FAMILY FUN

SUPER SENIORS FUN AND GAMES

Join us on Tuesdays throughout the winter for some Super Seniors Fun and Games! We will play drive-in bingo, watch movies and play trivia. During drive-in bingo participants will remain in their vehicles while numbers are called through your car radio. Movie and trivia will be held in the auditorium with spaced out seating. Participants are welcome to bring their own chairs for comfort but we will have chairs available too. Seats are very limited indoors due to Governor’s Orders and social distancing requirements. DRIVE-IN FAMILY GAME NIGHTS

Join us every other Wednesday throughout the winter for family game night….drive-in style! We will play Bingo and Trivia for great prizes! The parking lot will open at 6pm. Participants must remain in their vehicles at all times. Games will be played through your car radio. Bingo details: Playing cards will be provided but please bring your own marker. Call BINGO by honking your horn and then turning on flashers. Trivia details: Everyone in one car is one team and questions will range for all age groups. We will use Kahoot to provide an interactive platform for teams. Each team will need at least one cellular device with the ability to download the Kahoot app or visit Kahoot.com to play. CHILDREN’S ART SHOW

Friday-Saturday, March 19-20 Kids 4 years old through 12th grade We want to see YOU and your masterpiece! Exhibition is open to all children 4 years old through 12th grade. There is a $5 entry fee for the first 2 pieces, $5 entry fee for each additional (up to max of 4 artworks per child). Pre-registration required before dropping off art work. DOG EGG HUNT

Come dressed to enter our doggie costume contest to compete for prizes!! Bring your dogs and come join the fun at our annual Dog Easter Egg Hunt. This is a great way to get out and play with your favorite furry friend. Your registration of $5 allows up to two dogs to join in the fun! Dogs must be at least 12 weeks old. A small dog area will also be available for dogs under 15lbs. Pre-registration required. All dog parents must sign release acknowledging their dog(s) are current on shots and are healthy. COOKING FUN WITH S.T.E.M. WORKSHOP

4yrs-8yrs and 9yrs-12yrs S.T.E.M. and cooking? What a great combination! This hands-on cooking workshop will help participants explore, learn, and develop S.T.E.M. skills while also creating delicious and nutritious entrees. A different S.T.E.M. principal will be explored in every workshop. Recipes will be included. All safety protocols will be in place to create a fun-filled and safe experience for our participants. FXBG CITY SCHOOLS FOOD TRUCK

FXBG School Nutrition Services is now serving at Dorothy Hart Community Center. While the Distance Learning program is in place the School Nutrition Department is providing meals at multiple locations throughout the city of Fredericksburg. Meals (Breakfast and Lunch), adhering to the National School Nutrition Guidelines, will be made available to ALL SCHOOL AGED CHILDREN for FREE! Lunch will be served beginning at 12pm on the Charles St entrance in the vestibule area. This entrance is closer to the parking lot of Dorothy Hart Community Center. Walk up the steps and enter the set of doors and grab your lunch from a table in the vestibule and go! Weekdays, 12pm – 1pm unless otherwise noted FREE

HEARTSAVER FIRST AID AND CPR/AED CERTIFICATION

14yrs and older Heartsaver® CPR AED is a classroom, video-based, instructorled course that teaches student critical skills needed to respond to and manage a first aide, choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives. CHILDREN’S SPECIAL INTEREST FXBG STEM CLUB

6yrs-12yrs Fredericksburg STEM Club is an enriching and friendly program. In an informal setting dedicated to empowering young people, this program aims to inspire independent problem solving for our future STEMist. They will be given a chance to explore aspects of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math which will require them to be creative, innovative and think strategically. Session Lab Box themes and descriptions are listed below with the dates. Each class will introduce a different STEM challenge and activities along with the theme Lab Box.

