. Remember that our Parks and Recreation leagues are non-competitive and we are here to see more than just wins and losses today.
4. Let the coaches coach. It is inappropriate for parents to
address playing time, team strategy or play calling with the coach during a game.
5. Encourage your player, teammates and opponents by
cheering for them. Pay attention to the game, but keep perspective! At the end of the day, this game is supposed to be fun and enjoyable.
6. Congratulate your player on a great game — no matter how he or she played.
7. After the game, thank the coaches and the officials for their commitment to our recreation league teams.
8. Resist the urge to immediately critique postgame.
Instead, ask your athlete later about the play and get their thoughts on it. Turn it into a teachable moment to help your athlete grow.
9. Remind your player that you are proud of them!

6 New Sculptures Coming in October!! PUBLIC SCULPTURE PROJECT
The Fredericksburg Arts Commission launched the City of Fredericksburg’s Public Sculpture Program in the fall of 2016. Now in its third year, the City has successfully issued a call for artists and selected 6 new sculptures for roadside display. These sculptures are designed to enhance gateway areas of the City and are displayed at key locations for both vehicle and pedestrian visibility. These artworks provide an unexpected and unique opportunity to view art in our city. These sculptures will be rotated every year and are on “loan” from the 6 artists. Interested in purchasing one of these pieces? Contact info@fredarts.com.
