AT FPRE WE ARE ALL ABOUT PARTNERSHIPS From the Director, Jane Shelhorse
We are all about partnerships! In this issue we are shining the spotlight on the Fredericksburg Police Department. Our department partners with the Police for Midnight Madness and our Safety Town Camp. They also participate in Picnic in the Park, Movies at Hurkamp Park and the City’s Badges for Baseball. Here are just a few of the other ways that they are involved in our community.
Everyone knows police patrol to keep us safe, but did you know about the following services they provide?
DRUG DISPOSAL BOX
VACATION WATCH
Do you have medications you would like properly disposed of? The Police Department can help you with that. Citizens can now safely dispose of unwanted, unused or expired prescription drugs at Fredericksburg Police Headquarters Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The drug disposal box is located in the lobby of Police Headquarters.
CHILD ID KITS
The Police Department offers Emergency Information Card kits to any citizen free of charge. The kit is designed to be a simple tool for teaching children about safety while helping parents and caregivers be prepared should an emergency happen. Each Child ID Kit records medical, identification, and contact information including fingerprint and DNA samples that can be instantly provided to emergency personnel. The kit allows parents and caregivers to have vital information available at all times should their child become lost or injured.
2
Any City resident can request extra patrol for their home or business while they are away. A request can be made anytime by calling the Communications Center at (540) 373-3122. Please be prepared to provide the following information: the property owner’s name, address, departure date, return date, contact person in case of emergency, and if anyone will be stopping in to pick up mail or feed pets.
SAFE EXCHANGE ZONE
Purchasing something from Craigslist or an online yard sale? The public parking lot at Police Headquarters is designated as a safe zone for buying and selling items. The parking lot is under video surveillance, but we still encourage all transactions to be made during daytime hours.
Fredericksburg Police Headquarters is located at 2200 Cowan Boulevard and is open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm with the exception of major national Holidays. Get social with the Police Department on Facebook and Twitter. Twitter.com/FXBGPolice and Facebook.com/FXBGPolice
