Intro I am going to give you a step by step plan and teach you how to become a rapper in the next few paragraphs. The music industry has changed in a major way due to the Internet, especially the rap or hip hop industry. The value of a song has dropped significantly. In the past rappers did not have to release much music each year at all. All music was released commercially in the form of albums where the fans must pay around fifteen dollars for around fifteen songs pressed on a cd with cover art and a tracklist. Once the Internet took over the music industry and people started illegally downloading music for free, rap or hip hop artists needed to use this to their advantage while at the same time finding a way to make a living creating music, and that brings us to our first lesson on how to become a rapper. Mixtapes Mixtapes are compilations of hip hop music that are usually given away free for promotion. Today, as a rapper, you must first prove yourself before a fan even considers purchasing any music from the artist. These mixtapes first were very low quality and were comprised mostly of MCs rapping over other people’s instrumentals with no full song quality. In time these mixtapes have actually shifted into full albums given away for free with all new beats, music videos, and features. This is great news for fans but not so great for rappers. Some rappers have a huge buzz surrounding them and have never even released an album or sold a song. After 4 mixtapes young MC, Mac Miller, was already touring Visit us at http:mixtapeplanet.com

around the United States and charging over $20,000 a show. He referred to some of his mixtapes as fralbums as they really were free albums. This is the first step on how to become a rapper. Create a mixtape. If you can afford to purchase beats then you should. If you can’t then you should download beats used by other MCs and rap over them and label those songs as “freestyles.” You can lease beats here for very cheap for your mixtape, click here. Or you can make your own beats (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) which is easier than ever these days. To get the cheapest/most professional software on the market click here.

Promotion Yes, there is a ton of promo stuff you can do offline and I could probably write an entire offline section teaching you how to become a rapper, but the easiest and proven formula is to promote yourself where people are going to find music, The Internet. If you are a good MC and have good Internet marketing skills you really have a chance to make money in this industry independently, because record deals are dead. Social media will be the main outlet for you if you are serious about becoming a rapper. Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube need to be your best friends. Create a Facebook fan page, and Twitter account, and a Youtube channel. Buy a cheap Flip camera and film everything. Film yourself writing lyrics, film yourself recording, film yourself partying, film yourself BSing with your friends, etc. Edit the video and put a watermark (some text on the video) telling the viewer to subscribe to your Youtube and check out the description below. In the description put a link to your website (tell you more about this later), Twitter, and Facebook. Upload tons of pics to your Facebook and Twitter and make sure you are always active on there with at least 5 status updates a day. Link them together to make it easy on yourself. Promote and submit your mixtape(s) on free mixtape downloads websites such as http://mixtapeplanet.com. Comment on other mixtapes and link to where they can download yours. Website Go to blogger.com and create a free blog. Title your blog with your artist name. Now you must go to godaddy.com and get the exact domain name for your artist name too. You will for sure want to have this for when you blow up and start teaching others how to become a rapper. Plus, you can make that domain name transfer to your free blog so when you post the link you can post a professional link without the blogger.com name in the link too. Take some time and create a professional website and upload videos and music on there too. If you need a tutorial on how to edit your blog just Google or Youtube it and you’ll find some info. Forums This is the final step to teach you how to become a rapper. Be active on hip hop forums. Contribute to the discussion and in the signature of your posts put a link to your website and your social media links. The more posts you put the more traffic you get to your site. Although I didn’t write too much in this step this is one of the most important parts on how to become a rapper.