January 13-February 5 Theme: Crystal Gardens- Scientists will create their own hand-grown crystal collection. From salt, snow, and gemstones, scientists will learn the science behind how crystals form and grow. February 10-March 5 Theme: Top Secret Scientist- Get your scientist ready to think like a forensic scientist! They will investigate the science behind solving mysteries with hands-on investigation activities March 10-April 2 Theme: Robots March- Explore physics and engineering concepts by building a simple motorpowered robot. Scientists will use critical thinking to make predictions, form observations and record results. April 7-30 Theme: Clean Water- Scientists can help save the planet and learn the science of cleaning and reusing water. They will build and design a water filtration plant that turns dirty waiting into clean water. May 5-28 Theme: For the Birds- As a young Bird Feeder Engineer you will learn about the types of birds in our local area, their drinking and feeding habits, and what types of bird feeder structures they are most delighted to use while they enjoy their Food, Glorious Food! AFTERNOON DISCOVERIES WITH FAM K-1st Grade

Find Your Crest- Learn about the history and significance of city and family crests. Participants will have a chance to create their own crest that represents their family while drawing inspiration from the Fredericksburg crest in FAM’s collection. Covers Art and Social Studies SOLs. HORSEBACK RIDING LESSONS

Beginner to Beginner Plus / 6yrs and older Our riding program progresses through beginner into beginner plus levels. Basic grooming, handling, safety leads straight into understanding the tack, adjustments & correct riding position & aid applications. Partnership with the horse requires patience and developing an understanding of becoming a fair, gentle leader. A shoe or boot with a heel is the only equipment you need; we provide the rest. VIRTUAL MINECRAFT CODING

7-10 years Explore, create, or survive! Mine deep into the Minecraft world and create your dream world using code! In this creative course, you will challenge the odds, craft your own kinds of weapons, and build dream Minecraft worlds and games using code. You will make use of ready-made coding blocks to create mini versions of Minecraft games and worlds. Students will develop skills in problem-solving and find an outlet for their creativity. By building their own mini-games in Minecraft, each student will gain an understanding of programming within the context of Minecraft coding. Students will learn game design all within the comfort of Minecraft. Your child will learn basic concepts of coding such as loops, variables, conditionals, and more. VIRTUAL ROBLOX CODING

7-10 years Become a Roblox game wiz using Lua! Create versions of your fairytale universe with Roblox. Roblox studio has all the tools to make your wildest gaming imaginations a reality. In this course, you and other passionate kids will learn how to make use of the many tools on Roblox to code terrific games, relaying your imaginative capabilities to the world. By using Lua, you’ll be creating extensions to the Roblox game while fostering your creativity and learning real-world computer coding. Students will learn how to program within Roblox Studio using the LUA programming language. They will learn how to use the Roblox Studio 3D game engine by designing a 3D world, scripting different objects, and by learning the life cycle of game development from planning an idea, designing their game, to having a finished product! All while learning fundamental coding concepts. A PC or a MAC is required, a Chromebook will NOT work for this class. Classes are limited to max 3 students. VIRTUAL DRAG N DROP CODING

7-9 years Love the idea of animations, funny storytelling with characters or making 2 player games to share with friends? Cool! Using drag and drop programming techniques, you’ll get to create fun animations and games. You’ll first learn the basics and afterward, the extent of your creativity can be explored as you come up with and code your own ideas! Your child will learn concepts of problem solving, pattern recognition, design thinking and programming specific concepts such as: creating variables, loops, timers, functions and parallel programming, while creating a pretty neat game or animation. A Chromebook can be used for this class, as can a laptop/desktop PC or Mac. Classes are limited to max 3 students. Thursdays, January 28-March 4, 4pm-5pm $160 per session. LEGO @ HOME: STEM FUNDAMENTALS USING LEGO®

