Trust your designer! Trust your designer! An interview with Robert Evans passionate graphic and web designer with over ten years of experience in the freelancing business. Let’s find out why Mr. Evans became a freelance designer, where he acquires projects and clients and what he recommends other freelancers in the design business.

Robert Evans 1) Firstly, can you tell us bit about yourself! My name is Robert Evans and I have been doing graphic and web design for over ten years in the San Francisco Bay and Sacramento Area regions. I truly love its roller coaster ride, presents so many challenges, but completely rewarding.

Robert Evans 2) If you would search for your profile on Google, which are the three keywords you would type in the search bar? Graphic/Web Designer, Technology Explorer, A.D.D. Nerd

Robert Evans 3) What was your inspiration and when did you actually decide to become a freelancer? My inspiration is the challenge that design presents. It’s never easy, there is never an “A to B” answer and you deal with clients that require you to be a psychologist. Design is very in depth, a lot of meaning and because of the aforementioned, that’s the true challenge that allows me to be successful for all my clients.

Robert Evans 4) What kind of services have your clients asked you to provide? I kept being recommended by friends, family and coworkers to others that needed a designer. I was working a full-time position at a magazine company, but then had so many clients that I couldn’t do both at the same time. That’s when I launch Tresna Designs full-time and solely out of my home office. From there, I was doing print design, logo design, magazine layout, direct mail, advertisements, website, microsite, user interface design and corporate branding strategies.

Robert Evans 5) Do you use other freelancers or companies to provide skills that you don’t possess? Sometimes when the budget permits. I only hire others when I feel that it makes financial sense for better project management.

Robert Evans 6) Now tell us, how do you find new clients that are interested in your services? Almost most of my business is word of mouth and existing longterm clients. Otherwise I use online freelance sites to find new business.

Robert Evans 7) What about freelancermap.com? Can you tell us a little bit about your experience with our IT-network? It's really easy to navigate and gives me the chance to explore serious overseas clients that need design work.

Robert Evans 8) How do you set yourself apart from your competitors? What makes you special? I try to provide my clients with outside the box design for their industry. I like to also tie in newest tech trends to extend the end users experience.

Robert Evans 9) What are the top three books, blogs or magazines you read to stay up to date in the IT-market? bgr.com, allthingsd.com, dzineblog.com. Archive magazine is by far my favorite to read and just be inspired by what other amazing designers are doing in the world.

Robert Evans 10) Freestyle! Is there anything you would like to tell our readers? Trust your designer! A good designer knows their stuff and has been doing this for a long time. Check their portfolio and if you like what you see, trust them to give you a remarkable campaign, design, site.
