Mozilla Firefox Mozilla Firefox has seen better times, but it is still one of the best, if not the best, browser for web developers. For one, this is because of how it is trying to stay as open as possible, which attracts a lot of attention and positive feedback from the community. What is even more important, however, is the amazing variety of high-quality add-ons, which make web development so much easier.

If you’re a web developer who isn’t using Firefox, you should definitely try it and if you are, maybe this list will help you extend the amount of current add-ons and push your Firefox browser to the limit. Here are our 8 essential Firefox add-ons for web developers: Š freelancermap.com

1) Firebug Definitely the number one and most important add-on to get when using Firefox for web development. Firebug just offers so much that you cannot ignore it. Editing, debugging and monitoring CSS, HTML and JavaScript on the go and many more extras that could take up a whole article by themselves make this add-on a must-have.

2) Web Developer When used in combination with Firebug, Web Developer will give you an incredible amount of functionality and control over your code. Validating and analyzing your web pages, and even optimizing them will be a breeze once you get the hang of those two. You can even edit CSS and change backgrounds, fonts, borders and much more on the go with the changes going instantly into effect.

3) FireFTP Third place goes to FireFTP, an add-on that allows you to transfer files within your browser to and from your server. While this is already enough to guarantee a place in our list, FireFTP has a ton of other very useful functionalities as well. Synchronizing directories, running integrity checks and a remote editing tool are just some of those extras.

4) Yslow A fast webpage is a good webpage. And while everyone tries to optimize and test their page in order to be as efficient as possible, Yslow is an add-on that does it automatically for you. It does so using three predefined rule sets, but also offers room for customization by adding additional user developed rule sets. Not only does it identify the problems your page might be having, it also offers you different tools and ways that can solve them. Especially now that Google counts the speed of a page as a ranking factor, Yslow definitely deserves a place in the top 5.

5) Fireshot Fireshot is extremely useful as well, it allows you to capture the whole page, not just the visible area. You can then add arrows, text, graphics or anything you want, really, and save the file in a variety of image formats. It’s a very easy way to work on resizing and cropping your creation or even sharing it with others.

6) Flagfox Flagfox is more than it appears to be. At a first glance it only displays a flag on each website you visit, allowing you to see where it is hosted. However, clicking on that flag provides you with tons of options that allow you to completely analyze the site. These include ping, whois, virus scan, translating and many more. Essentially it gives you a lot of information about a website very quickly.

7) Ghostery In light of recent and not-so-recent events, privacy has to be recognized as a really huge and important issue. Ghostery is an add-on that allows you to keep third party websites in check, showing you just who is collecting data about you and allowing you to prevent them from doing so.