K-1st Grade and 2nd-5th Grade Play-Well classes are going virtual! Tap into your imagination from the comfort of your own home with the guidance of an experienced PlayWell instructor and simple pieces from your own LEGO® collection - all while connecting virtually with your friends and classmates! Students will explore their creative boundaries, learn new building techniques, and connect their projects to practical real-world STEM concepts, all with a focus on open-ended builds that do not require special LEGO® pieces. Required Materials: Zoom compatible device and assorted LEGO® pieces from participant’s own collection; no unique part requirements. CHILDREN’S & ADULT SPECIAL INTEREST LEGO @ HOME: JEDI ADVENTURES

K-1st Grade and 2nd-5th Grade Complete the next phase of your Jedi training as Play-Well classes go virtual! Learn new building techniques and build engineer-designed projects inspired by the Star Wars universe with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor. Encounter practical real-world STEM concepts while learning from and connecting virtually with other young Jedi engineers. The program will take place over Zoom, and with the specialized kit of LEGO® materials that is included in the cost of the program, kids will have everything they need to take their LEGO® building at home to the next level and defeat the Empire once and for all! Required Materials: Zoom compatible device and assorted LEGO® pieces from participant’s own collection; no unique part requirements. WOODPECKER WALK

5 years and up The winter woods are a great place to look for our resident woodpeckers. Join a naturalist as we study the different local woodpecker species, learn their calls, and go on a hike to find some. Pre-registration is required. All children must attend with a paying adult. WINTER WONDERS

POCKET POP UP PROGRAM

All Ages Come out to meet and greet with Pocket, our resident corn snake. Pocket and a naturalist will be at Alum Spring Park from 2-4 p.m. Stop by when you can to learn about, touch, and maybe even hold this sweet reptile. This free program is come and go, so stop by anytime from 2-4 p.m. No registration required. Please wear a mask. Location: Alum Spring Park Shelter Friday, March 26 at 2-4pm

AFTERSCHOOL NATURE CLUB

5-11 years Let’s have some fun in Nature! We’ll meet one Thursday a month from February-May. Each date will feature a different topic so be sure to catch them all. Wear appropriate outdoor clothing and bring a reusable water bottle (labeled). No non-registered siblings please. Pre-registration is required for this program. Location: Motts Run Reservoir. Thursdays, 4:30pm – 6:00 pm February 18 – Nature Art March 18 – Birding Basics April 22 – Happy Earth-Day! May 20 – Dipnetting for Dragonflies $10/session or $35/series (all four sessions). DOG CPR AND RESCUE BREATHS

14 years and up PetPro CPR and First Aid is a classroom, video based, instructor led course that teaches the basics of Dog CPR and Rescue Breaths. Recognizing the signs of cardiopulmonary arrest, hand placement and how to give effective rescue breaths. Pre-registration is required. Instructor: Sonja Johnson. HIKE WITH YOUR HOUND

All Ages Take a walk in the woods with your pup! Join a naturalist at Motts Run Reservoir as we take a hike. We will appreciate the beauty of the winter woods as we hike and a naturalist will be able to point out interesting things along the way. Bring along your dog for the fun. All dogs must be on a leash (6ft or less) throughout the program and be able to play well with others. All children must be accompanied by a paying adult. Wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. EXPLORE THE ‘POSSUM’BILITIES

All ages Come out and meet animal ambassadors from Awesome ‘Possumz! Awesome ‘Possumz uses live opossums to educate the public about the only native marsupial in the United States. Take this opportunity to learn more about these cool creatures, their adaptations, and the impact they have on our environment. Groups can come out once a month to one of our parks for nature education, activities, and fun. EARTHQUEST PROGRAMS: WALK WITH A HAWK

All Ages Earthquest will be offering some amazing experiences to learn about Birds of Prey. On our Walk with a Hawk, we will take a hike through the woods while one of our educators teaches you about Hawks and what makes them so special. During our walk, our Flighted, Non-Releasable Harris’s Hawk will follow us through the woods in the trees. Participants are encouraged to take pictures and ask questions throughout the program. Pre-registration is required. All children must be accompanied by a paying adult. Location: Motts Run Reservoir. Sunday, January 10 at 4pm-5pm $25/person, kids under 12 are free.

