Imagine, you’re standing in the middle of an untouched powder-kissed paradise; you click in to your bindings, take a deep breath of pure mountain air and contemplate the majesty of your surroundings. You push off and glide into exhilaration. Powder flies, adrenaline pumps and you soon become a tiny figure amongst the immense silence of the mountain world. At the bottom the helicopter awaits to lift you effortlessly to the top of another peak. Your guide will lead you to the day’s best snow conditions. At lunchtime indulge in a gourmet picnic with an unbeatable view then it’s time to do it all again. SIMPLE ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS How well do I have to ski to go Heli-skiing? Ideally you are a strong intermediate skier/boarder or better, with a sense of adventure. Harris Mountains Heli-Ski has exclusive access to extensive terrain including easy rolling terrain for powder first timers, wide open bowls and challenging chutes with steep valleys for the more experienced. You’ll be part of a group of four led by a guide who is committed to your safety and enjoyment of this alpine environment. Ask Ski Express for our Ability Questionnaire to help establish your ability and the best group for you. How does the Heli-ski day work? After an early morning weather check, we collect you from your accom & take you to the staging area. Start with a safety briefing covering avalanche transceivers, helicopter and mountain safety, before flying off to the first heli-ski run. All groups meet for a alpine buffet lunch with time to relax. The afternoon is back to the ultimate - more heli-ski runs. Do I need powder skis? No but the new wide body powder skis will assist you to ski even better, we can recommend a variety of hire equipment retailers. How long are the runs? Run length varies depending on the terrain and snow conditions. Our exclusive terrain offers runs that vary between 2000 and 2500 vertical feet of treeless skiing in sheltered basins, bowls and wide rolling mountain flanks through to steep and gnarly chutes. What do I need to bring? You will need to bring your skis/board or hire equipment & warm clothing - a windproof jacket and pants, warm gloves, sunglasses or goggles and sunscreen. The day is spectacular, so bring a camera to capture your heli-ski day.
What’s included in the Heli-ski day? • Fully qualified Guide (guide to guest ratio 1:4/5 skiers/boarders) • All Guides UIAGM and NZMGA certified and/or specialists in mountain safety • Alpine buffet lunch • Use of transceivers • All transfers from accommodation to heli-staging areas and return • Pick up and drop off of your rental equipment How does the weather affect Heli-skiing? If adverse weather prevents flying, clients will receive a full refund. If some heli-skiing is possible but less than the guaranteed vertical, they will refund NZ$100 per run. Note: Refunds are not given due to lack of ability, lack of fitness or injury.