RAPTOR ENCOUNTER

All Ages Want to learn more about birds of prey and meet a few? Join the team from Earthquest at Motts Run Reservoir for a Raptor Encounter where you will have the chance to meet a few different birds of prey and learn about their many adaptations. All Ages Owls are some of the most amazing creatures. Join the team from Earthquest as you discover all about their adaptations, dig into some owl pellets, and meet a few of these winged animals. HIP HOP CHEER AND DANCE CLASS

7 – 10yrs This program focuses on fun cheers and modern hip hop movements with a vivacious urban feel. Participants will focus on rhythm and musicality, how to “find,” count music and dance with a team. Different styles of hip hop dance will be combined with fun choreography. For cheer, participants will be taught various dance and cheer combinations, basic stunts, and fun choreography. Along with these skills, participants will build teamwork, confidence and leadership skills. YOUTH SPORTS “QUICK STICKS” FIELD HOCKEY Nothing is more satisfying than whacking a small ball, with a field hockey stick. But field hockey lets you dribble that ball, flick it, roll it, slide it around and in between people’s legs, glide it, pass it, and much more. Field hockey is a team sport that is becoming more popular every year. Give it a try, and you will surely become hooked! Grab your stick and be sure to register. Practices are either Mondays & Wednesdays, or Tuesday & Thursdays. Games are during the week and on Saturdays. All practices and games will be play at Dixon Park. The age determination date will be May 15th, 2021. Registration beings February 1 for City residents and February 15 for Non-City Residents. ADULT GROUP FITNESS

18yrs and above Group Fitness is a great way to stay active and meet like-minded individuals. All fitness levels are encouraged to join. Each time you attend a class, it is one punch. Attend any class during the week with this monthly pass.

Monday: Early Morning Sculpt and Tone, 8:10am - 9:00am. This class includes a varsity of exercises to strengthen, tone and keep you flexible. Core condition floor work will also be part of the class. Tuesday: Gentle Yoga, 8:30am - 9:30am. Stretch, strengthen, breathe and relax with this restorative class. Work at your individual level as the instructor guides you through a series of standing, seated, and lying postures. Appropriate for those new to Yoga and those familiar with traditional poses. Wednesday: Early Morning Sculpt and Tone, 8:10am - 9:00am. This class includes a varsity of exercises to strengthen, tone and keep you flexible. Core condition floor work will also be part of the class. Thursday: Weights and Cardio Mix, 8:30am - 9:30am. Weights and cardio together? Why not! This class will combine strength training and cardiovascular training into one class. Build your endurance and increase your strength during this class. Friday: Pilates for the beginner to intermediate levels, 11:30am - 12:20pm. Pilates is for ages and abilities! Class will focus on activating deep muscles while helping tone, streamline and improve your posture through the emphasis on body conditioning, core muscles training and flexibility. Bring your own mat and set of weights, or two if you want! Bring your own towel, water bottle, and wear comfortable clothing. Masks will be required when physical distancing is unable to be obtained. Class will be held in the auditorium. Participants will enter and exit the auditorium via the Charles St. door. DISCOVER A NEW WALKING TRAIL THIS WINTER

There is a new way to get in shape this year in Fredericksburg, and best of all its free! Discover the outdoor fitness trail at Dixon Park (1300 Dixon Street, Fredericksburg, VA). The ten interactive stations include a balance walk, side bend, body raise, leg stretch, hamstring stretch, pull up bar, calf stretch, tension release, sit up bench, and hamstring pull bench. Visitors will find these new fitness stations along the 0.56 mile asphalt looped path inside the park. The trail is ADA accessible and is open to the public for all users. The fitness trail kit was manufactured by Fit Trail, and has features that will work all five areas of fitness through an individual’s muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, cardiovascular endurance, and body composition. The equipment is simple, and uses a person’s body weight for resistance. There is signage at the beginning and end of the trail, as well at each station with instructions on how to use the trail. A great way to give your body an overall workout without joining a gym!

PICKLEBALL COURTS

The City’s pickleball courts are located in Memorial Park (Kenmore) on the corner of Kenmore Avenue and Mary Ball Street at 1401 Kenmore Ave. Park hours: 6am-10pm daily. The courts are a non-membership public facility. This means they are open for individual public play unless officially reserved through the Parks and Recreation office. Player groups that meet at the courts must share the courts with other players who wish to play their own games.

WAITING LIST

A wait list will be created when a program has reached its maximum participant capacity. All in-person and mail-in registrants will be put on the waiting list unless otherwise requested. If a space becomes available and a person’s waiting list status changes, you will be contacted by the department. Waiting lists do not roll over from previous, different sessions. Please plan to register for activities as early as possible. Many activities fill up quickly.

CANCELLATIONS

Our Parks, Recreation and Events Department cancels sports practices and games. Any time the City schools are closed because of inclement weather, our programs are cancelled. All programs held at city schools are cancelled when there is a City school holiday. REFUND POLICY

• Individuals wishing to withdraw and/or requesting a refund must do so by contacting the Fredericksburg Parks, Recreation and Events Department by phone, fax, mail or in person. • Individuals must follow up their verbal cancellation request with a written refund request and submit it to FPRE prior to cancellation deadlines. • It is the participant’s responsibility to verify receipt of refund requests. • A 10% administrative fee will be charged on all refund requests for cancellations received less than 2 weeks before program start date, unless otherwise specified. • There will be no refunds given to those who withdraw after program start date. • Refunds will require 4 weeks for processing unless paid by credit card. Credit card refunds will take 5 business days to process. • If the department cancels a program or trip, the money will be refunded. • Classes: Students must cancel 24 hours before the 1st class to be eligible for refund. No refunds will be given after the first class. • Trips: Registrants who cancel on or before the posted cancellation date shall receive a full refund. After that date, money will be refunded ONLY if the slot is filled by another participant. • Sports: No refunds will be made after the 1st game. • Camps: Cancellation requests less than two weeks (14 days) before camp start date are eligible for a 50% refund. And there are no refunds on cancellations less than 7 days before program start date. • Changes to these policies will be posted online and at the Community Center.

The Canal Path is a paved pathway that is 1.8 miles long and winds along the canal from Fall Hill Avenue to Princess Anne Street. The Rappahannock River Heritage Trail is a 1.6 mile asphalt stretch that connects the two parts of the Canal Path, making a 3.1 mile loop, just about right for a 5K charity walk. Great for walkers and bike riders of all ages. Trails are open all day, year round.

City Dock

Located at 207 Sophia Street at the end of the street, just past the railroad tracks. This historic dock dates back to George Washington’s day. Public fishing is permitted 24 hours a day, seven days a week. City Dock is open all day, year round. City Dock may be closed during inclement weather or due to conditions considered hazardous to the public’s safety. Please sign up for Fredericksburg Alerts at www. Fredericksburgalert.com. Cobblestone Park

Located at the intersection of Willis Street and Cobblestone Boulevard, this ten acre, wooded park features a one-mile looped trail and views of Hazel Run. The park is open year round from 5am to 10pm daily.

Located at 1300 Dixon Street (near Rt. 2 & 17 across from Mayfield subdivision). This outdoor facility is 46 acres and features athletic fields, including a free play field for community use, an outdoor swimming pool, playground equipment, 1.5 miles of trails, restrooms, an outdoor roller hockey rink and nature preserve areas. The Jogging/ Walking Trail is a paved pathway that begins at the kiosk, and is marked to help you track your distance. Dixon Park is located at 1300 Dixon Street, which is on Route 2 and 17 across from Mayfield subdivision. Doris E. Buffett Swimming Pool

Located at 1300 Dixon Street (near Route 2 & 17 across from Mayfield subdivision). The Outdoor Swimming Pool has a great slide, fun water features for the little ones and a zero-depth entry area for easy access. Open Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Fall Hill Trail

This urban paved pathway offers walkers and bicyclists 1.39 miles of a convenient route along Fall Hill Avenue from the Canal to Gordon W. Shelton Boulevard. Trails are open all day, year round.

Fredericksburg Dog Park

Located at 1601 Kenmore Avenue (near Mary Ball St.). This is a special fenced-in area available to city residents and their pets only. This dog park is self-monitored by its users and is designed for dogs 4 months and older. Open daily, closed dusk to dawn. The off-leash area is surrounded by a six foot fence. Water is provided for pets only. City residents who wish to use this facility need to have their dog tags, which are available at City Hall.

ALUM SPRING PLAYGROUND

Cossey Park

Located at Littlepage Street and Grove Avenue at 1601 Kenmore Avenue. The Cossey Park is a neighborhood park that features winding trails, a small fishing pond, open space, a community garden, and botanical garden used for educational sessions sponsored by the Virginia Cooperative Extension service. Open 6am1pm, year round.

Fredericksburg Roller Hockey Rink

Located in Dixon Park, 1300 Dixon Street. This newly constructed outdoor roller hockey rink includes a custom Riley Manufactured board system and a NOVA Play II flooring surface featuring the Capitals logo. The rink also features a Daktronics scoreboard with the Capitals logo. The rink has been built as a partnership between the Washington Capitals and the City of Fredericksburg, with generous support from the new Fredanthropist program and the Fredericksburg Youth Roller Hockey organization. Hurkamp Park

Located at 500 William Street at the corner of William Street & Prince Edward Street or George Street & Prince Edward Street. A historic downtown park with a fountain, brick sidewalks, benches and plenty of space for a picnic. Home to the Fredericksburg Farmers Market which is open year-around.

Motts Run Reservoir Recreation Area

Located at 6600 River Road. This lovely oasis within easy reach of town provides a multitude of recreational opportunities. The 860acre natural area, including the 160-acre reservoir, is a haven for fishing, canoeing, hiking, and picnicking. It also serves the residents of Fredericksburg and parts of Spotsylvania County with drinking water. The park features an orienteering course, nature center (open weekend afternoons only), over 4 miles of hiking trails, picnic tables and grills, and jon boat, canoe, and kayak rentals. Boats are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis at the reservoir. If you need a large number of boats with your rental, please indicate how many but these must be rented in person as available. No swimming, horseback riding, or all-terrain vehicles permitted. Mountain biking is allowed only on designated trails.

Hurkamp Park is open to the public and available for rentals, except during Farmers Market hours. For more information on renting the park, call the Parks, Recreation & Events office 540-372-1086 ext. 0.

When fishing, you may bring your own boat (ELECTRIC MOTORS ONLY) to launch on the lake, or fish from the banks. Handicap fishing pier available. A fee is charged for fishing and boat launching area. Valid fishing license required. Bait available for purchase.

Maury Playground

Summer Hours: Thursdays – Mondays, April 1 - October 31 from 7:00am - 7:00pm; the Reservoir is CLOSED on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (weather & water conditions permitting). If the weather is questionable, call before coming, (540) 786-8989. As a cost saving measure, when the weather is bad we reserve the right to close the reservoir early.

Memorial Park

CLOSED in Winter Hours, November 1 - March 31.

Located at 901 Kenmore Ave. at the corner of William Street and Kenmore Avenue. This open play area features a basketball court lit from dusk - 10pm, year round, as well as playground equipment. The park is open 5am-10pm daily.

Memorial Recreation Park (also known as Kenmore) is located on the corner of Kenmore Avenue and Mary Ball Street at 1401 Kenmore Ave. The park is equipped with 7 tennis courts, 6 of which are lit from dusk-10pm, year around. The park also features 4 new pickleball courts at the park giving players 5 dedicated courts from which to choose. Additionally, the park has a basketball hoop, tennis practice wall, open play area, children’s play equipment, and a toddler play area. Park hours: 6am-10pm daily. Pickleball Courts - Keep in mind the pickleball courts in Memorial Park are a non-membership public facility. This means they are open for individual public play unless officially reserved through the Parks and Recreation office. Player groups that meet at the courts must share the courts with other players who wish to play their own games.

Motts Run Nature Center Open Saturday and Sundays, April-October, Noon-5:00pm

Manned by volunteers, this beautiful one-room log cabin features handson nature displays, our resident snake, “Pocket,” and information that the whole family will enjoy. Looking for a fun family day? Visit our Nature Center and then head off on one of the hiking trails or grab a picnic table for your family lunch.

VCR TRAIL Powhatan Park

Located at 1521 Powhatan Street at the intersection of Cowan Boulevard and Powhatan Street. A little less than an acre, this park has a playground, benches & open space. It’s the perfect spot for a an outdoor birthday party rental. Open 5am to 10pm daily.

Old Mill Park

Located at 2201 Caroline Street. Our most popular park, Old Mill features soccer fields, picnic shelters, a playground, restrooms and river front views. This park is situated along the Rappahannock River with a canoe/kayak boat launch. The Rappahannock River Heritage Trail passes directly by Old Mill Park and is a popular spot for walkers to access the trail. Old Mill is a perfect rental location for your next event! Rappahannock River Heritage Trail

A 1.6 mile asphalt stretch that connects the two parts of the Canal Path making a 3.4 mile loop, just about right for a 5K charity walk. The trail, which is 10 feet wide, begins near the intersection of Princess Anne and Ford streets at one end of the Rappahannock Canal. Beautiful views of the Rappahannock River, Old Mill Park and several historic mills are seen throughout the trail. The river overlook along Riverside Drive should not be missed. Great for walkers and bike riders of all ages. Open all day, year round.

Riverfront Park

Located at 713 Sophia Street on the beautiful Rappahannock River, in the 500-700 blocks of Sophia Street. The park is under renovation and not currently available for rent.

Snowden Park

Snowden Park is located on Fall Hill Avenue. The park features basketball courts, playground equipment and a baseball field, with easy access to paved walking trails. Open daily 5am - 10pm.

Virginia Central Railway Trail

The 2.7 mile trail for pedestrians, bicyclists and runners Virginia Central Railway (VCR) Trail. This ten foot wide asphalt trail extends from the eastern end of the Cobblestone development off Lafayette Boulevard out Lafayette Boulevard and across the Blue and Gray Parkway, then through Alum Spring Park and across Jefferson Davis Highway (Route 1) to a point near the Idlewild neighborhood, just east of I-95. Scenic views of Hazel Run and the historic Virginia Central Railway trail bed are visible throughout the trail. Open all day, year round.

W. L. Harris Playground

Located in the community of Mayfield, this park has a covered shelter, playground equipment, and a basketball court lit from dusk to 10pm. Park is open daily from 6am to 10pm.

Walker-Grant Center

Located at 200 Gunnery Road. The facility is operated and maintained by city schools. It has open playing fields, basketball court lit from dusk - 10 pm year around and a children’s play area. Park is open dusk to dawn daily.

The City of Fredericksburg installs an annual display of road side sculptures in the City’s Public Sculpture Project. These sculptures are on loan from the artists for a year at a time. They are designed to enhance gateway areas of the City and are displayed at key locations for both vehicle and pedestrian visibility. Come dressed for the weather and bring drinking water. Children must be supervised by an accompanying adult. Teen and adults, bring your group of friends and we’ll schedule you for an adults-only match too!

Admission: Pre- registration is required, registration opens January 1st & closes January 25th $3 per person or $6 for 2 people Matches are approximately every 15 minutes. Signed waivers are required to play. Due to COVID protocals mask & gloves will be required to wear the entire event.
